In Norway, it is a little bit of both. Four wheel drive can be an advantage when driving the family to the
skiing resorts in the winter on snowy roads. There are 2WD versions of some of these SUVs, and they
have the same status since they look similar. They still sell very few of them in Norway, as people prefer
the traction and stability with 4WD.
Personally, I prefer the

Oh, the joy of running old cars!
I gather you have two Engine management computers, both with same symptoms, they work for a while then start misfiring.
Try swapping back just for the sake of science.
Check the simple stuff for yourself first, vacuum leaks, plugs and leads, etc. Fuel hoses too, and fuel pressure regulator. Check and clean all electrical connectors.

In theory, it can be done by braking, if the ABS/traction control computer knows what the driver wants the car to do.
There is the ABS pipework, sensors and valves in place, is just some more programming.
Most "SUV" and AWD cars today are just glorified FWD designs, with electronic traction control and bigger wheels thrown into it.
Check the Land Rover Evoque, they did a nice job.

Those are either rust buckets ore a bit expensive.
LPG conversions don't improve fuel economy (unless the car had injection or carb problems), the gain is the price difference per kWh from gasoline to LPG, is about half the price.
The Benz has set the standard of comfort, economy and handling a bit high, not easy to improve. If on

I am entertaining the dream to have a commuter car that would be more fuel efficient, without going deep in debt to purchase some newish hybrid standard model.
So, there are some guys building this (after the "Locost" Ron Champion school):

Never mind the humorus name. :/
My idea was to build a superlight, simple car with engine converted to run on LPG (about half the pric

Interesting stuff - most of the 4WD/AWD systems on the market are busted when oen side of the car has no traction:
...unless you can lock the diff? I can't understand what they say, but makes sense to me.
Propper off-road vehicles have a switch to lock the diff and cope with slippery and low traction surfaces, and normal diff for the road.
In normal road conditions, AWD

The parcel, unpacked, revealed this.
I love new parts!
New suspention is softer than the Sachs I had in the car.
The new shocks are matched and even, so the car is more predictable now and the extra softeness is good to my back...
The old shocks were stored, and will be rebuilt some time when I need to replace shocks again. Either that or sell online...

Delivery is scheduled for next Tuesday 21. The parcel arrived this morning to Herne, from Langenhagen in Germany.
Perhaps they still use stagecoaches in Germany...
You got to love the UPS tracking app.

I am surprised that shock absorbers can be repaired. Seems to me that so much of it would have to be replace and with the labor involved, new would be less expense I would have thought.
Labour is cheap over here.
In Portugal the average worker does over one year, MORE 324 hours for LESS 7484 € compared to a German.
Also the VAT for new parts is high, 23%.

The old Citroen has factory tinted windows, the Benz has not.
I am contemplating to have those window tint film done to the side windows and rear, but not near the top of my "to do list" yet.
Those adesive film tint can be usefull at home too, they can save a lot of energy on existing windows.

I am searching for a new set of shock absorbers for the Benz, w124 250D.
The rear right has quite some play, and the fronts are not doing much, so they all have to go.
The set of new Bilsteins and Sachs units are quite expensive, but there is one brand selling for about half the price:

I also agree that this forum is atypical. Nice people with interesting ideas, that are discussed with respect.
I have joined the 5 series forum since I bought my 2005 545 and it isn't bad, but is mostly for those who want to talk about their mods and how come they are having problems with their cars, when I know that most of their problems are due to their mods!

A spray can of contact cleaner might help and it will do no harm. The dielectric grease comes in a small tube and will require some effort to find the contacts that need protection and smear some of it on each one. A spray can of WD-40 might do almost as much good temporarily but it will collect more dust eventually and has to be renewed. might make matters worse in the lo

If I'm right, 1 bar is OK for these engines but should raise to 3 bar as soon as you blip the throttle. Oil pressure is important! Bearings and crank journals that have too little pressurised oil on them could push through the oil film and cause real damage. On a high mileage engine making longer runs at the time (I assume you mainly do longer runs) I wouldn't both

Hi all!
My daily driver, the Mercedes Benz w124 250d has oil pressure gauge as standard.
The last oil service I got Castrol Edge Turbodiesel Synthetic 5w40 in it, about 5000km ago.
Before I bought it, the usual stuff was some 15w40 every once in a while...
Then I started to put 10w40 semi-synthetic and now this one, I found for sale at a good price. Overkill, I know.

You mean the drive shaft from the diff to the rear wheel or the one from the Gear box to the diff?
What are the symptoms, the car can't pull when in gear?
$120 sounds like a lot of money for a new drive shaft, and perhaps all you need is the consumables that go in it.
Can't you search that part in wreckyards near you?
Good luck!

If just pushing down on the fuses restores things then it is likely you have corrosion on the connections in back of the fuse box. This is fairly common in cars that live in humid climates or by the ocean.
It may be nothing more than having to resolder the connections on the back or it could mean replacing one or more fuse clip terminals.
Bad contacts and corroded terminals
