QuoteBob in EverettThere seems to be a correlation to having a hole in the muffler and getting about 10-15% better mileage. Hmmm... something's not right. Maybe the muffler is super-restrictive (it would have to be really bad to affect cruising MPG that much). But I think more likely the O2 sensor is dead, and by coincidence it worked better with a holey muffler.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
QuoteMichiel 318iSDon't want to run it past DTE 50 km though, especially at summer times, those common rails heat up the fuel a lot and when there's little left in the tank... Also, the in-tank pump gets hot when it's not sitting in fuel. Constantly running the tank low is gonna shorten its lifespan.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Thanks guys. Yep, I've tried polishing and using new tape to remove old tape. Cool, I'll try the WD40 (and peanut butter sounds crazy Bob, but I'll give it a crack) before moving up to stronger solvents. Jose, thanks for the reminder about the drains. It's actually on an E34 and the cause of the leak has me stumped. Multiple times, I have blasted the sunroof with a high prby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Hi folks, What do you recommend for removing adhesive without damaging paint? If you would like to hear a story, here goes... I went to grab something from my car on a rainy night, only to discover that it was also raining inside the car! As a band-aid solution, I put clear packing tape (basically a wide roll of sticky tape) over the edge of the sunroof. That did the trick, but the tape baby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
325i head flows the better than 323i, but will have low compression if you bolt it to a 2.7 block (without any other mods) both engines are fine for unleaded apparently a 323i with 2.7L block won't rev unless you put in 325i electonics 325i heads are very expensive in Australia America didn't get the 323i, so there's not much info online about this engineby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Woops, I had it totally the wrong way around (thought your car was "i" and you had swapped to "e" injectors). So I totally agree with everything Bob says.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
QuoteBob in Everettthe computer should correct the fuel mixture ... I have had the blue ones in my car and they work fine. I'm guessing the 325e injectors will be lower flow rate, so I'd be worried about leaning out under load.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Yep, different part numbers on realOEM. German efficiency means each model has injectors that can deliver the maximum fuel that each particular engine needs. No more, no less! Leaning out under load is not cool, best drive like a grandma until you've got the correct injectors in.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Quoterkj I've been doing a lot of thinking lately too about the newer cars (mainly E46's) with all their gizmos. It sure would be nice to have the newer car with great brakes and more stuff but it kind of scares the crap out of me, all that stuff; sure, it's cool but so much more to concern yourself with down the road. I've always had simple cars, now I think I've reallyby nomis3613 - Car Talk
After getting my hands dirty with my E30, my attitude to bells and whistles features (eg electric seats, rain sensing wipers, climate control, integrated GPS) has slowly changed. Whereas before I would think "wow, that's sooo cool, wish I had that", now my thought is "that's really complicated, would be a real hassle when it breaks, probably better off not being lazy andby nomis3613 - Car Talk
I'm surprised they made it N/A. Toyota have said it's intended to be a base for tuning, and these days turbos are easier to squeeze more power out of. Looks like it will be a lot of fun, though. Hopefully it's like an MX-5 (aka Miata) but with a roof and a bit more grunt.by nomis3613 - Community Forum
As someone who has just fitted 205/55R15s to my 325i, I'm starting to think that 195/65R14 is the sweet spot for grunt vs grip. On dry roads, the extra grip has greatly reduce throttle-steerability, so the car feels less agile and more understeery. Considering that the 15 inch basketweaves were an option for this model, I'm wondering if 25 years worth of tyre development means weby nomis3613 - Technical Forum

Hi, just stumbled across this video of the E30 development process: Also, proof that the Teutonic 1980s were űber cool:by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
H&R and Eibach are great, but I'm guessing way above what you're hoping to pay. Have a look around on r3vlimited, there's some great info if you're willing to wade through the immaturity.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Sorted! (although I've said that before...) New regulator and now we're at 13.8 volts. Idle is back where how should be too, so hopefully I didn't fry the replacement ICV in the meantime.by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
QuoteArt Munson I had the same problem. Mine was simply the stop screw on the throttle valve. Just make sure its adjusted properly, it might be opened a little too much. Back the stop screw out so the butterfly shuts all the way on its own then use the screw to keep it open just a bit so it wont jam shut. I wouldn't doubt it if you have the same problem I had. Thanks for the tip, Art. Actuby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Thanks guys, yeah it's really empowering to get things running again by yourself. Not to mention handy not having to wait for the roadside assistance, finding a mechanic open over Christmas, waiting for parts to arrive, etc etc!by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Hi Folks, Just wanted to share the success I had with a variation of the old "penny in the Idle Control Valve" trick (which I think I learned on the old BEN site). While all the parts shops are closed, my ICV decided to pack up. The idle became an angry pulsing from 1400rpm to 1600 which drew stares at every set of traffic lights. Also, the car became terribly shunty to drive at lowby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Thanks for the video, Jose. I thought the worse tyres went on the front, because- with a bit of silly driving- the rears will soon catch up!by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Thanks guys. Since I don't know which corner of the car they came off, guess I'll go with Peter's method!by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Hi, I bought a set of wheels and they came with tyres in good condition. The tyres are not directional, but I'm wondering with tyre rotation stuff whether there's anything I need to look for when deciding which wheel goes where? Or does it not matter so I should just chuck 'em on randomly? Thanks, Simonby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Even if the CVT works well, I'd avoid it on a car I was planning to keep for 25 years. At the risk of sounding like a luddite, these fancy gearboxes have all kinds of gizmos which can fail (look up "Alfa Selespeed") and they can cause such problems that people decide the best fix is to replace it with a manual (very common for E46 SMGs). Also, the CVT design is likely to become anby nomis3613 - Car Talk
Hi, My 3.73 open diff has a fair bit of backlash, I'm wondering if I could replace the centre with an LSD centre. Can you folks help with some questions please? 1) Can I replace just diff centre with an LSD centre or do I have to replace the whole open diff? 2) I've heard that the diff centre doesn't affect the drive ratio (ie I could put the centre out of a 4.27 LSD in mine andby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Hi Folks, How do I remove the motor when the window is stuck shut? I tried ahem "assisting" it to lower while someone was pushing the button, but no joy. How do I do it please?by nomis3613 - Technical Forum

Of course! Actually, now that I think about it, I only swapped the centre console switch. This is wishful thinking but maybe a faulty switch in the door could bring down the whole system, I'll give that a shot too before I pull the door apart again...by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Thanks Peter. I have had that happen before, but IIRC I could hear the motor struggling. Anyway, I will give the "free fix" method another try, hopefully it will save the day!by nomis3613 - Technical Forum
Hi folks, can I please get some help fixing the electric rear window on my 1989 sedan? It's stuck closed, pressing the button makes the switch lights go dim (like for the other windows which are working properly) but there isn't even any noise from the window motor. Sounds like a need a new motor? How do I get at it to remove it, I can't see a way to get at it? If it involves lby nomis3613 - Technical Forum
