QuoterkjI should write up the fuel pressure test that I do in the shop here, its a most complete way of doing it. That's something I would read. I have no idea even what I would use to measure the pressure. QuoteI don't think the fpr is your starting problem but, anything can happen. Usually a faulty fpr will show itself on hard acceleration. Hmm. Acceleration is just fine, so if tha

Quoterkj Do you have a meter? If so start checking a few things; juice at the coil when the switch is turned on and things like that. Over the years these connections, like the key switch, can become dirty and lose voltage making for hard starting. Could also be a weak coil, I would do a fuel pressure check too. My bad start in damp conditions turned out to be spark plug wires. I do have a meter

Quoterkj While the car is parked? Thats why the stalk switch is there to make an easy, on the fly, readout B) Yeah, but sadly, I have no cool whiz-bang stalk switch. I'll need to find someone else to trade with for that. For now, I'll just have to endure moving my hand all the way over to the OBC and pushing buttons.

Quoterkj Does your condition show itself more in damp conditions?, cold conditions don't usually have any affect on starting, other than if the oil is too thick. Dave, you use synthetic, right? Yup, it's cold and dry is a bit of a problem, but it's worst when it's cold and damp. I am using 10W/40 synthetic. I've already replaced the coolant temp sensor with no effec

OK, yeah, I know the obvious answer: you go fast. But I'm asking in particular when you're starting up the engine. I still have an issue with hard starting in cold and wet weather. But if I hold the accelerator to the floor as I turn the key, it starts up pretty quickly. So what exactly is happening, mechanically or electrically, when I hold the pedal to the floor? And why would tha

Quotejaffar what if I want to just drive on a road, even on a twisty mountain road ? Well, then I can only accelerate very very slowly (otherwise my car is all over the place), I have to take all twists very very very very slowly and if the road is gong down and I need to brake, then it feels like it will NEVER stop. That's not normal. That is dangerous and abnormal behavior for any car, FWD

QuoteArcheo-peteriX Just wanted to report that the OBC swap that Dave G and I did is complete. The iX is now back to it's OEM clock and Dave's is upgraded to the full OBC with code relay. ...and I've been having lots of fun playing with all those new buttons.

Quoteakstraw By the way, the convertible battery is under the hood. Not sure why BMW put them in the trunk for other models. Usually it's done for F/R weight distribution -- I can only assume that BMW did it in the E30 for the same reason. I forgot that the iC has the battery in the front. The iC is about 150-250 pounds heavier than other models, so I guess the weight distribution is d

The Optima battery, along with the Odyssey, WestCo, and a few others, is not a gel cell. It's an AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery, where the acid is absorbed by a big mass of fiberglass. But either way, the important thing is that it's not a wet cell battery. Wet cell batteries generate hydrogen gas, which is why the original E30 batteries were vented to the outside. (Other cars with ba

Quotenomis3613 My car has taken revenge for me driving down a nasty, rutted country road by refusing to operate the brake lights! They come on when the switch on the pedal is bridged, so it appears that the switch is broken. But I can't get the old one out. How do you get it out? Are there tabs that need to be pushed in? Are they on the top/bottom or sides? The same thing happened to min

QuoteDave_G I wish it were a very easy thing. It's one of two things at the top of my list to add to the forums (the other being a small label for BENN financial supporters). However, it will take a little code hacking on my part, which I haven't had the chance to tackle yet. But I will, soon, I promise! Done!

By popular demand, the location field is back. You can now have your location show up in the user info section of your posts. It can be set in the control center (link is at the top of every page); click the "edit my profile" link. Happy New Year!

It occurred to me yesterday that we all love to post pictures of our beautiful E30s in postcard settings, shiny waxed bodies glistening in the sun on some beach somewhere. This thought occurred to me after arriving home after three consecutive days skiing in the nearby mountains, as my iX sat in the driveway sporting a week's worth of grime, road salt, frozen slush, ice, and snow. It looked

We've had 18-20" over the past few days. The roads are snowpacked, the temperatures are frigid, the skiing has been nothing short of spectacular, and the iX has been out where it belongs, powering through the snow on the way up and down the mountain. Studded Hakka 4s help a lot. This car has the traction of a Jeep and the handling of a sports car. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Hap

QuoteFerdinandUsing MS-Explorer I have no problem on either computer. The problem only occurs using Firefox on my office computer. That strengthens my suspicion that this is an issue with cookies on your office computer. Check the settings under Tools > Options > Privacy, and make sure that Firefox is configured to accept cookies, and to keep them until they expire.

QuoteFerdinandIs this a cookie issue? How can I fix it so I stay logged in from either computer? I think this is a cookie issue. The forums are set to issue a cookie that will save your login credentials for 30 days. My guess is that the browser on your work computer is not getting this cookie. Are cookies turned on? Can you try a different browser program to see if it does the same thing?

I love my iX. (You may have heard me say that before.) It's by far the most fun vehicle I've ever had the pleasure to slide around in the snow. It takes years off my age. But there's a problem. It's too fun. To drive it the way it begs to be driven makes me look like a hooligan, and in the small town I live in, if I look like a hooligan, it will be all over town within a day.

QuoteArcheo-peteriX It was part of a premium package. Along with heated door lock came heated side mirrors, heated windshield spray nozzles and heated seats. This may have been standard on the iX but was mostly optional on other models. The heater is a thin ring that mouted with the lock cylinder...you would have noticed it as it had a wire attached to it Ah. Thanks. My iX doesn't have it

QuoteArcheo-peteriXMy iX has the heated door lock...simply lift the handle for 30 seconds and the key slides right in Check yours out... Really?? Do they all have that or was that an option? I should go out and check mine. I replaced the lock cylinder last year and didn't notice anything heater-like around it. What would it look like if it was there?

Quotedaniel Is there any way to make our emails not be filtered into the spam folders of various email providers? Good catch. Unfortunately we have

QuoteFerdinand To reiterate, if it's something that doesn't work for one particular browser but works in others, then it's most likely an HTML code validation error. It's not the browser's fault, but a fault in the webpage's HTML code. Yes, I know. Unfortunately the errors you're seeing are coded into the canned Phorum templates themselves. Some of the template
