Free speech is about to be changed: "But author Brad O'Leary examined Obama's legal and organizational attempts to silence media detractors during the presidential race and came to a different conclusion." "Barack Obama has shown a stunning lack of tolerance for free speech throughout the course of campaign," said O'Leary. "His presidency, combin

Cab, You are a voice of reason in all this discussion. Most of the discussion has ignored one very important item that you kept pointing toward but not many seemed to actually comprehend; the proper role of government. Two things most Americans do not want to discuss much is politics and religion. There is nothing that touches our lives more than politics and religion. With religion or moral

The 65 mph is exactly the resonance of the suspension. Mine does that when I have a bent wheel on the front. Had it straightened and problem solved. So, it sounds like tire out of balance or bent rim. Bob in "Everett

I had a similar starting problem until I had my injectors cleaned. I took them to Witchhunter here in the Puget sound area. One day turn around. He also does UPS and Fedex one day turnarounds. Bob in Everett

There is also some law in Germany that a device like a battery that emits flammable gas (hydrogen) is a fire hazard and is not allowed in the engine compartment. All the old beetle VW had the battery under the rear seat. The seat springs could sag and short out the battery terminals, setting the car on fire. Sort of typical of government actions and unintended consequences. At least that is

I just recently replaced the battery in my 325iC from Interstate distribution store. I squawked a bit about the price since it was higher than Costco, The clerk suggested a Blemished battery...which looked a lot like the real one but with the lable removed and a generic lable stuck on it. Cost was about half the regular price with a two year guarentee instead of a 5 year. My old Interstate bat

Most of the 14 inches I have shoveled off my drive the past two weeks is melted but more is forecast for tomorrow. Just in time to go back to work on Friday. Hope it melts and I do not have to shovel it. My appetite for snow is satisfied for now. The rain and frost will suffice for a while thanks. I was saved by having a set of old studded snow tires for the rusty old Suburban that took us

Glad you found the place. I had to ask for help to find it myself. Sounds like you have a great car but will take some hands on time. My son has one and they are very different cars. Not much interchanges. His is a more modern but more computerized BMW and more difficult to work on. Bimmer forum has an E36 group I think. They should be a great help in solving any problems. There is a

One item on my Santa's list was a new heater core. It came, believe it or not. The one in my car only leaks when it is cold soaked overnight. When the temp gets down to around 40 or 45, it seeps coolant into the car and takes a while to evaporate it onto the windshield. So, a new one seems the only cure. Anyone else have similar experience? Just wondering if it is repairable. Bo

On mine, the contacts on the bulbs and sockets was the culprit. I cleaned and polished them and put some dielectric grease on them and have not had problems since. Bob in Everett

We had a similar situation with my wifes car. The person who hit the car did not want to tell where she lived and my son, the driver, did not get the license number of her car or her address. She would not answer her phone when we called. The following Saturday, we drove around the neighborhood and found the car and knocked on the door. We had the correct house and now the license number. We

Inflation is a wonderful wealth transfer mechanism. It transfers wealth from those who save to those who borrow. Those losing it hardly can tell what happened. It takes a little study to get through all the retoric on the major media. There are several books out on how the Federal Reserve Bank creates money out of government debt. Most simplistically, the Government just prints it. The F

Seems like most of you that have commented on the so called bail out understand the consequences are going to be inflation and theft of our savings because of it. It is no wonder most folks do not understand what happens. I looked up inflation in the dictionary on my desk and it defines it as an increase in prices and wages. Nothing said about the creation of fiat money by government edict bei

Wow, this topic sure got off in a new direction. I hardly ever go to the comunity forum but this one probably belongs there. I still have not been able to get my antenna up and now my car is covered with ice since I have not driven it in a couple of days. Have to dig it out tomorrow though and get my El Camino out of the garage to get the Christmas tree. Sure glad I have a hard top in it for

I agree that the winters seem to be worse the past couple of years. Seems like the age of global warming is over. The sunspot cycle must be in the "low energy" mode or what ever it is that they do. The warmest year on record in recent years was 1998. Bob in Everett

The heated door lock option would be the cure for the drivers door. I don't think there is an option for it on the trunk. Probably a better idea than a hot key. Although by warming it key a couple of times with my hands it eventually did get the door lock to workl. The antenna won't go up either so the radio is not getting a signal. The alcohol spray stuff or a hair dryer in the t

On this cold morning it took about 10 minutes to get into my car. The locks were frozen from the wet snow that fell yesterday and got into everything before the temperture went to below 20 F last night. Would it be so nice to have a key that would get hot enough to thaw the frozen lock cylinder? Better than warming it in my hands repeatedly. Bob in Everett

I got this in the mail today.... Dear Mr. Fisher: Thank you for contacting me regarding the economic recovery package. I appreciate hearing from you. As you may know, the bailout package itself has been largely ignored as the Treasury and Federal Reserve have given out nearly $2 trillion of taxpayer dollars without disclosing to Congress or to the public who t

Interesting commentary above...Some of the "bailout" money went to buy bank stocks so there is some accountability. Still a bad idea. A lot of it is just unsecured loans which will be hard to collect. Congress asked for an accounting but Bernanke refused to give it so they cut off the money until they get a say in it. Their track record in spending sensibly is not very good either.

Some newer cars do get more out of the fuel than one might expect. I can actually get better mileage from my wifes 2001 740 IL than my E30 cabrio. It weighs about 4300 pounds. Crusing at 75 with AC it gets almost 25 mpg. My E30 only got 24 without the AC on the same route and speed. Bob in Everett
