A1 - Landon Road Starts here: http://g.co/maps/xfywf The first half of this short stage is used the night before as the Shakedown stage. We're allowed to run the Shakedown stage as many times as we like during the hour and a half that it is open for use. We managed to line up and get in 5 runs between trying different tires and setups on Friday night. Not all of the 60 teams enteredby Ferdinand - Community Forum
I bought a new HD GoPro camera! There's good news and bad news. The good news is that the GoPro is awesome! The image quality is amazing. It's mounted in a waterproof case, is small and lightweight, is virtually indestructible, and has no cables attached so it can be mounted anywhere. The bad news is that, with no cables attached and shooting in highest quality HD mode, the batteby Ferdinand - Community Forum

Quotesdp#2: The Guibo and Center bearing mount blew out recently. We replaced it maybe 5 years ago? How long should they last? The original lasted about 15 years. Someone here posted about a new guibo blowing out after a very short period. There was talk about it being installed incorrectly/reversed... arrow in wrong direction. I looked at the new guibo and the only arrows were at the holes showiby Ferdinand - Technical Forum

To get at the fan you have to go through the back of the engine compartment. There is a panel centred on the firewall, behind the engine. Just lift up the rubber hood seal along the rear edge of the engine compartment, then you might have to undo two plastic nuts that hold a cable bracket crossing behind the engine, then four(?) screws hold the panel in place. With that panel removed you canby Ferdinand - Technical Forum
Quote325ibimmergirl A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that my heater would make a LOUD buzzing sound if I had it on level 2, 3 or 4 (whether it was on the vent, my face or feet). Now after running it like crazy, the heat won't work at all! Could it be something as simple as a leaf or a twig stuck in the blower fan? QuoteMiloGoogle told me that the 5mm allen on the body was a rich/lean adjuster, it was all the way down (clockwise) to the stop...is that bad? [...] I'm back to my assumption that I need a shop with an exhaust sniffer to diagnose it. Do NOT mess with any adjustment screws, or you will definitely need an exhaust sniffer to fix it later. Quoterkj I would look at your wiper track under that black cover on the AFM. I think we have a sticky for it here somewhere. See this article: http://www.the944.com/afm.htm The black plastic cover on the AirFlow Meter is glued down and can be pried off. Just be sure to seal it up properly again with some silicone sealer when you're done.by Ferdinand - Technical Forum

QuoteBob in Everett Ok, I have frequent indications for the brake light myself. Just to be clear on this, my problem was with the tail lights not the brake lights. But the theory is similar for both. Bob I'm sure you already know this, but just in case, the brake light warning comes on automatically every time you start the car and should switch off the first time you depress the brake pby Ferdinand - Technical Forum
QuoteBob in Everett got the box loose but could not easily remover the connector. It appeared to be held on with some plastic tabs under the lead in wire bundle. Tried to get it off but was concerned about breaking it. I used a couple of small flat-bladed screwdrivers to ease the tabs back while pulling the plug out. QuoteBob in Everett Ok, I have frequent indications for the brake light myself. I could not find anything in the Bentley manual on how to take the circuit board out of the panel. How does it come apart? The check panel box just pulls straight out of the console. You see the two raised bumps along the top edge of the white box in this image? There are two more along the bottom edge as well.by Ferdinand - Technical Forum
Quote"The rule of thumb is that the arrow shows which way the mounting bolts are pushed through the flex disc." The red arrow in this photo points at the moulded arrow. Each bolt runs through its own metal sleeve moulded into the rubber guibo. Obviously without a metal sleeve the rubber would just be crushed as the bolt is tightened. All along I was convinced there was something wrong inside the tail light assembly. It was really starting to bug me that I couldn't find what was causing the problem. I only thought of looking inside the Overhead Check Panel itself when the unrelated problem of the failed Oil Warning LED popped up. I still don't understand what caused that other solder joint to fail. The LEDs nevby Ferdinand - Technical Forum
Pelican Parts has a tech article on replacing the guibo/flex disk. see http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/E36-Guibo/E36-Guibo.htm Figure 14 and 15 in that article show the arrow moulded into the side of the guibo. Furthermore, while I was in there, I fixed a second problem with the overhead check panel. The other day while I was driving along, suddenly the check light started flashing again in my instrument cluster. I suspected the usual recurring false alarm about the tail lights, so I reached up to the overhead check panel to see which warning LED is lit and to push the "CHECK" buttonby Ferdinand - Technical Forum
I've had a really annoying issue with my tail lights for over a year now. The overhead check panel randomly comes up with a warning telling me that one of my tail lights is burned out, except it's not. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it. The lights are working fine. It's not even like going over a bump sets it off. I can be sitting idling at a stop and suddenlyby Ferdinand - Technical Forum
If the mirrors are working, then you already know the K7 relay is okay and that's not the problem. If you press the A/C button, or the Recirc button on the heater control panel and the button lights up, then you also know that Fuse-20 is good and there is power coming through. It sounds like you will need to have a closer look at the blower motor itself. It's not that difficult.by Ferdinand - Technical Forum
Finish First order of business, an emergency, we desperately need to stop for another swim! On the dusty transit out we stop at the Sturtevant Pond and jump in for a refreshing dip. I guess we should have put the OK sign out because several other teams, noticing our car abandoned on the side of the road, stopped to check if we were alright. Nobody joined us in the swim though. SS11 - Sturtevant Out, 12.33 miles There were a lot of hurtin' cars waiting at the turnaround. We've joined the ranks of the walking wounded. Lots of cars with their hood up, crews scrambling to find wire to tie up dragging exhaust systems, changing flat tires, or pouring more oil through their leaking gearboxes. SS10 - Fish Pond In, 13.13 miles If I were superstitious, which I'm not, should I be worried that this stage is 13.13 miles long? Double thirteen has to be an unlucky number, no? SS8 - Sturtevant Pond Long, 19.38 miles (31.2 km) This is a huge stage, the longest of the event, starting out fast, then with some brutal rough portions, again some wide open fast portions, then a very twisty technical fun section past the hundreds of spectators to the finish.
