I just bought this 2000 E39 wagon -- 68,000 miles, one owner, and clean as a whistle. I flew from Charlotte to DC today to pick it up, and had a great 7-hour drive home. I still have the E30; I wanted something to drive on those days not fit for the convertible. Big fun! I hope the E39 forums are as friendly and helpful as this one.

It has the M52 I6 engine, and the 5-speed steptronic transmission. I drove a 2001 with the V-8 earlier this year, but my BMW mechanic advised that long term I'd be much happier with the reliability, maintenance, and fuel economy of the six. The eight was extremely fun to drive, but the six is no slacker, either. Running between 70 and 80 mph for over six hours yesterday, I got 26.1 miles per gallon.

M52B28. Call me crazy, but I love the car. I think that sport tourings (of any make) tend to be less popular in the USA than in Europe, so nice used ones are few and far between.
Hopefully this one will have been worth the trip in the long term. Andy 1987 325ic |

Why crazy? It's a nice and practical car. The only reason my E46 is a 4 door instead of a Touring is that fuel consumption is just a tiny bit lower. On the practical side I'm way behind the Touring, I can hardly fit our baby boy's stuff in the trunk, but hey, that's why we have the Touran.
528i's are rather rare around here, as we have to pay quite a lot of taxes on them. |

A VW mini MPV:
My girl has it as a company car. It has a 105 hp diesel engine, which is enough to drive around in our flat part of the country, just came back from the French speaking part of Belgium, there the engine had to work a bit harder. Doesn't really matter, it should carry our family, not race the streets, that's what the BMW is for (yes, even if it's a diesel). Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/27/2011 01:01PM by Michiel 318iS. |
