Matt, The main pump may only come on for one second when the key is turned on. It waits until the engine starts before it runs continuously. Bobby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
At the E-30 picnic last June there were several nice examples for sale. Some for not a lot of money. I know what you mean about having to give up on a reliable old car. I felt that way when mine got dented last year. Finally did get it fixed but it cost four large. Looks better than before though.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
There are two sizes of the cabrio center brake light. I may have a spare one from a salvage.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
The leaks are around the screws. Have to take them out and put some silicone sealant on them and put them back in. No need to remove the foam. Probably can do it one screw at a time and not even have to remove the light. I had my tools get ruined by rust before I realized how to fix it. When my cabrio was damaged and needed a new lid, I was tempted to leave the light off the new one, but havby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
according to the diagram in my book, and the explanation, the fuel pressure will rise when the vacuum hose is disconnected. The fuel pressure increase will cause more fuel to be passed through the injectors. The engine control would have to increase the air flow to keep the oxygen sensor happy. Might take a few seconds to get it back in regulation. Did you plug the vacuum line when it wasby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
While you are taking the computer out dont forget to replace the bulbs in the heater controls and other areas that are dark. I didn't and it is enough trouble to go back in there that I suffer with the dark control. Also the light for all the buttons on the computer.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
It might be a bit tough on the battery in that display on mode if the car is parked for several days. I have one of those fancy radios and in about 3 weeks, the battery is low.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
What it felt like to me was like just letting up on the throttle momentarily. I accelerated from about 1500 rpm to about 3500 and it seemed like around 1700 and at 3000 it just stopped accelerating momentarily then resumed. I had the throttle floored the whole time so the AFM would be reacting to the increasing air flow as the engine accelerated. But the engine seemed to be smooth running.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
You may have too big a bulb in there. mine barely melts the frost on a cold morning.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
It was great meeting you today and I agree that your symptoms are odd. There is more than one "flat" spot during acceleration. Another thing I thought of besides the injectors is possibly the fuel regulator. If that was a bit erratic in pressure control, it might cause a temporary power loss. Just a thought. Be glad to take your car for a spin and see how it compares with mine. You might also drive mine around the block for the same comparison.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Might just need injectors cleaned.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Went to Glacier Park Labor Day weekend and really enjoyed the top down day without a cloud in sight. The temp was about mid 70s so incredibly pleasant.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Registry
I found that the Turner Motorsport chip helped a lot with that in my 1990iC. It improved the drive ability of the car in city driving immensely. The Eta car may need a different bit of help as the cam is set up for low rpm torque but a call to them might be interesting.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
My brake light warning does come on randomly while driving but not often. I have checked the bulbs and polished the contacts. Even put dielectric grease on the bulbs to try and minimize the effect of corrosion on the current and it seemed to help. Only partially disassembled the check panel and ran out of daylight. Will take another look one day soon. The oil level sensor had failed someby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I saw news video of some historic covered bridges washing away. Sad to see them go. Even if rebuilt, it just would not be the same.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
got the box loose but could not easily remover the connector. It appeared to be held on with some plastic tabs under the lead in wire bundle. Tried to get it off but was concerned about breaking it. A small metal spring clip fell out from somewhere and could not see a place to put it back. Hope the box stays installed now. Replaced my oil sensor with one that checked out good and the onby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Hey thanks for the details on disassemble of the panel. It helps to get started without breaking anything. I will be taking a look into mine for cracked solder joints. Thanks,by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I have considered just that a few times. My oil indicator light is on again but I think it is the sensor that has failed again. Need to short out the connector pins I suppose. ....by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Ok, I have frequent indications for the brake light myself. I could not find anything in the Bentley manual on how to take the circuit board out of the panel. How does it come apart? Thanks,by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Lets hope those mighty oaks are up to the task. Would be a shame to have to make firewood out of them.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Taking a motorcycle for a ride in the woods is a great way to have some fun. I like that much better than the 3 and 4 wheel toys.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
That is a problem with cars. Once a person invests some time and money in them, he gets attached to his investment. Not a bad thing though. Cars are like a magic carpet that can take you places and carry your stuff. They even keep you warm in winter and dry in the rain. And, when you stop, they don't fall over like a motorcycle does.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
I bought one just like that 7 years ago and have loved every minute I have driven it. 90,000 of its 209,000 miles are mine. Just got one of the wind screens to use with the top down. Really makes speeds above 45 mph much more enjoyable.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Since car rental places do not have BMW very often, I rented a camry several weeks ago. It was a nice car. Bland but nice. For someone who does not enjoy puttering with their car and doing some sporty driving, it is an adequate car. Good reliability. Parts are more expensive than E-30 parts though.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
Might be a difficult search after driving a BMW. My sister drove several cars in her search and when she got to the 530 iX, she decided that was the one. We heard at the E-30 picnic from the owner of an M3 that he bought new in 1988 and has driven 485,000miles. He says it will turn over 500,000 by the end of the year. Still on the original engine. There are a couple of configurations. The some models have two pumps. One is the transfer pump from one side to the other. Mine only has one pump and an external line for the other half of the tank. Access is from under the back seat. There were two short pieces of hose connected to the mounting flange of the pump. I had to cut the old hose off so had to replace them. As I recall they wereby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Gasoline tanks are full of fuel vapor that has no air in it. The vapor is heavier than air. So the mixture in the tank is not a flammable mixture. When the pump quits howling though, the engine will also get very quiet. Hope you have spare. The hoses on the pump were a pain in the neck and had to be changed too when mine went bad.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I have been similarly having difficulty with the 65 series tire. Went with 195-70x14 instead and they have been working fine. The speedometer is actually more accurate and reads only about 2 mph high at 60 mph instead of about 4 with the stock tires. It gives me the indication of 3% lower gas mileage due to the larger diameter tire but is more accurate I think. Gives you a lot more choices.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
