I wanted to say thanks for the help over the years with the e30. I just sold mine as she was getting on in years and I needed something that took less working on and more driving / ground clearance as I spend more time in South Texas hunting. Its been most informative talking with yall. -Jackby jl1371 - Car Talk

I dont mean to hijack your thread but what do you use to test the pressure and how do you splice it into the system with out causing a leak point. I always use a vacuum pump to measure such things, but would be afraid of damaging the pump with fuel. I would assume you are coming in on the fuel in side and have clamped the return line and as you said behind gauge on the tank side. I am interestby jl1371 - Technical Forum
I have been out and about for most of the later months of the summer just came back to the real world hopped on. My surprise to see a question I asked months ago is still up at it. Hope everyone had a good and productive summer. And yes I will be taking out my fan and installing a slimmer electric fan, will report on how it FEELS. No imperial evidence here.by jl1371 - Technical Forum
I don't want people to get the idea that I live in the south and feel the need to drive a big truck to over compensate, I do construction and the truck is for working. Mostly I am pro new technologies just not when it comes with a new worse cost. So often I feel that we are having the wool pulled over our eyes by the big three soon the big 2. We have prove technologies here and keep allowby jl1371 - Community Forum
The batteries are made of nickel, the nickel is mined in Canada, nickel mining is a really nasty thing it causes acid rain. It is loaded up on boat and shipped to Spain I believe where it is made into the gel from there it is shipped to China to be turned in to foam, then to Japan to be placed in the car. Finally its shipped back across the Pacific in to California, then transported to the restby jl1371 - Community Forum
I read all about the obama admins stuff and CAFE is already their. I cant stand hybrids because the people think they are saving the world when the carbon foot print is larger from a prius then the f250 power stroke I drive. This is when you account for a total build of both cars because of the mining for the nickel for the batteries. What we need are the tdis that the rest of the world has thby jl1371 - Community Forum
I always like reading yall talking about finding a rust free one, I am no rust virgin (I had a 76 MBZ that was gone but I tried to save her, cancer is the only way to describe it) but the kind of rust we get down here in Central Texas is nothing like what yall get up their. There are a few 2002s running around down here in the town I live in they are in great shape. Yesterday I was talking withby jl1371 - Community Forum
Sorry by power I meant the drop in power to run the mechanical fan vs the electric fan. So you have lost less hp to run the electric fan. I would think the added drag on the alternator to power the fan would be less then the added drag of running the mechanical fan. I agree it is a less "efficient" of a set up.by jl1371 - Technical Forum
Quotedaniel unless you hack in a new converter into the old down pipe. That doesn't make much sense either. jus to help with price comparisons, i just had a headers-back exhaust built for my car with a new cat and muffler (2.5in tubing) for $700 total. the cat and muffler were magnaflow, and i think they were about $200 each. When they built your system did they crush bend the tubing oby jl1371 - Technical Forum
There are three reasons I have heard for running an electric 1. they don't take power from the motor 2. they move more air 3. they are smaller making it easier to move around the engine bay Mostly I want to do this because I have another daily, lots of time, and a good fan sitting in the garage. I cant see how putting more strain on the alternator could be an issue. If the electric fby jl1371 - Technical Forum
Has anyone set up an electric fan. I have a crown vic fan and most of the wires to set it up. I was reading Peters post about engine mounts and remembered that I have this fan and would like to take the power off the motor. But am I signing up for a huge job and should just leave well enough alone. Jackby jl1371 - Technical Forum
QuoteEarendil I actually am doubting we have one now, as I can't find any information on how to test it, either online or in my bentley... How can we not have an air temp sensor?! . I believe it is on the outside of the air filter box. Its got an oval shape on the top of it. Jackby jl1371 - Technical Forum
If you don't have the money for a new cat, I have taken them and removed the remainder of the catalyst material. Then welded a new pipe in the middle to make a "test pipe." Keep in mind this is not legal and probably will not pass smog inspection but it can save some money for a short time. The pipe in the middle prevents odd back pressures from the air flowing into different sizby jl1371 - Technical Forum
I have not done an e30 clutch but I have on an e36 and other 80's european cars and it takes some time and more patience but is completely doable. I got a tranny jack from harbor freight that really helped in pulling them not so much in stabbing them back in, and has proven itself many times over on other tasks. I drive a 87 325 and also run on regular with out a chip, and premium with the chip. I like that California pasted such restrictive epa regulations on diesels that MBZ could not bring in their new Bluetech into the states, but Ford and Chevy can build their trucks with no regulations. The real kicker is the US goverment and CAFE, (a little article about CAFE).by jl1371 - Technical Forum
If you are going to take all the time to get the info just from the cluster and possibly from the ECU, have you looked in to megasquirt. That way to can also tune what you dont like. I know that it would be a ton more work to do this. But there is software already written to run e30s which from what I understand is over half the megasquirt battle (please correct me if I am wrong) I rode wiby jl1371 - Technical Forum
