Good to see you on here! This is the place to be if you really want to have your questions answered in depth as there are a few guys on here that have owned E30s for 20+ years. If your u-joints are toast, take the driveline down to a good shop and have them look at it. I had a shop install replacable u-joints in mine and then had it rebalanced and all and it was around $500. That was 5 years ago so it could be more now, but it is worth looking into. The car was down for two weeks, but hey it was cheaper than the other options.by wodcutr - Technical Forum
The drive shaft u joints are not replaceable unless you take the thing down to a rebuilder and have them custom fit new ones in and that is fairly spendy. You can get a new one from BMW but that is even more spendy. When you start messing with the drive-line itself it can become costly. I have no idea why BMW engineers designed it this way as they had to know these things would eventually wearby wodcutr - Technical Forum
Soldering the relay will make it function, but it will put your computer at risk if there is a voltage spike. Check your wires to the sensors like Ferd said and if everything checks out then you might want to swap in a different computer.by wodcutr - Technical Forum
The relay is mounted on top of the ABS computer and would probably be black. The early ones were silver. It is about 1.5" square and about 3" long if I remember right.by wodcutr - Technical Forum
The bulb that goes in the cluster for the ABS is not like all the other ones as it has two wires that connect to a housing that holds the bulb. It is identical to the bulb that lights up the rear ashtray FYI. I also might have the correct relay for your ABS as I have one from my parts car. I would just have to check and see if the MY 91 is the same PN as your MY PN. I also have the ABS computby wodcutr - Technical Forum
If your car has ABS then it will have brake lines running to a device in the front left area of the engine compartment just behind the headlights and below the cruise controller. If your car does have ABS then it will also have a computer just under the fog light switch behind the knee bolster. On top of that computer is a relay that protects the system from voltage spikes and is usually comproby wodcutr - Technical Forum
Kelly - I have two cars that the splash guard is missing on. I notice that the engine bay gets a little more debris on the top of the motor ie dust and such, but I would think that you would be ok if you wanted to eliminate it as you have some pretty mild weather where you live. About the only real downside is that there is an inner fender cover that attaches to this too and without the splashby wodcutr - Technical Forum
I suppose you could fashion some kind of a stiffener like a piece of flat metal that is then screwed to the plastic. A lot cheaper than a new one!by wodcutr - Technical Forum
Actually Ferd, 2008 was the coolest year of this decade so far and from what I have seen of the first half of 2009 it is cooler than last year, at least in my neck of the woods. As far as man becoming extinct that could happen with an all out nuclear war or another huge asteroid impact, both of which are beyond our personal control so I try not to loose sleep over those kinds of things!by wodcutr - Community Forum
Daniel - my original post was supposed to be funny. Apparently my sense of humor is not politically correct enough for some people. I am the first to admit that humans produce emissions, and methane, and toxic waste, and a myriad of other byproducts that are not good for us to ingest. With the advancement of technology we have been producing more and more things that are harmful. The problemby wodcutr - Community Forum
So Daniel, if you are so smart why aren't you driving a prius? Your S52 is polluting just as much as my M20. Have you been sucking on your exhaust as you suggest I do? Your thinking is so clear but your actions are quite smog filled. You're another Al Gore preaching a good sermon, but unwilling to pay the price yourself to live what you think is so important. Until you put your monby wodcutr - Community Forum
If the econometer is not working as it should it is generally caused by the SI board not working properly. When was the last time you did a reset? Did it take? Has any of your indicator lights moved down like they should? If the SI board is working then it could be something else, but from my experience dead SI batteries cause a lot of different problems in the cluster.by wodcutr - Technical Forum
So Rick, you must live in a house made of dirt, ride a bicycle to go anywhere, eat only organic grown food, and you must never fart. NOT!!! The problem with liberals is that they want everyone else to change so they can feel guilt free about their own skewed ideas. The truth is that our human existence is really survival of the fittest. I didn't declare anything...I just posted what others have concluded from the study and published. Ya I know this is a touchy subject. I am not about to prove anything to anyone as we all have our own opinion on the matter. It is almost like trying to prove that there is a God. So did you guys miss the part where NASA admits that mars is also warming because the sun is causing that too. I don't think that there are martians effecting that rise in temperature! The sun has so much more energy in it than man can create. Ya we might be causing .001% of the rise in temperature, but the earth has its own built in mechanisms to deal with our "pollution". Here's a LINK. It is not the direct article of NASA, but it quotes from it so you should be able to get there from here!by wodcutr - Community Forum
Your SI batteries need replacing so your econometer will function properly. I just bought a reconditioned SI board on ebay for $40. If you send them your core back they will pay you $20 for it. As for your brake lining light it should not be lit when the key is in the run position, but when you turn it to the starter position it will light up to let you know the bulb is good. That is only ifby wodcutr - Technical Forum
Well now we have the official verdict on global warming. NASA has declared that the earth's warming is due to the sun and not caused by humans. Al Gore can now be free of scrutiny about his hypocrisy and give his prize back. We can all drive trucks and SUVs and even M1A1 tanks for that matter without worrying about our footprint. I wonder what scientist over at NASA is going to be firedby wodcutr - Community Forum
I always thought that all electrical components ran off the battery and the alternator just kept the battery charged up. If this is the case would not the drag on the motor be the same at all times as the alternator does not get harder to turn when there is a larger draw on the system. The voltage regulator is what determines how much actual power is reaching the battery to keep it charged. Thby wodcutr - Technical Forum
If I remember correctly there are two studs welded to the sheet metal that the brake light housing goes over and two plastic nuts secure it in place. You would have to remove the rear shelf to get to them! A lot of work just for that. If you are just wanting to change the bulb that can be done from the trunk.by wodcutr - Technical Forum

My nephew and I were really thinking about doing this. It would have to be done in a pretty big town though to get full use of the space.
