What choices do I have? I called a place called "suspension source" that I saw on ebay. They have cheap springs($80) probably from China, but they told me the springs for the coupe/sedan are completely different and they do not have the vert springs. I will do some research but I figured you guys probably know more than the stores that sell the stuff. Thanksby Art Munson - Technical Forum
So you have 15v at the battery when the engine is warm and the idle is low? Lights/heater fan/radio on or off? Is battery old? Are you sure the battery terminals are clean and tight.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
Sold the Fiat a couple weeks ago! So I am now driving my car daily. I figured out my "surging idle" problem. It was simply the stop screw on the throttle valve. It was holding the throttle valve open a bit too much, re-adjusted it and "all is well". Hopefully I will have some time to start working on the car soon.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
I had the same problem. Mine was simply the stop screw on the throttle valve. Just make sure its adjusted properly, it might be opened a little too much. Back the stop screw out so the butterfly shuts all the way on its own then use the screw to keep it open just a bit so it wont jam shut. I wouldn't doubt it if you have the same problem I had.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks Alan, I am now driving my '79 Fiat Spider until it sells then I will bring the BMW back out to drive it again, so it may be a while before I worry about the issue. I do have the good manual so I am sure it spells it out well. Once I am back to driving the car again I will certainly be posting more questions.....and I will learn to post more pictures. I didn't take any pictures when I did the repair. It is very straight forward, just need to remove all the screws(7?) and it comes right off. Once off you will see where you need to put silicone. No need to pull any foam off because there are holes where the 4 screws are-its the other three closer to the window that hid from me.The weather is much cooler here lately so I probably wont do anyby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks Alan, How do I test the sensor? My car is a 1989 325ic auto. I guess they all have the m20 right?by Art Munson - Technical Forum
Hello, I am sure this has been discussed before. Sorry to post without looking for previous discussions. My car has been Idling a little weird when first starting up but then fine after a few miles/minutes. At first I thought the computer just needed to re-learn since it has been inop for 2yrs. But now I am thinking sticky IACV.It idles about 1100 when first start up cold surging only minor amouby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks for the responses. I will put that on my list of things to do. Wow! That list is getting llllllooooonnnnnnnggggg!!!! Artby Art Munson - Technical Forum
I found it !!!! It made me smile when i figured it out because it was by accident that I found it. I have been a motorcycle mechanic(usually service manager) for half of my working adult life, I'm 48 yo now. I have always told other mechanics when they are "wracking their brains out" trying to figure out a problem...."ITS ALWAYS SOMETHING SIMPLE" Well tonight I pulledby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Yea, once again the easy way out...I looked in my manual for about 2 minutes and I couldn't find anything to show me how to remove the brake light assembly because yes, it was leaking into the trunk, I removed the obvious 4 screws but overlooked the other three that are not behind the foam but further forward near the edge. So I googled "third brake light removal bmw 325IC" and Bby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Awesome! I love this site! I can be lazy and just ask you guys stuff and you tell me right where to go! How cool is that! Thanks Alan! Artby Art Munson - Technical Forum
3 times in the last 2 weeks I have heard a "boom" that sounds like it is coming from the right rear quarter panel area. Gas tank???? Yikes!! The first time I heard it I thought someone threw something at the car. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any good guesses? Thanks, Art 1989 325ICby Art Munson - Technical Forum
The on board computer works great but the display is very dim. I also have no lights on the right side of the heater controls. I will look at this soon but it is always nice to get some directions from you experts. 1989 325IC. Thanks, Artby Art Munson - Technical Forum
That's what I was afraid of.....need to take it back apart.....messy silicone!by Art Munson - Technical Forum
I removed the third brake light from my '89 325ic today to seal it up. I noticed after putting it back together that it gets real hot where the bulb is.( had my foot on the brake for maybe 30 seconds) It has actually discolored a "quarter sized" spot in the paint. Is this a common problem? Do I need to install a different bulb? I just sealed it up! Thanks, Artby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thank you for your thoughts. I was thinking the same thing. I don't like to do things unless they are done right anyway. I do feel ok about it for now though, I sealed it up pretty good with the good black silicone and wrapped it tight with 3 separate strands of safety wire so it can't completely "pop-out" only start to leak. I have been watching it closely and so far not a siby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks for your responses. I have not yet called the dealership to see if this part is available and it does not look like the part that has been circled is the elbow. I have a feeling the dealership will not be able to get a new one so I will have to do a better job "mickey mouse"ing it. I also have a question about a small part I cant figure out where it went, it is a small blackby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Ok. seems very easy. I am going to post a pic or two,of the car when I bought it in 09,to see if it works. I will take a couple new pics tomorrow and post them too. I don't have any pics of the elbow but it is on the bottom of the thermo housing and the hose runs up to the throttle body.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
Can someone tell me how to post pics?by Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks guys. I did put some silicone on it and tightly wrapped 3 strands of safety wire around the housing and elbow. I think it will work for a while but will want to get a new one soon. Thanks, Artby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Wow! I am excited! I bought this car in 3/09??? P.O. never did the timing belt,so you know what happened. I have had many interruptions but did just get it running again yesterday! It is an 89 325ic, black on black w/only 116k, it is an automatic and I really wanted a manual so I bought all the stuff to convert it....we'll see if that ever happens. Anyway....I do have a technical questioby Art Munson - Technical Forum
I should have said "engine".... "motor" is electric.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks for your help. I will look closer at the site after work. Mine is the M20 single cam motor.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
OK. Received my Bentley manual the other day.($43 from amazon) and also bought a cool book called e30 restoration bible. Both books will be very helpful when I take the time to read them. I did put the head back together today and didn't feel like the Bentley manual was much help. I had to call a fellow e30 guy (thanks Steve!) for advice. I don't know about the rest of you but putting tby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Manual should be here in a few days. I looked at the parts and I probably don't really need the "better" manual but I guess since I wont be able to work on it till next Thurs...its worth the money to have it. Thanks everyone for the good advice. Will let you know how it goes and once I get started on this car I will probably be posting about a few other things(at least for a year oby Art Munson - Technical Forum
Thanks, I have the Chilton's manual and have spent a few minutes looking for the help I need....I must be an idiot cause I can't find it in here. Oh well, its not like I haven't put an engine or two together without the help of a manual. I just hope I get some time to work on it today.by Art Munson - Technical Forum
ok, nothing like waiting till the last minute. I took the engine apart 2 years ago. I am hoping to start putting it back together this morning. I thought I could find a link real quick to help me remember where everything goes. I found a good "step by step w/pictures" on timing belt replacement but could not find something on re-assembling the head. Just the cam/rockers mainly. Any tipsby Art Munson - Technical Forum
