Well, I sold my 84 e30 several years ago. It had come to the end of the road. Paint was going, starting to have gremlins. It being the most fun car I ever owned, I just did the only thing I could, I purchased another one.1984 E30 in pristine condition same paint color a virtual timepiece. It is an automatic but I will adapt. Anyways,I recall a photo of the service indicator reset plug which cby alanrw - Technical Forum
Good to know. I have been debating whether it is worth it to get the old girl re-painted. The clear coat is starting to lift. The problem is urethane paints have pretty much been banned in California. Everything is now water base.by alanrw - Community Forum
So saddened. Rick was one of my favorites on the board. A truly great spirit, he will be missed. Hopefully, his family can find some measure of tranquility in this terrible loss.by alanrw - Community Forum
I would just replace it with what is standard for the car. Could be the rubber was going south due to age and this just capped the deal.by alanrw - Car Talk
Just took mine out the other day. Hit the A/C-no joy. It was recharged about 2 years ago. I guess I need to take it in and find out exactly where it is leaking and get 'er done. Had the same issue with my daily driver, turned out it was a bad hose.by alanrw - Technical Forum
A couple of weeks ago, the AC at the house shuts down. As in your case, the high pressure switch (resetable) tripped. Turned out my condenser fan had seized. Replaced it and the system was back to normal. I wonder if something in your system might be clogged which is preventing coolant circulation to the condenser and that is causing the high pressure shutdown?by alanrw - Technical Forum
Bob, a good friend of mine is an ex-factory certified BMW tech. He is on vacation for the next 2 weeks but if you can wait, I will pose this scenario to him. Have you done any research online? Wonder if it is indeed the compressor as the rest of the system is passive (plumbing and such) or the part of the compressor that regulates internal pressures? I also wonder if the pressure sensor in the coby alanrw - Technical Forum
Bob, have you completely evacuated the system and proven it will hold said vacuum (no leaks)? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
In my professional world, I fall under the auspices of HIPAA. It is all about securing patient information so we have all had to migrate to Win 7. It has caused unbelievable chaos as much of our digital equipment does not have drivers that are Win 7 compatible and the manufacturers are in no hurry to accomodate us so the choice is stay on XP and be in violation of HIPAA (big fines) or migrate andby alanrw - Community Forum
Aren't there 2 allen head screws which hold the disc onto the hub?by alanrw - Technical Forum
The leather cover on my 84 is looking pretty bad. I know they have recover kits but the area where it connects to the 3 spokes looks like it would be a monster to deal with. I am thinking of the easy way out-new wheel on Ebay. But isn't it the case that the spline counts changed after a certain year? Isn't it the early E30's had fine splines and then later they went to coarse splinby alanrw - Technical Forum

A friend of mine has an independent mini repair shop. You can not even begin to imagine the idiotic decisions that were made in the manufacture of this car. How about having to completely take off the nose of the car in order to replace a water pump that is guaranteed to fail again in 30-40K miles? I could regale you with stories but that is one of the better ones.by alanrw - Community Forum

That's unfortunate. I am at the point when I hear the part or item was made in China, pretty much resigned that it is gonna be crap.by alanrw - Car Talk
Had the same thing. Replace a seal 3x with a Chinese part (major chain auto parts store). After the third one leaked, went to Toyota and bought a factory part. Leak solved. Many decades ago, "Made in Japan" was synonymous with poor quality. Wonder how long it will take the Chinese to get over the hump?by alanrw - Car Talk

Thanks for the tip John. I did study the wiring diagram and the stalk switch appears to feed the headlight relay from 2 points, the continuous (click lock) side and the momentary(pull side) so I guess it is time to dive into the steering column. John, is the stalk switch a sealed unit or is there a cover that is held on by screws? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Just noticed a problem with my bright light stalk switch. When I push it forward, the stalk clicks/locks and the brights come on. When I pull the stalk towards me, nothing. It used to be when I pull the stalk towards me, the brights came on and stay on as long as I maintain pressure on the switch. My question is can the switch be taken apart/diagnosed/repaired or is it just a swap out sealed unitby alanrw - Technical Forum
About 35 years ago, a truck tire came loose like that in Santa Barbara on the 101. It jumped the barrier and killed a guy. But how many of us look for loose wheels when we are defensively driving?by alanrw - Car Talk
Along those lines, is a head supposed to be torqued down on the block before cam and cam train is installed? Your initial approach makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint unless they do assemble it before, install on the block and then adjust? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
that' kinda odd. You would think your approach makes perfect sense as the cam is in the head. Wonder what could have changed? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
