Kelly, In order for the sent message to appear in the list of sent messages you have to check a little box above the message to save in sent messages. I have your message with phone number. I responded with a request to Dave.

Kelly, I would also be willing to help with the admin of the site. Hosting it somewhere is needed. I think Dave has it hosted in a place that costs him about $100 per year. Not sure. Maybe that host site could still be used.

The Octoberfest celebration next week should be a lot of fun. I will be there taking pictures, as well as some of the driving events.

QuoteBob in Everett So I ordered up one of the revshift disks. The instructions were pretty adamant that the alignment of the drive shaft and transmission had to be very close. So I started in to replace the damaged one. finally got the old one out and began trying to check how well aligned the two were. They were way out of alignment. There must have been two or three degrees of misalignmen

Don't know if you saw that some time ago I found a source for the belts. With the minimum order and shipping, I wound up buying a handful of them. Still cost me $8 each for a very small item. I have some extras if someone needs one.

In another thread there are details of the E-30 picnic in the Seattle area coming up June 23. There will be over 200 cars there and many modded with larger engines. Would be a great place to shop as many are for sale. Also ideas of what can be done with engine swaps.

Kelly, I disassembled my fan housing again to examine the motor. There is a light spring internal to the motor that pushes the shaft toward the fan. The internal thrust bearing keeps the shaft positioned so it would not move axially. There is a small amount of movement of the shaft possible against the spring. It may be that yours has the thrust bearing excessively worn or the spring is brok

Kelly, The axial movement would be a problem if the fan were to contact the housing at the extremes of travel. In the pictures, I was not seeing evidence of that. There is another possibility that the motor rotor could contact the motor housing internally. Try pushing the fan to one extreme and rotating it, then the other way and rotate. The bearings should not allow much movement as the fan

Kelly, The "spare" fan I have is exactly like yours except dusty from being stored with a bunch of other parts for quite a while. Also on mine two of the three motor support legs of the housing are cracked, probably from being in a box with some other parts. I can reinforce with metal and epoxy to make it serviceable. The motor runs smoothly with power applied and the fan is undamag

Kelly, I found a fan. Picture attached. There is a fracture in the housing just to the right of the motor. I sent a PM.

Kelly, Post a picture of the broken fixture. I might have one. \ The E-30 picnic is a great place to find parts like that too. Lots of folks bring some swapmeet type stuff. That is where I was able to find a working analog clock to replace a non-working digital clock.

Yes, the gearbox is tilted due to the larger engine being more tilted than the M20. The most difficult part of the installation of the M50 is the exhaust. It needed a hand made adapter.

Ove, I had to do some research to answer your question as to which engine I have. It is partly due to my poor memory, the confusion, anyway. Turns out that I have an M52B28 with S52 cams. It came from a 1996 E-39 528. Got modified by a guy intending to put it in his own E-30 318. However life interfered with his project and he needed money more than an engine mod. I took on his accumulatio

Ove, You are correct about the different engines installed in E-30. At the "E-30 picnic" I have seen a lot of odd ones. Currently I have a S-50 in mine. Wonderful improvement.

Might be worth a trip out of state to a shop that uses the good stuff. It is painful putting $4000 into paint that will not last. If the car is otherwise in good condition, the expense is worth the enjoyment of having a very nice ride. It is enjoyable having mine noticed nearly every time I take it out.

The April issue of the BMW CCA magazine (Roundel) featured two different E-30 stories. These demonstrate how timeless these cars are. One went to Barrett Jackson for 29,700 and the other to a collector as well. There were some nice ones advertised for sale in the classifieds. One of the ads was mine and it did not get a response right away but I repeated the ad in June with a much better respo

Ferdinand, Do you have a similar page of circuit diagram for the tach indication? My sedan has an inoperative tach now. It started as intermittent and is now apparently inop along with the back light bulb. Not sure they are related. Speedometer does work full time though. Looks like I need to get more OJT on removing the cluster and re-installing. On the sedan, the most difficult part was t

I think all the "new" fluids are compatible with the aluminum parts of the cooling system and engine. I have used Prestone in my E-30 for years with no issues of leaking in the radiator or corrosion of the thermostat housing.

Thanks Ferdinand. That detail may help me find the problem. I need to look into the cluster for the speedometer problem too.

I have the same problem. Once in a while while driving for a long time it will go out until I shut off the car. Then next time it is on again. I have discussed this with a BMW master tech and he suggested it could be a broken conductor in one of the wires to the sensors. Difficult to diagnose and repair. Similar issue with my speedometer being intermittent but works after driving about 20

Well, that explains the cruise control part. After driving for a while the speedo gets more reliable until the car is parked again for a while. Maybe 20 minutes of driving gets it working again. Maybe if I drove it every day it would be even better. I had the cluster out of another car and it was difficult to get all the trim pieces back together and look correct. Did not think I wanted too

Thanks Ferdinand. That is the type of technical info I needed to begin the search. On my two day trip,. the speedo worked most of the time after the first half hour of driving each day. What I need to study is why the cruise control only works when the speedo is working. If it is not working the cruise control drops off too. To me that says the sensor signal from the differential is not g

That is a good idea. I have wiggled them all so will see tomorrow when I get started on my road trip. Will be a challenge without a speedometer.

Kelly, I am a bit suspicious of the "rust" leading to a failure. I have three E-30s and have changed the racks in two of them. No rust was seen on either but the important part is that the bearings for these are sealed and lubricated for life. There is no maintenance required for them. Even if they were coated with rust, it would not likely affect the function. The mechanic may
