So there I am at an intersection. I start to go and 2 things become apparent. The accelerator pedal feels suprisingly light and the engine isn't reving up as I might have expected. I pop the hood and have my friend hit the gas pedal but nothing happens, nothing moves. I pull the knee bolster and all I see it the pedal disconnected from the cable end. Yeah, I would definitely use a dry lube product on the window lift mechanism. It seems oil based lubes would just attract more gunk to jam up the works. I wonder if baby powder/talcom powder would work on the window rubber? It too is a dry lube. Graphite would probably make a big mess. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum

Well, at least now we know how the people on the Titanic felt. I think the issue is that if we let these companies fail, the collateral damage to the everyman will be devastating. Rampant job loss which will lead to people losing their homes, families being broken up, it will be a tidal wave. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Another part of the puzzle were all the loans with the "low introductory" 2 year low ball payment. When these loans reset, many people couldn't afford the increase in payments which contributed to many forclosures. In many cases, many unsophisticated borrowers were talked into getting loans which were way over their heads. When they asked what would happen if they couldn't afby alanrw - Community Forum

And I would hope anyone smart enough to own an E30 is also smart enough to realize that the 14th is so heavily pumped by the candy industry, the gift card industry and the retail clothing and jewelery industry!!!! We have many of those here in Los Angeles. The setup was that the cameras and collection of monies were subcontracted out to the manufacturer/installer of the systems. Unfortunately, the individual who works for the city and is supposed to monitor the influx of monies from the subcontractor to the city cofffers really wasn't doing his job. Millions of dollars of ticket fees went uncollectedby alanrw - Community Forum
Someone quipped after the Columbine tradgedy that it could never have happened here in Los Angeles. The kids would have pulled weapons out of their backpacks and it would have been a fair fight. alanby alanrw - Community Forum

People ask me why I drive a 25 year old car. My reponse is always the same. 1. It's paid for 2. I haven't found another car that performs as well as my 325E (But a cupholder would be nice-those Germans are so task oriented!!!) alanby alanrw - Community Forum

Well, they have the perfect alibi. If it is done wrong and the house blows up, where's the saving? Obviously, you diagnosed the problem and fixed but what if some dim bulb misdiagnoses it, say the fire box is also cracked and emitting CO into the air return system, the company that sold him the part could be liable. And no doubt, the company's position is that it does cost money to havby alanrw - Community Forum
Ferd, I feel your pain here which is why I always try to do as much as I can. That being said, I also understand the company's position of "safety check". If your house does blow up, last man in is responsible. It is just CYA. The repair service might even be required to do so by the insurance company that insures them. A friend lent me his Mini Cooper S for a few days while he took my E30 for some paint. I gotta say, that is one fun car!!!! Fast little bugger and corners like it is on rails. And the car itself is magic. It is bigger on the inside when you are in it than when you see it from the outside. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
