I know nothing about the automatic internals, my advice is to walk to the gas station and bring back a can of gas, instead of pushing the whole car. yahoo

BFG advert? The way to drive, good tyres and ground clearance are more improtant for off-road driving than having 4wd. Old school Land-Rovers and Jeeps spend most time in 2WD mode, most people don't even knows what the small lever is used for. And yeas, e-30 do awesome things.

It is not "ultimate performance", but it's very collectible now. Good e-30 sell for more than comparable e-36 newer models. To be automatic and four door may be very acceptable, as most people is used to that configuration anyway. The platform looks good, but it may end up to be the next "Uber"... Good luck with your new business, I would rent an e-30 if I could,

Well, my car is an ex-taxi imported used from hamburg. It has at least 740000km, nobody knows for sure. I know only the last 110000. Pretty good for a car loaded with story! As far as I know, it was never raced, but nobody knows for sure.

Thats a serious distance travelled. Is about 14 times around Earth. Is more than the distance to the Moon, you'r half the way back. You probably used 52000L of gasoline, and produced 122222kg of CO2 over that distance. 55 oil changes, and same number of oil filters, just short of 300L of fine motor oil. Now one would imagine you enjoyed your car for about 9000 hours of driving pleasur

QuoteBob in Everett There is some truth to that for sure. Having something and trying to keep someone else from taking it becomes a worry as well as just caring for the stuff. Well, that worry is more about how you deal with owning something, more than how much or what you have, For example, Rowan Atkinson was all cool on "Top Gear" telling how he crashed his McLaren, and then soon

QuoteBob in Everett That goes along with the concept that it is "hard to drive a bargain." Cars can be addictive. At least it seems like it in my case. Who really needs 6 old cars. Is not about needing, Jay Leno says something like "you would have too, if you could! Who wouldn't?" He has all kinds of old and new cars, big and small, fast and slow... And I would have

This is the last month in my current job, I recently completed 8 years here. Is the 4th time that happens to me since I joined BENN forum, which makes this community really long lasting! Anyone still remembers when BENN first started? Are there any old files from that era? I am in the moment of my life when I need to delete things from my CV, to keep it within 2 pages. Next, I think I

Look like steel finger nails! Were have you been driving your car?! It happened to me once, had three nails of the kind you use for wood construction in one tire.

QuoteMichiel 318iS Bicycle tyres are ridiculously expensive compared to car tyres. It depends. If you consider the weight of both tires, bicycle tires will cost several times more per kg. But in bicycle parts, low weight is very desirable! If you consider by piece, like Ove, tires for the bike are much cheaper. Then there is mass production effect, few people buy ice tires for the byke, so

QuoteOve Kvam Yes, we have lots of rain and wind here. I don't mind anymore. After all, we Norwegians decend from arctic explorers. Bring it on! That's the spirit! Here in Porto, pouring rain and strong wind coincide often in the autumn and spring, so the use of umbrella is pointless. We never get extreme temperatures though.

QuoteOve Kvam I ordered new winter tires today. This type So you don't get much wind and rain over where you live? I find very unpleasant to ride the bike in the rain.

Winter is easier to prepare over here. We get mostly rain, and frost for the coldest months. Just clean the inside of the windows with anti-fog product, check wiper blades and tire thread depth, and drive on! Replace radiator fluid in case it is very old or diluted is advisable too.

One thing is certain, they can fake emissions, but they can't fake consumption and mileage. There are some new turbo-diesels pushing the boundaries of fuel efficiency. Problem is getting efficiency, clean emissions and power from a small engine, all at the same time. I've been said only by removing exhaust filter and reprogramming, that can give lower fuel consumption, but I don

Now they say VW will recall affected cars. If VW offered two choices for the recall, A) put serious emission control in place or B) get the most hp and screw emissions. Which do you think most consumers would choose?

Quotejaffar We have to take the technical inspection and emissions test every 2 years. But you can pass that in almost ANY inspection unit with no more than 10 EUR bribe. Some even do it for free. The network is so well developed, they call the authorities first, to make sure there's no surprise inspection at that time, then they measure the emissions from another car, or just put the sensor

Quotejaffar It gets even worse in second-hand countries like romania. People buy all sorts of old diesel cars from western EU, then remove particle filters and catalytic converters ("to gain more power" or simply because they don't feel like spending $$$ for replacing parts). The amount of smoke and poison chemicals they release in the air is insane, but nobody seems to care about

QuoteOve Kvam And what confuses us Europeans, is why you have different rules for pollution for trucks versus normal cars, as I see lots of Americans commuting in trucks. I am not so sure that a diesel engine is more expensive and needs more maintenance than a petrol engine. My petrol engine has Valvetronic, VANOS, dual inlet turbo and direct injection, and that is a entry level car. I

QuoteOve Kvam I think our 2012 F20 116i is fairly pollution friendly with its turbocharged petrol four. It drinks 5 to 7 liters per 100 km in traffic, and maybe 20 for track driving... We are considering a new 3 cylinder 118i. 5-7 is as good as it gets, about the same as a Prius, but without the ugliness and boring driving.

QuoteOve Kvam I agree with Jose Pinto. I wish more people would use petrol or electric (or petrol-electric) cars instead of diesel. I am also very confused about the US pickup truck rules. I wish I had a 3L/100km hybrid, but I can't afford to finance something like that, hence the old beat up diesel car. I believe nobody is a great fan of the 1.4L turbo diesels, but that is what aver

When something looks too good to be true, probably it's not true. Quotehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/23/nyregion/volkswagens-diesel-fraud-makes-critic-of-secret-code-a-prophet.html?_r=0 Most VW sold in Europe are TDI, mostly in 2L and 1.5L sizes. Are they cheating us or are we cheating ourselves? Don't everyone "tune" the turbo diesels for more power and torque, re

What a story! Corroded terminals, mositure and bad wiring can cause all sorts of problems. OTOH, electronic modules built to automotive specs are musch more durable than people think. Obviously, at the shop they will never blame the 0,25€ conector, but the 500€ module instead.

Good job! That fan sure looks odd, and is missing the plastic shroud. Perhaps you can remove it all together and go with electrical fan only, as many cars do, e30 320is included. The stock air box may an improvement over the exposed cone filter, but it looks good either way.

What an horror story! Ended up spending a lot of money, and no car. What bugs me most is people try to pass a bad car lying instead of admitting car needs some work. Specially if he knew for a fact you would fly from a long distance to pick the car. If you were expecting the car to have issues, and decide to buy it anyway and have it towed, it would be better for everyone! Better luck

Very good, indeed! You are the "Jay Leno" of the E30 BMW, you need a large garage to keep all that! I notice a trend for 1988 325iX. Ever considered 4 cylinder engines?
