A problem like that I would have noticed as I park in the same place regularly and would see a puddle. Also check my oil nearly every time I fill up with gasoline. I did get a surprise myself last week while driving an hour from home my oil level warning light came on. My sons had been using my car and had not been checking the oil level for three tanks of gas and I had to stop at a store andby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
The M50 works really well in the E-30. I have seen several conversions locally at the annual E-30 picnic. Been tempted to do the same myself. I do still enjoy the simplicity of the M-20 but the periodic timing belt change is a bit annoying. It gives me a chance to clean up the engine and do some other stuff along the way though. The cost of the engine is usually less than having the head wby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
That is true, competition will prevail. The problem is the price of the scan tool needed to read its mind. If one could buy the tool for a reasonable price it would be a benefit to diagnosis for the home mechanic or hobbyist. The way it is now, these new cars will not be easily modified and customized by aficionados of old cars. They get junked and parted out with the slightest damage. The E-38 is a drivers dream car but when even the sunroof motor has to be controlled with a computer it has gone a bit over the top. The feature on the key fob that allows the windows and sunroof to be opened or closed all at once requires a lot of computer control and wiring for them too. It is a feature that might get used a dozen times in the life of the car and certainly not necessary for tby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
The E-30 is just about as complicated a car as I want. I was trying to determine why the sunroof on the spouse's 740 would open and not close...had to go to a shop and have the scan tool give it the once over. Turns out the motor module was not communicating with the car CAN bus. The switch on the sunroof panel does not control the motor, it tells the computer to tell the motor what to doby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
I plan to keep my two E-30s until I cannot drive any more. Maybe a party is a good idea. I am getting a pair of door door panels today to replace the two with some minor cuts in them where the seat belts have been pinched in the doors.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Many new cars that are that heavy like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry do not get better than that. Those that are more efficient are not what one would like to take on a long road trip that required baggage.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
That is a lot better than many new cars.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
I love it when a fix like that succeeds. Gives one a sense of overcoming great obstacles and winning the day. Sort of makes all the trivial pursuit of why things work the way they do pay off at last.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I hope it treats you well. It looks like a nice car. Any parts you need can likely be found from salvage for a huge savings.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
I believe this vintage car was pretty well rust proofed at the factory. The airbag item might be good for a price reduction. Your wife will love driving it.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
A very merry Christmas to you and all of yours as well. We had to have the present opening pandemonium today as the Christmas eve services tonight and church services tomorrow will be a challenge to get all the house guests groomed and transported on time without the added excitement of the gifts. It seems that the likelihood of arriving on time is inversely proportional to the number ofby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
There is probably some ice on the mechanism inside the door from condensation. A spray can of windshield deicer on all the mechanism you can reach might help. Will probably start working once the car is parked in some sunshine for a few minutes.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I would guess the ignition wires are not the issue. Might check the distributor cap and rotor. What I do is when I have them off for the timing belt changes, I wash them with hot water and dish washing detergent to get the ionized metal "smoke" off the inside and any other debris. This removes any current paths that could allow a short to ground. dry them well with a cotton cloth toby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum

The Bentley says at 68F 2100-2900 ohms. at 176F 270-400 ohms. There are two of them though. One for the gauge and the light colored one for the computer.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
It is a 55. The last year they had real gauges in the instrument cluster. Built like a tank compared to today's cars.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum

Many years ago radial tires were sensitive to being reversed on rotation but that seems to have been cured. I usually mark my tires when I take them off for seasonal changes just so I do not forget where they need to go next to get even wear. On my E-30, I move them from front to back about 5000 mile intervals. That way they wear evenly on the edges.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Dave, The restoration of the technical articles will be a great addition to the site. I had used those so many times when I first got my "new" cabrio seven years ago. Once in a while still need advice for a new problem so am looking forward to seeing them again. I hope to keep my "Chariot of the Gods" until I cannot drive any more.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Suggestions and questions
The news article I heard sounded like it was the lug bolts that break off. This would be due to a poor choice of materials or faulty processing. One would think that the driver would notice a missing one before it got to the point they all came off.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk

Peter, I was convinced you were going for an automatic for the commuter car...the 42 mpg has to be a plus. My wife is getting about 16 mpg around town in her car and the fillups are too painful for her when they get over $40 so she sends me the 3 miles each way to do the job for her...like that helps things much. I guess the mouse clicks to pay online are less painful than pulling out the credby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk

Jose, I think you have understood the whole principle of world finance these days. The whole thing is based on debt. The bank creates the money out of nothing and loans it to us. You are right about that.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
A book I read several years ago, "The People's Pottage" concluded that the revolution was complete in 1932 with the election of FDR. All the stuff that has happened since seems to confirm it. The occupy crowd seems to want a 360 degree revolution. It does not seem to want to reverse the growth of government.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
A little online investigation indicates a huge connection with the establishment via George Soros sponsored groups providing the "leadership" of these ersatz demonstrations. Some of the personalities involved also seem to be connected to Obama's posse. It could be a sort of fifth column in a re-election campaign. Hard to tell.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
