QuoteEarendil I read that and all I can think is how you are leaving the NW before I get a chance to say "hi". Are you spending the summer out there, or will you be back? well you are going to go to the e30 picnic, right? you live right next to it. it would be silly not to. and i am spending the summer there, but i will be back in august.

QuoteEarendilWhat is it exactly you want to do with it? i want to change it to be a neon green strobe light that is wired to the foglight switch in the dash. actually the bulb just burned out a few days ago, and before i drive across the country to oklahoma i want to replace it.

i think the PO changed it so the carpet covers the 3rd brake light, therefore making it very difficult to access the part that "pops" off.

Quotewodcutr If you are just wanting to change the bulb that can be done from the trunk. i really don't think it can on my car.

there is carpet snugly covering the 3rd brake light housing, not allowing access to it. i guess it is possible someone put a late model shelf on my car.

how is this done? in my car it is definitely not through the trunk. it would appear that i need to remove the rear shelf, but i was told on another forum that that involved removing the back seat, the seatbelts, speakers, etc, just to get to the 3rd brake light. seems like overkill.

Quotenomis3613 QuoteFerdinandI wrote an article a while ago to explain how syncromesh works and why or when double-clutching should be used... Good onya Ferd! That article motivated me to try double clutching. I've been addicted to heel-and-toeing ever since! Probably as much for the fun and challenge of it as for any reduced wear on the box... (apologies for my off-topic post, bushhog)

Quoterkj Quotedaniel QuoteEarendil If you double clutch does it go into third better? Could it be the Synchromesh going out on third? I only suggest this because a decade ago when third gear became impossible to shift into on my Dad's E30, it was the synchromesh that had gone bad...or so the mechanic said. We never did get it fixed its either the synchro or the transmission mounts. for

rick, are you talking about the wheels on this car? i don't know if i would classify those as turbines, but i suppose they may have been called that. the m5 wheel covers are called turbines because they actually route air into the braking system i would love to have a set for my car. yummy.

glad to hear you made it out safely. the e30s are quite nimble, even in stock form. i thought this was going to be a story about scraping the bottom of your car on the ground or something, haha.

QuoteCab Treadway My BIL has an E34 M5, and he said that pretty much every owner ditched those wheels as soon as they could. I don't think I've ever seen an M5 that still has those. thats funny, i took my car to a local high-end wheel shop to get the tires mounted (ended up saving about $75, only $60 for all 4 mounted!), and he informed me that back in the 90's they used to lite

Quotebushhog My '88 325is has developed a 3rd gear problem -- unclear to me whether it's linkage or the transmission itself. Problem is shifting, up or down, into 3rd, whether under load, acceleration or not. Seems as though the shifter doesn't move the internals far enough to engage, with a resulting nasty grinding sound. Occasionally goes in fine. Any opinions on the likely c

QuoteBimmerBrad I think I'm gonna go for the Panasonic GH1 when it comes out shortly. The micro 4/3 concept intrigues me. Plus the fact that if we're out as a family I can get fantastic photos and video at the same time instead of lugging multiple items around. sample vids

QuoteAndy 90 325i Peter, what year and model e30 do you have? Before they reversed the flow of coolant ('90 I believe) the alternator fan/pully had a tendency to cut through the radiator hose when mounts got bad also. In any case, if the engine has moved (especially that much), you should take a look at EVERYTHING to make sure nothing has been stressed/stretched and that nothing has been c

QuoteEarendil The tail pipe, cold engine or hot, smells of raw unburnt gas. so does my car. i hope it goes away once i replace the o2 sensor.

i am not an expert in troubleshooting the technical/mechanical aspects of e30s, but i think the ECU is the last place you should look. It could be a faulty o2 sensor, but as you said, it should throw a code. my check engine light came on in the fall and it turned out to be the o2 sensor. i never replaced it, and since that one day the check engine light has never come on.

QuoteDave_G Quotedanielso why does every RWD sports car over the last 10 years have a staggered setup? They don't. MX-5, S2000, 350Z, and probably a bunch of others. Those are just the first three that popped into my head, and none of them uses staggered tire sizes. It's worth noting that all three of those cars have outstanding handling with their non-staggered setups. the miata yes,

Quotealanrw HI Guys, had an "interface" with some unexpected road debris which spidered my windshield. I went to Pick-A-Part and grabbed a new windshield for $30. I removed the lockstrip, popped out the old windshied, soaped up the gasket, slid the new windshield in, got the gasket worked around when I was at the last 4 inches and the windshield cracked!! Oh well, it was only $30.

QuoteCab Treadway Quotedaniel QuoteCab Treadway Why are you going with a staggered setup? Do you like understeer that much? my car currently actually does not understeer unless done purposely. It may not now, but it will with wider rear tires! Nice that you can tune that out, though. well i guess i'll just have to deal with it until i get 245's on the front also to balance it ou

Quoterkj If you're still driving this car be really careful, that fan is very close to the radiator, very close! Cheers, Rick way, way, way to close. I remain fearful of the M20 to this day because of that.

QuoteCab Treadway Why are you going with a staggered setup? Do you like understeer that much? my car currently actually does not understeer unless done purposely. the reason i will have a staggered setup is because i will be replacing the rear tires before i replace the front tires. the new rear tires will be 245/35-16's, while both front and rear are currently 225/40-16. yes i know bo

QuoteEarendil Quotedaniel this question has been slowly killing me for a long time. I am worried that my tire wear is going to be significantly different because i turn one direction more often than the other. It's called tire rotation. Most places do it for free if you buy your tires from them ;-) I'm pretty sure my own personal driving style causes way more wear and tear than an

QuoteJohn Yust QuoteJohn Yust I know I could improve my odds of winning by actually buying a ticket. I might try that too. I got laid-off on Feb.5, so I need to do something about improving the cash flow into my house. Maybe I should just take all the money I have and buy lottery tickets. That should pretty much guarantee that I win, right? John Remember this old thread? I thought I would d
