At only 1500 I would say you're pistons are probably fine. Take a look, they may have some marks in them, but as long as they don't have holes or really deep gouges you'll be fine. I have seen some incredibly beat up pistons (from timing belt failure) in great running engines; you'd be surprised at how much beating they can take and still function with no sign of it. Oops, I was wondering what happened to this post. I must have typed it in the wrong tab earlier. Sorry guys, that was obviously meant for the thread on valves. :embarrassed:by Andy 90 325i - Community Forum
Hmm, my previous post seems not to have been sent correctly. If you would rather avoid the time and cost associated with new valves (ie. machine work, special tools) I have this head here that you could just bolt on in a day. It is off a 325es that ran great, had good compression and did not burn oil. I would let it go for $100 including the valves, springs, retainers, cam, rockers, cam gear,by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
As I mentioned, I have a complete head in great shape. It was removed from a 325es that was running great with good compression and not eating any oil. I'd let it go for $100 with valves, springs, cam, gear, rockers, etc. Let me know and I'll get it packed up and on it's way. That way you don't have to pay a machine shop or spend a bunch of money on valves etc., you can juby Andy 90 325i - Community Forum
It's quite a job if you have never done stuff like this, but even so, if you have a decent set of tools, are not intimidated by the idea and have a couple days you can do it. It can be done in a few hours once you've done it but I would guess it will take you a solid two days (maybe even a couple more). If you want, I have a good head that is complete with valves, springs, cam and rocby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
How about the union BS too. Do you know that when the companies set up for large trade shows (boats, cars, consumer goods, etc) aren't allowed to plug in a display or extension cord or anything without someone from the union? You have to pay union employees to do virtually everything for those shows!by Andy 90 325i - Community Forum
Yeah, when I first bought my e30 it had been sitting for a few weeks in the Chicago cold and the battery was so dead when I picked it up that after using a booster pack to start it, I had to keep it revved up or it would die with the fog lights on. With the fog lights off however, it had just slightly less draw and it was able to idle on it's own without dying. The next morning I picked upby Andy 90 325i - Community Forum
They are only "more prone" in the sense that they won't automatically retard the timing to account for it. Tolerances have nothing to do with it, in fact, just the opposite case could be made. If tolerances were lousy and you were losing compression, fuel would be LESS likely to detonate early.by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
Quotewodcutr So what you are saying is that because there are no knock sensors in our motors the ECU does not adjust the fuel mixture or retard the timing. I believe it does, just not to the extent that a more modern engine would. What I am getting at is that our computers certainly do have the capability of adjusting fuel consumption for better or worse economy based on the input from the O2 sby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum

QuoteBob in Everett Finally put the new core in the car. Because it is a convertible, had extra braces between the dash and the tranny tunnel. Took the seat out to facilitate the access; glad I did. The old core was leaking/seeping at the end seal on the far end. I would guess it could be crimped tighter and made to work. I might pry the end off and see what it looks like. Quotedaniel i've heard this only effects the 92-95 model e36s. Could be, I'm not really sure. Or maybe they are just a lot more common in those years because they are older...by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
QuoteArcheo-peteriX QuoteMichiel 318iS Looks like we share the same likes and dislikes for the E36. A thing that is not available on the E30's is the recirculation, but I would only use that in tunnels, which I usually don't encounter on my journeys. Funny thing, I just went through this on another vehicle I just bought (I knew it had this problem when I bought it). PO had messed up the threads on all of the cylinders by putting the wrong ones in. A buddy of mine (who I bought it through) had cleaned up all of the cylinders but one. One of them was just too bad and when he put the plug back in, the engine blew it out a short time later. Iby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum

Wow, didn't expect such an ugly poor reception. I don't hate Obama; in fact I voted for him to be our senator. I didn't vote for him for President, because I don't agree with some of the things he wants to do, and he has very little experience, but he is now my President, so we'll see how much of what he wants to do will get done. The brake sensors are consumables. Just replace them with the pads. If you are worried, just take a look at the pads and make sure they are not down to the sensors yet. This will also give you a good idea of when to expect to see the brake light. ie. if there is a lot of material all the way around you know you won't see it come on for a while, but if it is getting close to the sensor, eby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum

Its definitely not normal and yes, they will do an indicated 135mph and handle it very comfortably. I would check the balance and true of that wheel and make sure all the lug bolts are torqued to spec. first. Quotewodcutr Could it cause the wheel to feel out of balance at certain speeds? I get that kind of a feel from my right front tire usually around 65 mph and then it goes away once you hit 70. Kelly, try doing a couple good long stops like he describes in his article. Find somewhere that you can get up to about 60+ mph and step on the brakes pretty hard but don't stop completely after. Do this a couple times. I generally get up to about 80 coming up to an exit ramp and do it there when no one is behind me every once in a while just to help keep deposits from forming to the rotoby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
