Haven't had a day off in a couple of weeks so not much progress. I did manage to pry the top off of the AFM and stared at it while scratching myself. Google told me that the 5mm allen on the body was a rich/lean adjuster, it was all the way down (clockwise) to the stop...is that bad? I now I should wrap my head around the AFM testing but my brain hurts from trying to figure out stuff at woby Milo - Technical Forum
I need a professional... Paying attention to it the last few days I think it's primarily "loading" when applying throttle after shifting...does that make sense? Searching for a competent shop to take it to.by Milo - Technical Forum
I took a drive trying to work up a description of my issue...here goes: When I hammer the throttle it blows through the range with no problems, during average driving I have a hesitation at 1700rpm that is sometimes worse than others. Its severety seems to depend on throttle openings. Possibly a vaccum issue? I'm bumping my wheel bearing topic again too, somebody is playing a tuba inby Milo - Technical Forum
'87 325e with just over 100K miles (indicated..but I believe it) It has a few flat spots when running through the rpm range. I'd like it to pull cleanly. Is that too much to ask? It's done it since day one but it's been down on my fix-it list. I recently replaced the exhaust (cat & tail), plugs and air filter Oh, and I use 87 octane Costco gas. A-1 Muffler in Everett has been my muffler guy for years, why I didn't go to him first... Had the car towed to A-1 Muffler ($60), $54 and some creative torching later he made the system fit as well as he could. If I had to guess I'd say that 1987 was a split year for E30s and I got the "other" exhaust because Auto Parts Warehouse didn't know the difference. Oh, andby Milo - Technical Forum
I'm not one to admit defeat easily...UNCLE. Tow truck is coming this afternoon to take it to my muffler guy, where I should have gone in the first place.by Milo - Technical Forum
I bought a full Bosal system for my 325e, I put the back part on a few weeks ago but the bolts were frozen on the head pipes. After a few PB Blaster soakings on a hot head pipe they all came off with little drama. I thought I had the battle won...I was wrong. The flex pipe on the Bosal system was welded about 10deg rotationally off of where it needs to be. Much prying, twisting and swearing isby Milo - Technical Forum
And he's back. Looking at Pelican they differentiate between pre and post 8/87, I've got a 6/87 build for the catalytic converter fitment. Pelican is the only site that seems to think there's a difference...is there? Bavauto and several generic sellers don't distinguish. Thanks again.by Milo - Technical Forum
Meet Lilly, spoiled rotten but still a great dog. I'm lazy and don't like getting the paper on wet mornings, I make the dog do itby Milo - Community Forum
I figured there would be a list of other stuff to do while I'm there...Manifold gaskets between the cat pipe and manifold or between the engine and manifold? I'm guessing the latter. Anything else to order while I'm there? Taking the family to Hawaii for a much deserved vacation for a week, when I get back I'll order some parts. Thanks guys!by Milo - Technical Forum
My 325e cat is rotten, my muffler rattles like a yahtzee cup and I'm close to toxifying myself on seeping muffler extract. Trying to keep a budget DD in mind I've found this cat: And one on Bavauto.com for $375 (bav doesn't like linking) These front ends have to fit a muffler that sounds nice but isn't too loud. I'm sure replacing rotten exhausts is a coby Milo - Technical Forum
Quoterkj What's your mileage Matt *Indicated* 98K, I've only owned it for a few months so it could be more but the wear on pedals and interior makes me think it's not far off.by Milo - Technical Forum
Thanks, I got tied up trying to get a free brush-whacker running today. Sometimes free things are expensive... Sometime this week I'll jack up the rear end and see what's up, checking my deteriorating exhaust is probably a good thing as well.by Milo - Technical Forum
I'm getting an occasional grinding from the rear end, it did it last night when I was backing into a parking spot but was fine as I drove forward and didn't bother me all the way home. Classic bearing failure symptom? I've read a couple of DIYs and there seems to be several ways to proceed, what's the best? Is the bearing a NAPA part?by Milo - Technical Forum
I bought my '87 325e a while back and thought I'd be here all the time asking dumb questions about some new niggle or thunk. I'm happy to report that since I got the timing belt changed I've put ~1000 miles on it without a single issue. It gets 20MPG like clockwork on my 6 mile stoplight crawl to work and while it could be faster I can't complain. I'm finding morby Milo - Community Forum
I had that on my old XP system. I battled it gallantly but every time I thought I had it beat it would rise from the ashes and take over my computer again. I tried every bot-killer I could but the only solution was to burn it down and start over. YMMVby Milo - Community Forum
QuoteEarendil When I move to the Seattle area, maybe I'll consider Everett. You people seem friendly Parts Karma, I've been involved in the Moto Guzzi community for years and we call it parts karma, giving leads to receiving when you need it.by Milo - Technical Forum

After some gentle pulling and the sound of snapping plastic I got the head unit out of it's slot, unplugged the CD changer, plugged in my adapter cable and it doesn't work. If the head unit is selected to CHANGER when I swap cables it works but the button doesn't work with the iPod cable hooked up. fail. I'd like a new head unit anyway, on the list after cat. converby Milo - Technical Forum
I've got an aftermarket JVC head unit already, the CD changer plugs into the back of it and my iPod cable plugs in where the changer used to. Once I get access it'll be easy.by Milo - Technical Forum
I've got a '90s vintage JVC cassette/w CD changer in the trunk, I bought a little iPod adapter cable that plugs in where the CD changer goes. How do I get there? I'm guessing that I have to take the console out (shoulda waited to put that new shift knob on) and attack it from the bottom. Wisdom? Thanks. Matt in Everettby Milo - Technical Forum
It's Christmas Eve, my kids have just thumped me in a game of Monopoly so I have a few minutes with my wounded pride to ask another question. My sunroof crank doesn't stay up in it's pocket after closing, is there a worn detent up there that's fixable or do I just have to deal with it? It doesn't bother me much but it annoys my wife.by Milo - Technical Forum
I'm on the fence, my car being a no frills 325 added frills seem to go against the spirit of the thing. Hey Bob, the lights ended up in the trash can...Sorry. Are 325s like old Guzzis: Don't throw anything away because the week after you do somebody will need it? Were the foglights original? I assumed they were aftermarket bolt-ons with the slotted mounting bracket. Slaps foreheby Milo - Community Forum
I was hoping for stickum, if it's bolted I'll leave it and work toward a low-bling car instead of no-bling.by Milo - Community Forum
My car has a trunk lip and one of those tinted plexiglass shelters over the front of the sunroof. I don't like either of them and while the sunroof tumor looks easy to remove, how tough is the lip? The cheesy fog lights bolted to the bottom of the bumper went on day one and the window tint will be scraped off as time allows.by Milo - Community Forum
1/2" shorter belt and I'm in business. One of the few smart things I've done so far is to buy an extra jack so hoisting the car up on jackstands is far easier. Instead of doing one corner at a time I can have a willing assistant help me jack up one end at a time. Oh, and the lower shroud goes back on easier every time. Hope I don't wear it out.by Milo - Technical Forum
I bought all new belts at Napa when I did my timing belt, they gave me a Napa Premium XL 25-7330 for the power steering pump. I'm maxed out on the adjustment and she's still loose and squealing at startup...and I hate that 'cause it makes me look like a crappy mechanic. I'm on my way out to try to find a shorter belt (master of the obvious) but the Napa site says that'by Milo - Technical Forum
QuoteFlyboy I believe Cab is right, you have to tap the brakes, so it can check the bulbs, if there is no continuity through one of the lights, due to a blown bulb, then the warning light will stay on. Makes sense, I was thinking it was looking for pressure before giving the thumbs up but bad bulbs would be a good call as well.by Milo - Community Forum
I finally got a weekend to do my timing belt, my '87 325 has been on the road for few days now and when I can wrestle the keys away from my wife I really enjoy "driving" a car again. Far too many years without a clutch in a fun lightweight car (my '86 Corolla GTS and before that was an '85 Supra). Doing the belt I had to limit the to-do list or it'd still be onby Milo - Community Forum
