Boy, ya gotta wonder if living on the ocean just has a cumulative effect on the electronics (connections) over time and the ill effects are just a stacking up of resistances. I know my cruise control, every 6 months I have to pull the right rear tail light, clean the contacts, reseat and all is good. And I don't live anywhere near the ocean. Of course, if I was smart, I would squirt some dieby alanrw - Technical Forum
Yeah, it's only been 60 days, what are we thinking? Perhaps in another 60 days they will have begun to schedule congressional hearings on what to do about it. By then, the gulf should be dead for the next 2000 years. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Non repairable, replace the radiator (you can call a radiator shop to make sure, but I am pretty sure the plastic side tanks are crimped to the metal cross tube assembly with an O-ring for a seal. You could have a cracked side tank or crappy o-ring seal). When the radiator is out, access to the pulley bolt should be a lot easier!! You obviously have the skills, just slow down, check, and recheby alanrw - Technical Forum
Peter, does it run all programs or do you have to get Ubantu specific programs? Cd burning software, movie editing, browsers, etc? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Hmm, you've come this far. I might worry the lack of the bolt could set up an imbalance in the rotating mass in relation to the remaining 5 bolts. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Hmmm, 82lbs sounds more like the torque on a single large center bolt on a harmonic damper. A pulley bolt, especially if it is one of 6 would be much lower? Recheck the manual!! Wheel lug nuts are torqed to 75-90 ft pounds. Is it possible the spec was 82 INCH-pounds not foot pounds? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
x2 what John said. Hopefully, you didn't bend any valves but you need a new timing belt then a compression test to see if you still have compression. These engines are definitely not supposed to make clacking sounds from the valve train (it that's what it was and not pistons hitting valves). alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
......say what you will, just make sure you are backed up. Ubantu, Fedora? Who names these things? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
41 years ago, we put 2 guys on the moon. One would think we could engineer a blow out preventer valve that has some redundancy built into it. Additionally, it would also seem logical that there would be an emergency shutdown lever which would immediately seal the well should something nasty occur on the drilling platform itself. The response no doubt would be "too expensive" but I am prby alanrw - Community Forum
Alternator/regulator? But that wisp of smoke from the dash is troubling. Connector from the ignition switch under the steering column ( assuming there actually is one). It sure sounds like you have a marginal connection somewhere (salt air matey) that is just tipping the whole thing over when the voltage drops below a certain value. Grounds? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Any chance it might have been the North Koreans again? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
The backstory is that many shortcuts were taken, there was a problem with the blow-out preventer spewing hunks of rubber (the o-rings that were supposed to provide the seal in the event of a blow out) and yet they just kept going as we all know time is money and the perfect storm hit. The devastation to the ecology of the area will probably outlive all of us. Fisheries will be destroyed, beacby alanrw - Community Forum
Let us know how it goes. The other part is getting the black bezel off the inside door latch mechanism, It slides to the side (forgot if it is to the front or back-pretty sure it slides towards the front) but then it just pops off freeing the door panel from the inner latch mechanism. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
The motor-cable drive assembly comes out the bottom hole in the door. It takes a little wiggling, but it can be done. I think the motor can come off the channel mechanism. Try these guys for a new motor. You carefully pull the outer door top trim off (use a putty knife/big screw driver and cardboard to protect the paint and slowly wiggle the trim off. Just work from one end to the other). Once thby alanrw - Technical Forum
Does anyone have a source for factory replacement cloth seat covers for an '84 325E with the Sport Seat option in Pearl Beige? Evidently, BMW has ceased production for these parts. They used to be available at the dealer but no more. I need the upper seat back and the lower seat cushion. thanks guys alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Does anyone else have any info. on this substitution? I was wrong, my sensor is a 3 not 2 wire sensor. thanks alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, the connector is no issue, just a simple snip and splice to the old connector. Do you recall if there were any polarity issues with the connector? My O2 sensor is a 2 wire sensor. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Do you recall if there was a year, engine, model # or is it one size fits all? The Ford used a metric thread? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I think I may be in need of an o2 sensor. Wasn't it the case that a Ford Mustang O2 sensor is identical to the E30 sensor and half the price? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum

That was it, I couldn't remember which fundamental option it was. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Somebody did a write up on that, maybe on the old site? It didn't look that bad, just a series of steps. There was something about a 5 speed vs. a automatic I think. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Realize that certain circuits like the radio or clock will draw a small amount. You could set you multimeter to amps and see what is drawing enough amps to pull down the battery. It won't be the clock or radio. And oh yeah, remembering a comment by either Rick or Peter a while back, check the trunk light. Sometimes it stays on even though the trunk is shut. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Hook up a meter or test light in line between the battery ground and battery. Start pulling fuses, when the light dims or the meter shifts, you have found the circuit which is the culprit. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Excellent point. The genesis of this was a broken valve spring not a bad cylinder head. If the head wasn't warped when you took it off (which it probably wasn't) then it isn't warped now. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Bicycle pumps have integral pressure gauges and fit on schrader style valves. Check your local autoparts store, many rent/lend tools. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, they make a tool that fits over the coolant reservoir. You then pressurize it to 15 psi and see what you have. Conceivably, you could make your own with an extra coolant reservoir cap and tire valve stem' Pump it up with a bike pump and use a tire gauge to check your pressure. You drill a hole (same diam as on a wheel) and pop in the valve stem. Or make an adapter that goes from the feby alanrw - Technical Forum
Pull the plugs, pressurize the cooling system and crank it over. If coolant shoots out the plug holes, that's problem 1. If it seeps from between the head and side of the block, that's problem 2. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Time to pressurize the cooling system and see where it's coming from. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, last week, I pulled the connector off the ICV as she was running. Re-connected it and the idle stabilized. Shut her down, cleaned the connection to the ICV and she has been stable ever since. We will see...... thanks to all who responded. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
