When is father day?
Over here it was in March, 19th.
In North America, it is today.
It is traditionally held on the third Sunday in June. This year it just happened to coincide with the Summer Solstice
Yes, Happy Father's Day to Rick, Peter, Cab, Jose, Woodcutter, Ferd, and all others that I have missed! Kelly

rear subframe bushings?
Humm... I don't think I know where/what those are. Unsurprisingly it's not in the glossary of the Bentley. How might I visual inspect them?
they are directly in front of the rear wheels, one on each side, and if they haven't been replaced on your car they are probably totally shot.

Hi Kelly,
Up here, even the cheap companies aren't hiring. I can use AutoCAD but don't particularly like it. Solid Works is far superior and Pro Engineer is even above that. I have so many mechanical engineer friends that know all these programs inside and out, that are unemployed that I wouldn't have a chance with my mediocre skills.
I've pretty

Thanks for thinking of Rick and myself. I haven't had any luck in the job marked but at least I'm not in pain like Rick
Hi Archie, Let's hope you hear something soon. Not that the construction industry is flush with jobs at this time, but have you ever consideted taking an AutoCAD class? You might rea

yes, please post a photo so we know exactly what you are talking about
Hi, I placed a tin can under the lowest center point of the valence which does not seem to have an attachement method at the rear end hence the sag. There is about 1/4" between the can top and the valence.
Valence sagging same as below.
Thoughts?
Glad your feeling a tad better Rick.

Hi All,

Beemie and I are rolling along same as ever except the valence under my front bumper is haning low in the center. I looked around but did not see any missing screws, but I can look again if you like. Now I must say that the old m

glad to hear you made it out safely. the e30s are quite nimble, even in stock form.
i thought this was going to be a story about scraping the bottom of your car on the ground or something, haha.
Hi D, Yes, it would be a good title for scraping bottom. I did not think of that. The hard thing about driving in my neck of the woods is we have many visitors from all over the world.

Well done!
Aren't you glad you weren't driving an SUV?
I know my own drivers ed had an optional "extreme" (or something like that) driving hour where we got to take the car out and accelerate as hard as possible, but also brake as hard as possible, brake hard while turning, etc etc. It was invaluable, especially when the teacher told me that I should know ho

The daily drive presents its challenges. Here was mine yesterday. Left the office a little early to attend a evening event. Came very close to having a fine smash up, but Lauren (the passenger), Beemie, and I managed unscathed. I had to choose between possibly T-boning a car turning left across my travel path or a hard right turn. I chose the right turn. Only damage was my brain cells.

Hi Daniel - thanks for the loads of info. I'll give bmaparts a call.
Earendil - I had some front end work (new control arms, bushings replaced) 2 years ago - ah yes, I remember the mech's bill well. I am not sure of the tie rods' condition. Shocks are fine. We will try the wheel turning procedure that you recommend abo

Poor little Beemie was so excited when it saw the fab old cars of California Mille pass by the office today. It wanted to jump right in, but it is too young. (And might not be fabulous enough - although that is highly debatable.) Maybe a 2002 would qualify although I did not see any 2002s pass.

Hi Kids,
Thanks as always. As I said, The Bro may have been over eager. He is pursuing the IC battery replacement question - i.e. wants to have an IC back-up in the event of battery removal gone awry. Lordy, I hope not. I'm not itching to remove the batteries because now I know they are not corroding.
When I asked what he personally needed at the junk yard, he said "Oh, nothing.&q

Hi All,
Hope you are well! Does anyone know if an Instrument cluster from an 86 will work in an 89?
The Bro decided to visit is local part yard and bought a cluster from an 86. I think he may have been over eager... If it does not fit, I suppose we could sell on Ebay.
He bough some other parts as well - like 6 electric window switches, and a trunk tool tray which he described as "li

It would not surprise me one iota if cabrios had "special" leaks. I personally think the center brake light, mounted on top of the trunk cover with screws I believe, is another potential leak source. On my car, sometimes the former tool tray's foam r

Jerry Rice was a Wide Receiver
Ohhh, I knew I would mess up his job title. But the image is correct - sadly without the protective helmet, padding, and football - screaming at everyone to evacuate, one arm held defensivley forward, leaping over chairs, diving under tables, flying at the door, etc.

Beautiful. Very hard to believe it has 134k on the odo. Even a very well kept car normally shows its age by that mileage.
Dudes,
Yep, sounds like too much to me. Beemie did not cost nearly that much with 106K. It was pretty clean, but not that clean. (Although all the post-purchase mech work has increased its overall cost greatly. No regrets though.)

Here is another MP3 question. I have a iPod Nano wihch was a gift. I've also started running (well, more like jogging) recently. I'm up to 3 miles on the treadmill. Lately I've been thinking of buying some pop/R&B music for the Pod which really helps me to keep moving. I was thinking of buying and downloading single songs rather than whole albums. For the windows, the guy at the parts shop recommended a CRC Dry Glide spray for the channels. This also helped. rkj, if you could post a Window Regulator Cable Cleaning guide sometime, I'll rip the door apart one more time and at

Personally, my poor baby has seen 250+ thousand miles, and a problem I'm finding is that the wiring isn't holding up real well. I'm starting to see some really quirky behavior that is extremely hard to diagnose.

Hi Rick,
Woodctr said there was a new circ board w/o the batteries. Maybe he can chime in with the details.
Knowing there is a battery free version, when mine dies I'll probably use this version.
