Something is wrong, there is no woodruf key as such, there is a slot machined into the camshaft and the "key" is machined in as part of the timing gear. Can be seen better here.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Understood, obviously one can not compare it to track applications, realistically, road driving is generally within pretty much the same parameters, one is not going to go flat out around a traffic circle 10 times, navigating a traffic circle is no more than navigating a chicane or bend in the road in real terms, and yes I agree, driving through town in the rain is different to sitting on the supby Flyboy - Technical Forum
A bit late, but here is my zim 2c worth. Jose, I have been looking into this for a very long time, there are as many tire pressure recommendations as there are opinions, ask six people, you will get six answers, the figures in the manual are a good compromise, and valid only for the tires as fitted standard OEM, many other factors come into play as well, driving style, road surface etc, etc. Thby Flyboy - Technical Forum
It is my experience that these Bosch Motronic systems are bullet proof, they don't fail. Every issue I ever get with my car, the first words,...."bloody fuel injection system" Only to poke around and find the Motronic free of blame, always something else, I would put in a new set of plug leads, just for sh*ts and giggles. There is a thread here somewhere on hard starting that Iby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Guys, just some feedback, late I know, but better than none. Yep, wire from the reverse light switch was shorting out where it entered the car at the gear lever tunnel. May thanks all.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi All Been a while, between computer issues and general life getting in the way, as well as spending all my spare time and cash, rebuilding my faithful Suzuki GS1000G, so I can relieve my faithful 318 from her duty as daily driver and spend some much needed time on her giving her the love she deserves, to bring her back to her former glory. Her 470 000Km and daily duties with minimal maintenaby Flyboy - Technical Forum

Ferd, it's a '91 318i, although according to Real OEM the correct diagrams show it as a '90, probably a '90, registered in '91by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Bam, we don't have it here, so like Jose, I have never used it, but I am on a few forums for cars and bikes and I have heard nothing but good things about it, not once have I heard any negative comment, but I am sure the guys will jump in with thier personal experiences. Jose, all the electrics are good, like your Citroen, she is just getting old and showing her age now.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Bob, here is what I think, based on what I have read here so far. If you are sure that you don't have an external leak, i.e visible puddles on the floor, I believe you may have a head gasket issue, where there is seepage between a cylinder and a water Chanel, however, the water will not be drawn into the engine, hence no vapour out the exhaust and no "steam cleaned" plugs. Thanks Bob, I really needed that,,,hahahaha one more electronic gremlin and it is getting a set of 40DCOE Webers, whether it likes it or not. No Idea how to access codes or interpret them, so strike out there, I would give a kingdom for a case of Seafoam, you lot sure are blessed over that side of the pond. But I hear what you are saying, any idea which sensor would have timing input. TPS or cby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Jose, yes, while the headlights are open, it is a good idea to clean the insides well, not sure how you buff up sandblasted glass, I have tried to restore the lenses by polishing and buffing, with not too much success, the new lenses are day and night difference. Pete, yes, I did straighten the body work, but because I was on the clock and needed the car Monday morning, I didn't want to strby Flyboy - Technical Forum
On my home on Friday arvie, due to a combination of me driving with my head up my ass and some twatwaffle who pushed in front of me into a one car gap in my lane and then hits the brakes, I end up ploughing into the back of his piece of sh1t Renault Scenic. So I assess the damage, kidney is lying in the road, valence behind the bumper is pushed back and firmly against the aircon fan, both griby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Guys Need your wisdom with regards to my little 318i M40, all of a sudden, out of the blue it has started to detonate under moderate load, WTF???? Isn't there supposed yo be a knock sensor to stop misbehaviour like this? So here is the low down, motor has 400K on it, and is getting tired now, uses quite a bit of oil, of which I have no doubt it is drinking a fair amount of it, althoughby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Guys, I trust you are all well. Please can someone tell me exactly where this resistor block sits, and how does one get to it? My first three speeds of my blower fan are not working, and I have no doubt it is the resistor block that needs cleaning. I gather it sits under under the vent panel just in front of the windscreen or somewhere, from what I have read, have looked under the black plaby Flyboy - Technical Forum
A gallery installation at the BMW meusem in Munich uses metal balls raised and lowered from the ceiling to mimic BMW’s 90 year history of car shapes. I'm curious about its mechanical and electronic gadgetry. Facinating and very cool. http://www.curbly.com/users/diy-maven/posts/4771-bmw-s-kinetic-sculptureby Flyboy - Community Forum
Over here, on a clean model e30, a complete original tool kit is very sought after and a big bargining point during the sale, a car with a complete, original tool kit will easily fetch 2000 - 3000 ZAR more than the identical car without. Even better if it also has the original, portable flashlight in the glovebox.by Flyboy - Community Forum

Bob, that was just a thumb suck, I paid ZAR 400 for mine and just worked on an exchange of 10:1 $/ZAR, not BMW stuff, I bought Bougi Cord. But then again, the minister of fun does work for an auto parts outlet, and I get the stuff t staff price, which is like cost +10%, so I doubt you are being fleeced.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Ok, as promised, for your edification and perusal, here is the one week feed back report. The little 318i is my daily driver, and I do an average of 70km a day to the airport and back, a mix of highway driving and traffic, pretty much 50/50. Not once in the last week, since putting in the new HT leads and plugs has she refused to start at the first turn of the motor, and settles immediately iby Flyboy - Technical Forum
QuoteBob in Everett I took the snow tires off Saturday and within two hours it started snowing, it continued for three hours. Hahahahaha, ain't that always just the way.......by Flyboy - Technical Forum
It would seem so Al. I am cautiously optimistic, this coming week will be the acid test. I will let you guys know all the findings at the end of the week.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
No Bob, I didn't because; 1. Couldn't be bothered 2. Rotor is new and cap cleaned from last belt change not too long ago. 3. She ran so sweetly and started so easily after the plug and HT lead change, I figured it was not required.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Ok, so here is the low down on the new plugs and HT leads. Fitted them this morning, car fired right up from cold, took it for a good run out on the freeway to get it up to running temp and then parked it for half and hour or so, then went to see if it would give it's usual hot start troubles, nada, nothing, fired straight up at the first turn of the motor. Turned it off and tried again, sby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Guys Mine has been getting gradually worse, taking longer and longer to start, to the point where it is now starting to display the same symptoms when cold and being impossible when hot. Yesterday, on my way to work, I got a flat tire and pulled off to fit the spare. The 10 or so minutes it took me to fit the spare made it impossible to start again, I ended up abandoning the car and using Sby Flyboy - Technical Forum

Mmmmmm, it is frustrating, I know, as I said, I have the same problem, I am sure it is temp related somehow, just wondering, although you said you have checked the values on the temp sender unit, (200 ohms cold, 3000 ohms hot are the values you should be getting) maybe for sh1ts and giggles, next time you have a hot start coming up, disconect the plug off the temp sender then try and start and seby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Jeeeez Bob, I wish I could point you in the right direction, because mine has the same hard starting issue when hot, when cold, starts no problem, once she is hot and stood a while, she battles to start, like she is flooding, I have to hold my foot flat on the accelerator and just jeep cranking until she fires up. Hi Onager, yes thanks, I have those diagrams, and they are invaluble, as you say. The problem seemed to disapear of its own accord I guess cars are female after all...... Hi Guys, long time, hope everyone is well. Just like to throw my 2c into the ring, if I may, there are so many misconceptions about polish and wax and a shine on paintwork. Clear coat is what gives te car it's shine, the base colour goes on and dries to a matt finish, the clear coat brings out the shine, so it serves two purposes, makes the paint shine and protects the base colour.
