I'm glad things cooled off, and everyone had the guts to admit when they were being hot headed. I apologize as well if I had anything to do with spurring either side. Cheers!by Earendil - Community Forum
I went to give my baby some spring time love, oil change, valve adjustment, etc. I even went to look at the wrecked E30 I keep talking about, got all excited about it, took pictures... Now I can't bring myself to even talk about it. When I went to do the valve Adjustment, I noticed one of the intake valve springs had what looked like a loose O-ring. I'm going to start off sounding like I disagree, but don't worry, it'll come around. I love electronics in my car. Stick electronics in everything. The problem as I see it is not that things are electronic, it's that the benefit of electronics is never realized in modern cars. QuoteJohn Yust QuoteEarendil Is there an easy way to tell the difference between sport and heavy duty shocks? What about the springs? Sport = lowered, Heavy Duty = stock ride height. If the car has been lowered the springs will be shorter too. The right way to do it is to buy lowering springs which are are shorter than stock. Thanks for all the responses! I'm pretty sure the shocks are yellow/blue. unfortunately the current owner did not install them, and cared little what they were. I'd guess that if a person were to install new shocks on a 325is they would opt for the "sport", unless perhaps they got a deal on the heavy duty. Ferd, wrong answer. And you would recommend this even if I don't change out my front shocks/springs for another 6 months to a year? I wouldn't expect a difference in stiffness rear to front to matter too much, but it's quite likely that these Bilstein are lowing the back end at least an inch. I live on a 15 mile mountain road to nowhere. So when I'm going to work, I generally recognize all the cars along the way. I've once seen a 2002 on that road, the only other E30 was wrecked, the only E36 is a co-worker, and there are no E46 or E90. So much to my surprise and glee was this morning's event. Three bimmers in a row, an E90, an E36, and my E30 bringing up the rear.by Earendil - Community Forum
Well, this does not cover enough cylinders, but kind of explains what I'm talking about. I have replaced the seals that would sit near the bottom left, where there is only a 2 pipe seperation. I have not unattached or replaced any seals near the top (where I would have 6 pipes), and I assume that is where Peter was referring to when he said a leak near cylinder 5 and 6? Quoterkj One trick to keep in mind is using different size box wrenches to work on these cly. head exhaust nuts. The last time I did this I used wrenches from all of my sets; whitworth, american and metric (all six pointers), the heat and cooling, rust and wear will actually make these nuts smaller and they will change sizes. This last summer I did a compression test. They were all beautiful. Now, it could be a NEW injector noise, but I know what those sound like in normal operation, and it's not a loud version of those. I'll do that this weekend. Though, my motor mounts are new this summer, and as long as the fan is weighted right, an increase in speed shouldn't cause it to hit anything, right? However, it did seem to start with the cold weather, so maybe we are getting some expansion/contraction issues under the hood with the chilly weather. On my car, 4th gear reaches up to somewhere around 120mph. Why then isn't 5th geared a lot lower? In other words, why doesn't a cruising speed of 70mph sit closer to 2500 rpm instead of 3000+ ? The only explanation I can come up with is that that stupid physics velocity-squared bit means that at those higher cruising speeds our car needs to be revving that high to pull the needed hoby Earendil - Technical Forum
