I sold mine (after it unceremoniusly/ungratefully sucked a valve after I had spent months restoring her) and bought my E30. I think my words were "sell me this car with the longest drivetrain warranty known to mankind". To give this irrational act some context, the 2002 crapped out 2 days after my '67 Porsche 912 4 banger cracked it's crankshaft in 2. It was at that point I dby alanrw - Community Forum
I still see 2002's for sale. Great, great cars. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Peter, you can join an American car forum such as Team Camaro and ask questions in the bench racing section about the S-10. There are many GM techs who are Camaro enthusiasts. There are questions all the time about daily drivers and diagnosing problems. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Character is the ability to make a hard decision even when it is not the popular decision, it is probably the right decision. Everything happens for a reason and at the end of the day, it is just a car. As my father used to say, as long as you have your health, everything else is negotiable. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, it is just like cars except you don't get any grease under your fingernails. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Yeah, but I just can't help thinking if she had won, Seabiscuit and Secretariat would have to bow to her. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Another 6 feet and she would have caught the winner!!! She loves to run but I guess she couldn't quite see the finish line or she would have taken the leader,no? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Eh, I can't believe she lost by a short nose!!! Still, a magnificent creature!!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
What do you do about device drivers? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Hmmm, I would think the fabric that the wire is embedded in is a fire resistant nomex type of fabric. If you have repaired the wire, that implies that the wire could be external of the nomex and possibly lead to something smoking/burning if inadvertant contact is made. Saying that, based on the condition of the wires in the element, I would think you will continue to chase your tail. Best move; nby alanrw - Technical Forum
Great write up Rick. But how do they do all that in 20 seconds on the factory assembly floor? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I still want to know how they get the windshield wiper motor in in under 20 seconds. It is obvious that the car has already been painted before the part goes in and the only way in or out is thru the cutout. Maybe they have fairies in the factory that fly in and magically snug the 3 mounting bolts down? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
My personal favorite on the E30 has always been the contorting knuckle busting design of the wiper motor and what it takes to get it out. Who was the sadist that came up with that one? I have always wondered how they did that on the production line as the cars came down the slot? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I was looking at the wiring diagram and it shows that the injectors are fired in 2 pairs, 1,3,5 and 2,4,6. Each hot lead to the injector banks comes off the ECU on pins 14 and 15(or something like that but definitely 2 separate leads). You said it felt like the car was hitting on only 3 cylinders until it cleared and then ran fine. Hmmmmmmm alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I looked at a couple of places and it seems the harness is a one piece affair for the entire engine. Does anyone know if the injector harness is available as a separate item? Assuming it is indeed the harness, I can check with a pal who used to be a BMW Tech. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, no doubt it is available here at the Pick-A-Part and we don't have a lot of corrosion issues here in So-Cal. Can't find the wiring loom part on Pelican but if the connector is crappy, it needs to be replaced. Rick, let me know if you want me to trudge out to the Pick-A-Part, no biggie. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Rick, what about the electrical connection to the fuel rail for the injectors, if that connector is weak, it might interfere with the injectors firing? Perhaps a quick test would be to find the connector and wrap it for the evening? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
You also have the choice to strap it to a pallet after draining the oils and shipping via motor freight. You can estimates from a freight company. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
....this is getting crazy!!!!! OK, what engine component allows moisture in but when it gets hot and the moisture is disappaited, all is well? We know it isn't ignition as you stated first try; fat blue spark at the high tension lead. Are we thinking fuel at this point? Residual fuel pressure in the fuel rail falling overnight? But it only manifests in damp weather. Hmmmm. Not electrical, aby alanrw - Technical Forum
I would think being a hanyman has a big upside. There are people out there who can't even change a light bulb and are always looking for help. If my house is like yours, there's always some project or something like a stuck shower door or a leaky faucet or toilet to fix. It never ends. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
BTW, what does code 11444 refer to? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I think the solution is obvious. The car will have to be kept inside the house. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, shelter and food come first. If the truck brings in the bacon, put insurance on it, take insurance off the IX (like when you restore a car, much cheaper if the car is off the road). Good Luck Peter alanby alanrw - Community Forum
And the compression test results would help you if the buyer wants to play games after the sale. Make sure you state "sold as is no warranties". alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
But it was Peter's magnolia tree!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
No, but if you Google Cacatus-Pexxxxx under images, you really see how nature imitates itself just like Peter's picture. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Sheesh, don't make me post the picture of the cactus!!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, does the car have the cold start injector in addition to the 6 on the cylinders? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Rick, just had a thought (no, it didn't hurt ). When you say it is hard cold starting, is it possible you are loosing fuel pressure in the injector rail from a bad valve on the fuel pump? So the cranking is lengthy because you are waiting for pressure to build so the injectors can spray? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
