Usually installing XP after installing Ubuntu tends to break things. Windows doesn't like to share the same computer. o Generally, you'd want to install XP first then Ubuntu. Your boot loader might have been corrupted. Try to restore grub:by Ernest - Community Forum
Yes it really is that simple. However, I found on some networks, I still have to tweak the samba config file a bit. Just changing the order of the name resolve order to "; name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host " does wonders. You might need Winbind too. These are all backup plans in case the simple right click and share won't work on the first time. Once everything is sby Ernest - Community Forum
Yes. "Sudo" basically gives you admin privileges for a short period. It will prompt you for your password when you enter the command. I have to add: "gedit" opens the graphical text editor. It's similar to "notepad" in Windows. "nano" opens the command line editor. It's similar to editing txt files inside the Windows Command Prompt.by Ernest - Community Forum
By the way, if you are using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, I had to do this for the Windows computers to see my shares: Open a terminal and type "sudo gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf" If you don't have a GUI installed (server edition) type "sudo nano /etc/samba/smb.conf" then press enter. You will see a configuration file. Find the line that says: # What naming service and in whatby Ernest - Community Forum
Hi Cab! Just saw this thread here when I read your Buzz. I replied there. I hope you got things working. I prefer using the desktop version if it's just for home use. It's not even that resource heavy. On idle I only eat around 250MB or so of RAM even with my fully 3D desktop environment: (LARGE PICTURE!!!) I'm pretty sure if you keep it to the bare minimum, you woby Ernest - Community Forum
I had a couple of parts in storage at home but after a recent renovation, I am now missing those parts. Most importantly, I am missing the cover that goes over the passenger seat recliner lever (or whatever that's called). Can anyone point me to a good source online for this missing piece? I'll also need the fastening screw that goes with it. Thanks!by Ernest - Community Forum
I'm not sure about the reliability of the source but yesterday, WikiLeaks published classified documents on the war in Afghanistan: Should be an interesting read.by Ernest - Community Forum
For such a major ecological disaster, we barely got news of it here in the Philippines.... I'm really hoping they find a solution to this. But so far, they don't seem to have a clue on how to fix this and one failure lead to another. I cringe at the thought of the havoc this will continue to cause in the future.by Ernest - Community Forum
Thanks! I might drop by the shop where the car is at on Monday. I'll try to get photos there too.by Ernest - Community Forum
I'm late. Happy Birthday PAC-MAN! If you missed it, Google had a playable PAC-MAN game as their logo for a few days. Seems people liked it so they restored the page at .by Ernest - Community Forum
That's really nice. Too bad it's Window's only. I'm using this screensaver on my Linux PCs at home and at work. It basically takes CPU activity while your PC is idle from everyone who has this installed and combines them all into a visual representation. It's kinda like seeing your computer's dreams if they ever did dream.by Ernest - Community Forum
Just received some pictures of my seats from the re-upholsterer. Here they are: Driver's seat Passenger seat The fabric on used on the bolster and headrests are by Recaro while the center lighter section is a more generic fabric. The rear seats are done in a similar way but they aren't finished yet. The pictures were taken using a mobile phone and the seats themselvesby Ernest - Community Forum

How is everyone doing? I miss my car. Brought it into the shop sometime last year only to have problems procuring parts. Than that huge typhoon hit and my car got submerged until just below the radio. Work is finally resuming on it again. Took out the seats now to be reupholstered last week. A friend picked the fabric for me. He picked a black Recarro fabric for the bolsters and a grby Ernest - Community Forum
This worries me. My brother just got himself a Toyota Altis (Corolla) early last year and I am not sure if this car was affected by the potential steering issue currently being investigated now at the US. Funny how Toyota always had the reputation of being very reliable (at least here in my country). As far as the electronics go, I find the amount of actual control removed from the driver onby Ernest - Community Forum
Haha nice find! I'll be one of the critics and say it's from China. The writings on the banners at the background resemble Chinese more than Japanese. The drivers could very well be Japanese though.by Ernest - Community Forum
Nah e30s came in left-hand drive in Japan and most (if not all) of the 6-cylinder variants had automatic transmissions. My e30 was a Japan-spec e30.by Ernest - Community Forum
Thank you for your replies! I am not sure what the percentages are in our country. Water in the fuel is definitely a concern. At least now I have a bit more confidence that I wouldn't have much problems with ethanol. Cheers!by Ernest - Technical Forum
Hello everyone! From what I know, the E30 wasn't exactly made to take fuel mixed with ethanol. Right now a law was passed in our country requiring all fuels to be 10% ethanol. I'm looking to replace whatever components I should be replacing to allow my car to use the fuel. From what I know, fuel lines need to be replaced with lines of a different compound. What else should I be lby Ernest - Technical Forum
Thanks Rick! I'll have the shop look into that. With any luck, I hope we won't find any more rust or corrosion damage. A big bonus here is that we do not have winter hence no road salts. However, the car did get flooded up to the center console when the storm hit. I'm not sure if I'll find any water damage on the lower parts of the car. The good news is so far most oby Ernest - Community Forum
Thanks Rick! Thanks for the tip about the load bearing stuff. I'll be sure to check on those. What exactly is a pick hammer test? I'm taking my time with the build but I'll try to get pictures when I can.by Ernest - Community Forum
Hi Peter, Thankfully my house is on high ground. It was flooded a kilometer or so away from my house and I did not even know about it until I went out. I have a nasty habit of not checking the news. The heavy rains happened in the morning and I slept right through it so I was surprised at how bad the floods got. I did have relatives and friends that got struck by the flood. Hello everyone! It's been a while. I lost the link to this forum but thanks to Ove, I found you guys again! So how is everyone? I hope everyone is doing well and I hope your e30's are still going strong. It's really nice to see some old friends are still active here. Hello Peter, Rick, Cab and Bob! The technical specifications of the different E30's are in my club site: . Now that we have a new site running here, I wonder if we can create content for ? I was hoping we could turn it into some sort of repository of BMW e30 articles, fixes and other information.by Ernest - Community Forum

Hello everyone! I made it here too. Thanks Cab for pointing me this way. It's sad what happened to BEN. Had I known earlier I could have offered you guys webspace. I currently have an unlimited space and bandwidth account that I'm using just for my club site. If ever you guys need a host for BENN again, just let me know.by Ernest - Community Forum
