Sounds like the radio was made before the ipod was invented. had the same problem with one of my radios. The ipod works just fine but the ipad is not recognized. What are you going to do with the CD changer? Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Now there was a misdirected billion or more. The energy savings of repairing and using cars already in running condition would have offset the better gas mileage of all those new cars for many years. Those cars being crushed took them out of the market for people who could not afford a new car and made used cars more expensive for poor people. All around, the whole program had the opposite ofby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
I will second the appreciation. I have had lots of great advice from you guys. I miss Ove though. He was always very helpful. Must have given up his E-30 as that is the only explanation for not being here to discuss them. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
The CD connector will be on the back of the radio. The ipod connector can be fed over into the glove compartment. If you do not want the CD changer, I might be able to use it if it fits the stock radio. My CD changer went haywire a couple of years ago. Let me know, Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
The expense of replacing a near new belt would work on my penny pinching heart too. But think ahead and think how much it will postpone the next change that comes along sooner than you expect. The delay of that change for the year or so that it brings may be worth it. I like things to stay fixed as long as possible. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
And a Happy New Year to all from Everett. E-30s forever. Everyone should have several of them. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Good work on getting it working. It is so gratifying to be able to get in and go when the weather is bad. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I had one of those sunroofs with a crank a while back but do not remember what held the handle up there. Seemed to be it snapped into something. Can you wrap the handle with some colored electrical tape that matches the headliner color and tighten up the fit? Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Thanks Peter. And a very happy New Year to you. I hope your work situation improves soon. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
The tranny from several years will fit. Just have to be careful that the drive shaft length is matched for the new one you get. If you get a chance might want to measure the length of the one from the car you get it from. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
The compression is ok. There is less than 10% difference. I have checked mine a few times over the years and one cylinder might be low and next time it is a different one. Technique and valve wear variation could be the reason. What the info tells you is that the head gasket is ok and no valve problems that take $1000 to fix. If I did not already have two E-30s I would want an iX myself.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Good price for the car!! The tranny replacement will cost $200 to $500 depending on who has one and how bad they want to get rid of it. I am assuming manual...I saw an automatic for $100 on some site just last week. Several folks around the Seattle have parted out some of these cars. You will not regret buying this wonderful car. A salvage fan motor is the way to go. A new one is very expensive. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
They have an illuminated ring around the lamp...you probably do not want them. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Matt. The cars came with the lights. Or at least some lights...those you had could possibly have been aftermarket replacement but the stock ones work so well I have not seen any that were not stock on these cars. Too bad they went into the trash. If they were the stock version, would have been worth a few dollars in usable shape. Bobby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
I have not bought a car that had less than 100k miles on them for about 30 years with just one exception for the spousal units E-38. It was only 61k miles and 8 years old. Have had great luck but the key is that maintenance by the little old lady. I mostly do maintenance myself on my fleet of old cars. But one does need more than one so you don't have to ride a bicycle to the auto paby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Matt, What did you do with those lights that hang below the bumper. I need a lens for one of mine. I use them on rainy nights so I can see the pavement. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
With American Modern it appears that 20 years is the demarcation between old and new. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Matt, Just be careful with all the wet pavement. Don't want to get an premature wrinkles in that nice car. I had let my tire pressure get low by not paying attention to them for a few months and it started to get a little tail happy. Now that I have the snow tires on it is more normal. If you do go for snow tires you will probably want to have them front and back as they are a lot softeby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
There are at least a couple of companies that do it. Haggarty's is one, I think the name of the one I use is American Modern Insurance Group in Cincinnati, Ohio. There are some restrictions on usage and mileage and not to be left unattended for extended periods of time. Bob in Everett.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
These cars are so old that if you own another car that is newer, the E30 can be insured as an antique with limited miles driven for about 150 a year. Has to be kept in a garage though. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
100% in agreement. Have two of them. The first car I have ever owned that was built to go faster than I was willing to drive. Fairly economical too. Parts are cheaper than Honda parts. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
The main point they ignored until the final go round is that the (Washington state law maybe) policy states that the estimated value must be established in the local market where you live. Here in the Seattle area there is a huge following for E30s and in good condition they bring about twice what they do in flat land markets. The comps for my insurance company were from two other states and hby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum

Those "rusty" bolts might have copper nuts on them. Which means that they may come off. Did you get a replacement to go back with if they do come off? Would not want to be out of commission waiting on parts. New copper nuts are recommended but I did reuse mine when I replaced my muffler. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Probably missed some rubber bumpers it is supposed to set on. There should be some on each side. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Matt, This site is helpful to identify parts for your E30. Bob in Everettby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
might try patching it with some muffler patch kit from the auto parts store. Cost is about $5. Works for a few months at a time. I nursed mine along for almost a year while I tried to find a replacement. Keep your eye out for someone parting out a similar car on the BMW club websites. Bob in Everett These guys have parted out several cars and may have something for you.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
It is probably some bad ground wire for the last item. I almost did my car in with forgetting to connect the ground to the engine. Caused a high current in some much smaller grounds for other stuff and some smoke came out of a wire bundle near the battery. The other problems may be an easy fix if you can find a pinched wire somewhere that has intermittently been touching some worn bare spot inby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
