It is a bit difficult but worth it. With the top down that is....with the top up it is almost impossible to get in or out unless one is very flexible. I would put up with the effort for the cool ride though. I have been driving my E-30 cabrio for 14 years and am still not tired of driving it. The Z1 would be just as much fun with more uniqueness.

QuoteBob in Everett There was a nice BMW display going on in Tacoma, Washington. The Collection of Peter Gleeson was on display. Well, he said only part of it. Fantastic display included a Z1. That car is sooo cool. His is red and he says his wife used to drive it in England. I sure wish I could afford a nice one. The price of them has seemingly escalated in recent years. It is a bit

I have had difficult hot starts when my injectors have not been cleaned in a while. I use the chevron injector cleaner occasionally and it seems to help. The problem my son had with his car was that the starter would not engage until the car cooled so a relay or wire issue was most likely since he could jumper the starter control from the round 20 pin connector under the hood.

Kelly, I would not change it. The new gasket is not likely made of cork but sterner stuff they make these days. I have not changed mine even though I did remove it. I just used it over.

So, I did make a new transmission mount but the location needed was such that i had to force the transmission to one side quite a bit. I think the motor mounts are the problem. They must not be exactly the right place. Anyway, to get the transmission to stay where it should be, I had to send off to Pelican parts and get some urethane mounts. The stock mounts are too flexible to hold it. Now

Well, I must not know how to make it work. All I am getting is links to sites that do not relate to what I need.

It really should be in a museum. At least it deserves to be in one as a perfect example. I have a low mileage one similar and it really is a very nice car. Everything in it works.

Good to hear from you. The 5 lug swap must have come along for a reason. Did you also do a motor swap?

I need to get into an E-30 with a stuck driver door lock cylinder. There used to be some articles on how the system worked that could help. Is the Wayback machine still out there somewhere? Thanks.

A nice example appears to be almost the price of a new one. Attached is an ad for a very low mileage cabrio.

After puzzling for a few days over how to tell if the drive shaft and transmission are aligned, realized that what I needed to do was remove the guibo and insert the drive shaft studs into the trans mission coupling half. This gave me three points on the circumference to check the space between them. I found that the angle between them was close to 2 degrees. It appeared to be over 1/16 of an i

So I ordered up one of the revshift disks. The instructions were pretty adamant that the alignment of the drive shaft and transmission had to be very close. So I started in to replace the damaged one. finally got the old one out and began trying to check how well aligned the two were. They were way out of alignment. There must have been two or three degrees of misalignment from the transmiss

I have re-read the link and still am not sure what some of the comments mean. After looking at the latest failed Guibo today (the second one), it appears that I may have installed it backward. I had a discussion with a guy at Oktoberfest about it and he was explaining how to install them and that failures he has seen have been installed backward. The arrows I have seen on them before are not i

Since I was driving on both sets of tires in turn, I could tell the difference immediately. The "instructor" had to keep telling me to push the other tire as hard as I had the Michelin but it felt uncomfortable. The Michelin just felt more control and response.

was just at the BMWCCA Oktoberfest in Monterey this past week and saw another E-30 with a wheel like that. Only other one I have seen.

Volunteered yesterday at the Oktoberfest event Michelin sponsored. It was a new M3 with Michelin Pilot Sport III tires on a autocross type track with a wet section for two laps then an identical M3 with some other brand high performance tires for two laps. I was pretty amazed at the difference in feel of the car and how well planted it felt with the Michelin tires compared to the others. Not

The BMW CCA version of Oktoberfest is in session this week at Monterey, Ca and Laguna Seca Track. Had a glorious concours yesterday with more Z8 in attendance than I thought existed. Came from all over the country. Two 507s and many other rare cars. Many E-30 M3 and other models. The 2002 very well represented as well. Today is track day with Michelin sponsored rides in an M3 with some

Turns out the center button pried out easily with a couple of plastic tools. There is a well designed spring loaded pair of fingers holding it in place. I will save it since it may be a fairly rare and is in pristine condition. I replace it with the one that I think is what came on E-30 M3. picture attached.

My 1989 cabrio has an unusual stock steering wheel that appears to be a "sport" wheel with three spokes. This is a pre-airbag car. So, there is a large round horn button in the center of the steering wheel. I want to remove the wheel but am not sure how to get to the 22mm nut to remove it. Does the horn button just come out if I pry it out?

My friend put one on his car last week and says it does not seem to be causing any issues. I want to put it on my engine modded car but am a bit concerned about not having some compliance in the drive shaft to absorb crankshaft vibrations that might damage the transmission.

A local friend has found a "flex disk" replacement that should do the job. It is made of aluminum with some inserts of polyurethane with sleeves for the bolts. It is made by Revshift.com. Not much flex to it though. I hope my engine is aligned well enough to the drive line. The website recommends the alignment be very good or it might rumble or vibrate. I do worry about how much

The examples you see there were imported from Canada as used cars. There is a 25 year old car exemption for imports not having to comply with most regulations.

Another great gathering of E-30 this year. Bought a few parts for my car and sold a couple of parts. Overall, a great day.

Yes in some places the e-30 is still strong. June 26th next there will be a large gathering of them just south of Tacoma, Washington. The E-30 picnic it is called. A fun time to see a lot of other cars similar to mine.
