Where do you get parts for those? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Just sayin'............................................. The official cause of TWA 800 blowing up after take off was________________. And JP4 is not nearly as easy to ignite as gas is. In fact, it is pretty hard to get going.by alanrw - Technical Forum
Is there a way to test crank sensors with a DVM?by alanrw - Technical Forum
Hot pump inside of a fuel tank...........what could possibly go wrong?by alanrw - Technical Forum
Wow, I would mail it to Stant and ask if they would like to contribute to the cost of your new cylinder head. @#$%@#$^@Chinese crap is just ruining the after market car part industry. I wouldn't be surprised if Chinese disc brake rotors are radioactive. From the Stant website: Quality Print Email Stant has earned multiple quality awards in the automotive, industrial, and afterby alanrw - Technical Forum
Isn't there a sensor on the crank snout damper in the front of the engine? Check this out:by alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, the interesting thing here is everything was fine until it rained. When you crank, is the tac bouncing? Are you getting voltage to the coil? Now it becomes a matter of tracing. I bet there is a connector somewhere in there that is damp and corroded. The art now lies in finding the bad component. Relays?by alanrw - Technical Forum
Any places by you that sell remanufactured heads? Typically, the head cores are checked for cracks before rebuilding. Or any of the online BMW parts venders? But do invest in pressure testing the engine before you tear it all apart again. Diagnosis is key in these situations.by alanrw - Technical Forum
I would suggest it is time to pressurize the cooling system with air and see where it going.by alanrw - Technical Forum
Just saw a show about the new 4 cylinder twin turbo BMW diesel. Great, unbelievable performance, fantastic fuel economy, very clean. Evidently, they have solved all 3 issues. Perhaps this is what is powering the new 4 series?by alanrw - Car Talk
1984 E30 I think my low fuel light is out. Is there a way to get all of the indicator lamps in the dash to light or do I have to get to the wires on the fuel sender under the rear seat? Also, the RANGE on my on board computer is acting funny. Does anyone know if that is also tied to the fuel sender unit?by alanrw - Technical Forum
Was that car driven into a giant trash bag 5 minutes after it left the factory and then stored in a climate controlled warehouse?by alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, is that readily observable with a pressure test? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
That's just great Rick, Congrats on your daughter, what an accomplishment. Have a really great weekend. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Right, if you load the wrong driver, nothing horrendous will happen, the device just won't work. Typically, the lheoading of drivers is the same, you just go into Device Manager, click on the device and then click on Update Driver. You will be asked where the driver is. I typically store them in a folder on my desktop. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Bob, pull the plugs, pressurize the system for 10-15 minutes then crank the engine over with the plug out. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
When you go into My Computor, the D drive will just show up along with the C drive if indeed the hard drive was partitioned. I wouldn't worry too much about drivers not being deleted. They pretty much just stay in a folder until they are assigned to a specific device. Computers are a lot like cars except your fingernails will be cleaner and your back won't hurt. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Bob, you did say you pressure tested the system, right? If you removed the cap on the plastic tank on the passenger side and used that as your connection point for the pressure tester and the system wouldn't pressurize, that kinda takes the cap out of the equation, right? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, the problem with using a rescue disk from another machine is it will probably load drivers for the other machine so you then have a little cleaning up to do. There is also the possibility that the no sound situation is a hardware not software problem. I know HP used to have a deal where you could go on the internet, put in the serial # and model number and for $10 they would send you a cd wby alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, I re-read the thread and if I am reading correctly, you have several sorta similar laptops and you have been switching hard drives, right? If that is the case, I bet you have drivers on the hard drive for sound card A but you have sound card B hardware on the machine. Is this the case, because if so, we need to approach this slightly differently. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
We'll get there. I have a couple of machines at the office running XP, the machine I am on is Win7. I will check tomorrow. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, try this one: Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Adminstrative Tools->Services Then locate in the list of services "Windows Audio". Open this service If this service is showing with a Startup type set to Disabled then Select "Automatic" from the drop down list then hit apply. Then click the "Start" button. If this service is showinby alanrw - Community Forum
That's very suspicious. The system should pressurize. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Rick, do you get sound when you plug headphones into the sound jack on the side of the laptop? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Keep at it. Is there a speaker icon on the taskbar? Click it and make sure the volume is all the way up. (ask me why I know this )by alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, are you familiar with Device Manager? If you go in there, you will see all you devices listed. If there is a yellow exclamation point, usually that means there is a problem with the device. But if it won't even recognize the new hard drive, I don't understand how you can get windows to start!!. The deal with sound is most likely a driver issue. Possibly the same for the scrollingby alanrw - Community Forum
Do you know how to get into the bios program at startup? Usually, a quick message will display telling you to hit the del key or an F something key to enter the bios program. Don't change anything, just get in a have a look. We can help you after that. Check this out as well: Again, just read, don't change anything.by alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, the sleep on closing is typically a button that gets depressed when you close the laptop (just like a door jamb dome light switch). Google "windows xp power options". It could also be that the bios setting for power options is not set correctly. It is the ACPI settings. Here is a start: Let's see if we can solve this for you. If not, we will just have to spend a weby alanrw - Community Forum
