It is Pete, never touched it at all, but did check to see that the little vacum hose was still on, all is good there.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Ferdi, it is, I even clipped it loose and re seated it, just because, didn't know what else to do, I pulled the hood, radiator, fan timing cover, dizzy and tappet cover to do the cam change. The only two things electrical I touched were the temp sensor in the side of the radiator, and cleaned the pickup face of the position sensor while the pulley was off. Jus wiped the oil and grime offby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Ok, I mentioned in my canbelt thread that the new cam, rockers and lifters went in today But when it came time to start...nada. I thought I would move this part of the topic to its own thread, for the benifit of those who are having similar issues and won't really look at a cam change thread. Alright, so on start up, the motor fires once or twice, then nada, nothing, bugger all, just cby Flyboy - Technical Forum
If I throw fuel into the intake pipe, between the manifold and the air flow meter, it fires right up, and then dies, as the fuel is all used up. Maybe the in tank pump, or the pump relay? Where is the fuel pump relay situated, I may swop it out with one of the other relays to check it before throwing three grand I don't have at a pump.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Ok, so today the new cam, rockers and lifters went in, no stress, no fuss, was done by lunch time. When I tried to start it, it sort of fired once or twice, then nothing, just cranks over and does not even attempt to fire. Check everything over, pull a plug lead and check for spark, checks out fine, not strong but it has spark, pull the distributor cap again, check that all that is inside is gby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Awesome Peter, I am really glad for you, I really hope it works out for you, hey at least it stops the bleeding and gives you the chance to regroup. This is karma at work, you have given so much to this little BMW community, it's time for you to recieve a bit of goodness back. I wish you all the best in your new venture.by Flyboy - Community Forum
QuoteEventually I'd like to get a head unit in the car that would receive a usb flash drive so I could have all my music on a few flash drives and leave the cds at home. Rick, no need to spend the extra cash, you get those little gadgets that plug into the cigar lighter and accept a stick and transmit on the FM band, so the music plays through your current car radio. I bought one a whileby Flyboy - Community Forum
Hi Rick You can put pretty much whatever you like onto the second drive, but it will require a bit of work on your part, obviously stand alone stuff like pics and documents and the like you can just cut and paste over, but if you want to move actual programs across, you will need to uninstall the program and then reinstall it, pointing it to the second drive when it promps you to select the locaby Flyboy - Community Forum
QuoteAn e30 sounds like a good midlife crisis car, but I'd be happy if there are still e30s around in a decade or two. I have no doubt there will be, e30s will still be around on the roads long after all the new plastic cars have been recycled into Bic pens. Well, I know mine will, it better last another 20years, I can't afford a new car.by Flyboy - Community Forum
Probably part of the reason the American economy is in a spiral dive, America has always been a disposable society, buy something, use it for a short while, a car, maybe for a few years, then chuck it and buy a new one, which was great and worked very well, it kept people in jobs, the money kept circulating and things were relatively cheap, due to the vast quantities they were produced in, whichby Flyboy - Community Forum
Only until he hits midlife crisis, then he will be back, probably with questions and advice on a newly aquired e30 convertable no less, I will probably see him on the bike forum too then.by Flyboy - Community Forum
Thanks guys, I will replace the belt, to be on the safe side, although I know that when I take it off, it will be like brand new, I was always taught that if you remove a cambelt, it should be replaced, regardless of milage done or age, I just wanted to try and see if someone could explain the logic to me, as I said, it has done about 10 000Km, if that, and what is the recommended interval for chby Flyboy - Technical Forum
They say that on New Years eve a fairy visits. With a single smack of her wand, she can fill your new year with happiness, good fortune and prosperity. I hope she beat the sh*t out of all of you.by Flyboy - Community Forum
I am in full agreement with that, many, many thanks to Dave, this place is my BMW bible, and the good folk around here, my gurus, I would be lost without it. And a nicer bunch of on line friends, a person could not wish for. There is a special place in heaven for your sort Dave, take a bow.by Flyboy - Community Forum
Hi All, I trust everyone had a peaceful and blessed Christmas, and all my best wishes to everyone for the new year, may it be filled with joy and prosperity. Ok, so this year Santa came bearing BMW gifts, in the form of a new camshaft, rockers and lifters for the little 318i, so hopefully I will get rid of the valvetrain noise that has been driving me scatty. So this weekend or next I will beby Flyboy - Technical Forum

Hi All I just know this is going to sound like dumbest question ever to grace this fine board, but I really do not know. I am busy shopping around for a new headlamp, as my got taken out by a piece of truck retread that came off a truck on the freeway a while ago, the outer, lowbeam one. Yesterday a woman from the car spares place phones me to ask if I want/need the Angel Eye headlight...???by Flyboy - Technical Forum
I don't know about the States, or Canada, but here, you could not get the lower fog lamps for the e30 as an after market, sure you get something similar, that sort of kind of looked the same, but you could see straight off it was not OEM, so I would rather do without them. But the actual Hella units used by BMW, were just not available, period, then I found out why...BMW did a deal with Helby Flyboy - Community Forum
I'm with the crowd on this one, I think that the rear OEM spoiler is very understated and stylish, not Blingy at all, wish my car had one.by Flyboy - Community Forum
I get so jealous when I hear you guys grumble about the prices of cars and bikes over that side of the pond.:frown: Quotebut for 45,000 bucks, it should have something going on! $ 65 500.00 for the bargin basement model A5 here, with bugger all extras at all, a tricked out one with all the optional extras will set you back $ 98 400.00 And this is the base price, before finance and you can workby Flyboy - Community Forum
Hi Super, nah, I wish that was what I drive, but one day...one day, I have a humble little 318i daily driver, we never got the e30 M3 in this country, so BMW South Africa made up for it by producing our own fire breathers, the 333i which had the 3.2l motor from the 735i shoe horned under the bonnet and the 325i EVO II, which ran with the 2.7 litre Alpina B3 motor, both are highly collectable now,by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Sounds like you have propshaft issues there, either the center bearing or the guibo. Get under the car and remove the plates that protect the propshaft so you can get to it, give it a good tug, and bets are you will find it has a lot of play at the center bearing or the guibo which is letting it slap from side to side instead of turning true around its axis. The propshaft on these things is twoby Flyboy - Technical Forum

I believe Cab is right, you have to tap the brakes, so it can check the bulbs, if there is no continuity through one of the lights, due to a blown bulb, then the warning light will stay on.by Flyboy - Community Forum
The one on my '91 318i (M40) has been broken off since I got the car, and and in all the years I have had it, I have never had any running problems, I consistantly get 13km/litre or 7.6 litres per 100km, which seems right about the book figure, so, no I doubt it has any adverse effect on fuel consumption.by Flyboy - Technical Forum

Hi all I would go with the diff clunking away back there, as has been said, they do it with age, mine does it as well, but it does not worry me, those things are built like Sherman tanks inside, they will never break and leave you on the side of the road, so I just drive it, mine is a 4.11:1 ratio and those are pretty hard to come by here, as the guys scoop them up pretty quick when they do comeby Flyboy - Technical Forum
