That sony looks pretty sweet, but the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28 I currently have is pretty much the same, except it does 720p video instead of 1080p (I don't even know if my video card can handle 1080p), it doesnt have the panoramic sweep feature, or that nifty tilting lens. The next camera I will buy will definitely be a dSLR, and as with any electronic product I buy, it will be after thoro

QuoteBimmerBrad IMHO (and I really mean that) I'd be hard pressed to go with anything other than a Canon 5DMKII. Takes brilliant pictures and shoots some of the best HD video images.....period. Obtaining extremely shallow DOF gives your videos more of a motion picture film look. I almost bought one for doing mostly video. Yes, it's THAT good. Journalists are taking this thing out into t

QuoteEarendil Parting words... Canon Rules, Nikon Drools. ~Tyler There is something about Nikon that draws me towards them instead of Canon...I am not sure why. Yes, I am aware that SLRs are not supposed to be multipurpose devices, and one should not expect to have certain features built in, but since they are starting to make SLRs with those features built in, I might as well go for it. I

QuoteDave_G QuotedanielI'd like to get a dSLR soon, but they are pricey, especially since one must buy the lense(s) also. These days you can get a new Nikon D40 with 18-55 lens for under $400. If you look around for a used one I'm sure you can find them even cheaper. I agree that's still not exactly "cheap," but it's a lot less than digital SLRs used to be. Yeah, I

QuoteEarendil I enjoyed them. I don't have much to say besides that :-) Do you consider yourself a "photographer" of any level? thanks. I like to think I have a pretty good eye for setting up well framed shots, and am finally becoming versed in the technical aspects of photography, which makes it easier to take even better photos. I am definitely just an amateur enthusiast

Quotewodcutr Those are similar but the center portion is a bit different in that it is not drilled for two different lug patterns and does not require a hub cap type thingamabob to cover those holes. I have also found some old school five spoke rims that seem interesting just because they were the first ones to come up with that particular design. They are racing dynamic RGP and a guy locally h

start going over them verrrrrry slowwwwwly. no more driving over them at speed. if you are still scraping your exhaust, then i think your exhaust is hanging too low or the speed bumps are abnormally high. i think you should post some pics of your car.

Quotewodcutr Try this one They are the team dynamics pro race 1.3 rims from bimmerworld. hehe, the link still didn't work, but i did a search for the pro race 1.3's to see what you were trying to link to. here is a set i just found on tirerack.com good price, lightweight, correct offset, correct centerbore, and come with centercaps.

that link isnt working. you should look in the r3vlimited wheel classifieds to get an idea of what is available.

Quotewodcutr So if I understand all this I should be looking for 4 lug 4x100 15"x7" with a 24mm offset. The proper tire size would then be 205/60/15 for the speedometer to be correct? the proper tire size for a 15 inch wheel on an e30 is 205/55-15. you can even put a 225/50-15 on there if you want a wider track. as for wheel size, you should be looking for a 15x7, 15x7.5, or even

Quotewodcutr I liked Ferd's explanation including the pictures. It would seem that once again I do not totally know what I am talking about and my assumptions could be misleading. I do find it interesting that Peter seems to know something blatantly obvious to him, and unknowingly obvious to me, yet I am now just as confused as Daniel. I guess we will all look forward to the final outcome

ferd basically reiterated most of what i was trying to say, so i am not sure what you are talking about. that is why i asked earlier for an explanation from you. so saying that ferd and wodcutr have said everything i need to read to see why i am wrong only confuses me more since my explanation is the same as ferd's, and wodcutr's is not the same as mine or ferd's. no one has yet

QuoteFerdinand The nine blades of this disk always trigger the speedo sensor switch to open and close nines times per axle revolution, regardless of what the diff ratio is. The speedometer and odometer will always read accurately regardless of the diff ratio, as long as the car is moving whether the engine is even running or not. However, different tire sizes of different rolling radius, or eve

Quotewodcutr I could be wrong but I believe that the OBC has its own coding plug. I think it uses the coding plug in the dash as well and that calculates speed and economy depending on inputs from the other sensors. The sensor in the diff can only sense each revolution, just like the crank sensor, thus with different gearing such as a 3.73 or a 4.10 the revolutions would be different so the com

QuoteArcheo-peteriX Try holding your foot on the brakes and applying power to the engine...see what your mpg readout is like then. If you guys want to believe that half the inputs to the OBC are ignored then be my guest wouldnt it be zero, since you arent going anywhere, but using fuel? i am trying to understand your reasoning but haven't been able to figure it out. can you quickly

QuoteEarendil Perhaps because the IC needs to know what diff, and the IC just feeds the OBC a current speed, and not the raw revolutions per time data? THat way the OBC can just use the injector data vs speed/distance to figure mpg, and save it some math. yes, i think the mpg is determined by the injector data vs speed/distance relationship.

QuoteArcheo-peteriX Not sure how you have convinced yourself of that...but the speed sensor is driven directly off the big crown gear in the differential. I fail to see how that isn't direct input to the OBC if direct is going from the big crown to the speed sensor and then to the OBC, then yes it is direct. to me, in this context, direct means a direct connection, like speed sensor to O

QuoteArcheo-peteriX Quotedaniel Quotewodcutr If you are only getting 10 mpg then something is definitely wrong. My truck averages 18 and it has a V8. I think you should compute your mileage the old fashioned way by filling your tank and seeing how far you go and fill up again and divide the mileage by how many gallons you put in. My OBC tells me that I only average 22.8 mpg but when I do the r

if it really is all uphill, then 10mpg is reasonable. just for kicks you should do a test to see how accurate it is. reset it, then drive around for like 1/4 of a tank, maybe even less, and see if your calculation matches the readout.
