QuoteDave_G You know how when you were in college, you probably had professors who wouldn't accept Wikipedia as a source? (If you didn't, you should have.) This is exactly why. Any yahoo with a keyboard can write stuff in Wikipedia, and they do. Which why I usually back up what the wikipedia yahoos say, with what you BENN yahoos say. It's all about how much value you place in yby Earendil - Technical Forum
I really want a set of 4x100 15" BMW wheels! I always thought that the ix wheels would be a relatively quick replacement. Peter, you say the offset is way off between the two? Is it off in a direction that can be corrected for? My understanding was that the ix was the only car that had 4x100 15" wheels. At least in any real quantity? I am soooo hijacking this thread...by Earendil - Community Forum
QuoteJUMPNYC heres a pic of my E30 in Jacksonville when I stopped for a Whataburger. I will take pics of the 2002 next week, sorry for making you wait guys! QuoteArcheo-peteriX It should drop right in. Oh, if only it would just drop in (he says, with the experiencing of "dropping" in a drive shaft way too fresh in his memory). But, I know what you mean Thanks for the answer!by Earendil - Technical Forum
wow, I wasn't aware that there were two different LSD types on the E30's. Color me surprised. I was about to ask what the difference is, when I decided I'd pop over to wikipedia and see if they had anything to say about a viscous clutch. Sure enough, they do! I found this bit particularly interesting... "Viscous LSDs are less efficient than mechanical types, that is, theby Earendil - Technical Forum
Title pretty much says it all. I have a 3.73 open diff in my car. I'm tired of parking one wheel on a half inch of snow, and having the car become immovable. Up on craigs list is a 3.91 LSD from a '91 ix. I don't care about a few higher revs on the freeway, I want an LSD! Are the differentials a direct swap?by Earendil - Technical Forum
Quoterkj How about just getting someone to put the car up for a look see, flip him a few bucks I was actually surprised to find out I could see the bushing location with the exhaust, heat shield, and drive shaft all in place. I say "bushing location" because as I suspected, the bushing was no longer there. However, I had a 2 inch bolt and nut that I was able to stick up in there toby Earendil - Technical Forum
Not to dodge the question, But this sounds like the kind of info that a phone call to the right government agency could solve for you with a high degree of accruacy. After all, they can tell you exactly what they check and what they care about. To directly answer your question though, I haven't the foggiest ideaby Earendil - Technical Forum
Lalala I'm not listening. Actually, to be nit-picky, it DOES represent a propeller, because that's what everyone thinks it is. However its original conception was not, I have now learned, inspired by a propeller.by Earendil - Community Forum
So my rear drivers side door lock sticks in the locked position. Actually, it *functions* just fine, it just has enough resistance that the automatic door unlock system can't unlock it. Locking is fine, and one can unlock it by hand. This is the second winter it's been happening, and when I tore the door apart this summer for other reasons, I cleaned everything up, and greased what I thby Earendil - Technical Forum
Actually, it's not *quite* that bad, and a lot better than what I thought, which was that my transmission was grinding teeth off. I think what happened is that the stop buffer (#7 in this picture) is no longer in place. This has caused my shifter to pivot on the front two solid bolts, and allows for the back of that plate to touch my drive shaft. This is obviously a very negative thing,by Earendil - Technical Forum

Quoteducatipaso I've ridden in and worked on his car. It hauls ass. Fastest chalk board this side of the mississippi I hear. *cough* so about those engine mounts! I replaced mine this last summer and I can't for the life of me remember what I put in there. One of the reasons for "upgrading" to stiffer mounts is to reduce engine twisting, and engine movement overall. Witby Earendil - Technical Forum

QuoteKelly Is there a Portland E30 club? Want to start one? Cheers, Kelly I don't believe there is a Portland Specific one. I know there is at least two Northwest ones, centered around Spokane and Seattle. I really didn't realize how many BENN members were within spitting distance of Portland. Quotealanrw As much as you want the correct part, in the short term, isn't it just a metric threaded piece that can be made up with some washers and a nut? alan I was going to swing by the hardware store this evening and do just that. QuoteBob in Everett With the price of houses these days, might just be able to get yourself one that has a two car garage of your very own. Bob in Everett Actually this is quite possible... at least if I can find a room mate. There are a number of 2 car garage places going for 1200-1400 a month around here. Quoteducatipaso make friends =) consider renting small 1-car shop space, even if you have to go to the ghetto drive there, drive in, close door, work on car, be happy Are places like this advertised as such? QuoteArcheo-peteriX "# Items pictured but not listed are not installed on your vehicle." How did they know that? RealOEM is amazing like that I selected the first and last production E30 trying to find a car that was supposed to have that part, with no luck. My electrical tape only lasted so long, and came apart on my on the freeway while cruising. Arg. Anyway, now that my paycheck is in, I'm looking for the part...and can't find it. For those of us that prefer places other than the side of the freeway (read: preventative care), where do you work on your babies? I don't need help diagnosing the problem, but I thought you all would enjoy a story :-) So on an aforementioned 700 mile drive to retrieve my sister for the family Christmas gathering, I had a slight problem.
