Quotewodcutr Holy smokes I found this new forum. I have been having withdrawl symptoms since the old site was routed to that russian website. Quotedaniel since i have felt like i've indirectly been taking some flack for having bigger brakes on my car, i would like to reiterate the fact that, when doing the e36 5-lug conversion, one must use the brakes from the e36 m3. Since they are already on the car, I might as well keep them. I don't think there is much arguing that they are superior to other e36 brakes regardless of theby Archeo-peteriX - Community Forum
QuoteCab Treadway Take a cardboard cereal box standing up on end. Push on it on the wide side, it falls over very easily. Push on it on the narrow side, it requires a pressure point higher up on the side of the box to get it to tip over. The force is different even though the "contact patch" area is the same. The cereal boxes contact patch is more stable when a force is put on it frby Archeo-peteriX - Community Forum
I still don't understand why a narrow tire and a wide tire with the same sized patch would have different grip...in any direction. It's all about friction and if I have 7 sq in of patch area for example, the grip should be the same since the same physical laws are acting on both. Why should a square patch have more friction than a rectangular on with the same surface area? It must bby Archeo-peteriX - Community Forum

Daniel doesn't have the M20 in his car. I don't know for sure but I think the M50/52 were built with tighter tolerances and may have originally come with a 5W30 oil in them. QuoteCab Treadway Quotedaniel QuoteArcheo-peteriX I wonder if we need to revisit that old tire 'patch area' thing again? Quotedaniel you could either do that or find an M20B25 for pretty cheap. or theres always the M50... You missed the whole point of the post...his brother has the M20B25 and he needsa to know if the M20B27 will swap in without too much trouble. The M20B27 is available and sitting in Evan's garage(or wherever) and it will cost nothing. The M50/52 swap will involve money and third party stufby Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
Quotedaniel QuoteBob P 325is 88 Switching to a 15W40 oil from a 5W40 because 'the engine is older and needs thicker oil' is nonsense. Both oils, especially if they are synthetic, act as a 40 oil when at normal engine temperatures. The 15W oil is thicker at cold start temperatures and actually offers less engine protection due to its lower flowing capabilities at those temperatures.by Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
