QuoteFerdinand Quoterkj Wow, Martin is going through that wet fire road very smooth. What does he do for a living? I'm lucky to be teamed up with him. He really is a very good driver and I always feel perfectly safe with him at the controls. I'm not exactly sure what he does for a living. The name is Tyler, and I drive an '89 325i with an unmodded M20 motor (stick too, if anyone cares). I wasn't trying to suggest that it was my ECU that was bad, just reasons why the ECU wouldn't report a fault. I didn't suspect my O2 sensor, as I just replaced that in the fall. But it's worth checking out. The tail pipe, cold engine or hot, smells of raw unburnt gby Earendil - Technical Forum
Oh yeah, I do actually have a question. Is there any reason that my computer wouldn't throw a fault code when the car is running rich enough to light the tail pipe on fire? Shouldn't the CO2 sensor be complaining to the ECU?by Earendil - Technical Forum
I really want to race like this, and your videos/pictures/writeup aren't helping any! I would think that as I get older, this urge would wear off. But really, it's only getting stronger. It also doesn't help that I have a sister willing to be co-pilot Thanks for the distraction from my research paper. I'll try and make more intelligent comments at a later time.by Earendil - Community Forum
Okay, I don't know if cars can get the swine flu, but since I wanted attention, I thought I'd pull a media trick and put it in my headline. Anyway, my gas milage went from 18.8 or so (with quick sprint driving two and from school) to 13.0 while trying to use as little gas as possible. Quotedaniel this question has been slowly killing me for a long time. I am worried that my tire wear is going to be significantly different because i turn one direction more often than the other. It's called tire rotation. Thanks Dave G for the info there, and to the rest. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but this has been my understanding of sway bars... Stiffer sway bars increase the amount that one wheels vertical travel will effect the other, correct? So when in a corner, and the car wants to raise on one wheel, and drop on the other, the sway bar prevents this from happening. In regular streetby Earendil - Technical Forum
Quotejl1371 If you are going to take all the time to get the info just from the cluster and possibly from the ECU, have you looked in to megasquirt. That way to can also tune what you dont like. I know that it would be a ton more work to do this. But there is software already written to run e30s which from what I understand is over half the megasquirt battle (please correct me if I am wrong)by Earendil - Technical Forum
Quotemurrayjambo How about using your short section of OBC wiring harness? This would give access to lots of useful signals from the IC with no hacking required. That is actually the idea. However I still think of tapping into wires as "hacking". Heck, doing anything to a piece of hardware/software that goes beyond general application is hacking in a sense :-) QuotemurrayjamboYou cby Earendil - Technical Forum
QuoteKelly When I asked what he personally needed at the junk yard, he said "Oh, nothing." "Then why did you go?" "It was sunny." "So a sunny day means a trip to the junk yard?" "Yep." I wish the junk yards in Spokane were good enough to do that... I'd be down there once a month if they could keep a BMW in the yard for longer than 2 minby Earendil - Technical Forum
The simple answer is yes. The complicated answer is maybe. There were only two types of instrument clusters, one for the high revving 325i, and a different one for the likes of the 325e that topped at 4k? Anyway, there are still many differences between models, and BMW corrected this with a little white "coding plug". Quotedaniel yes, mine only goes up when it receives a signal from the head unit. my stereo is always in "AUX" or ipod mode, so the antenna never goes up. Lucky you! My antenna will go up as long as the head unit is turned on. It doesn't distinguish between AUX, CD, or Radio. I wonder if this is a wiring problem, or purely a function of the head unit? Quotedaniel you had me interested until the m3 part... booooring. *Escorts daniel to the exit* I'll have to finish watching it later, but I saw the first 1/4 and liked it. I love those old M3's, and not because they are anywhere close to the fastest car on the road.by Earendil - Community Forum
Oh yeah, one more thing. You mention the 320is as having seats that work. What other model/year combo has seats that are interchangeable with our cars, if any?by Earendil - Community Forum
So, are you guys thinking seats along this line? It's a shame they are so expensive. The minute I put that much money into the car is the day she dies I was probably pushing my luck with the $300 for the front end work The only inexpenive seats come in cardinal red which is just... ugg. Not exactly a technical question, but also directly car related. So here we are in the community forum for a little fire side discussion on E30 seats, and courses of action. Update: The steering stiffness is better, but still far more stiff (or resistant to turning) than it was before. I haven't done anything but drive it and remove all the ATF from the reservoir tank. This next weekend I'll get down and dirty again and drain everything from the lines and pump, and make sure there isn't any pressure left. QuoteBimmerBrad QuoteEarendil iMovie over Windows movie maker any day Actually I tend to disagree in one area. All done! Almost... Engine mounts were never replaced. We couldn't use the scissor jack to hoist the engine with the front end of the car up on jack stands, and didn't have the time/energy after she was back on the ground to tackle the engine mounts that day.
