IIRC you just have to open it part way, pull down the front of the sunroof headliner, then push it back while you close the sunroof. Once the headliner is slid back, it is pretty obvious how everything comes apart, but if you are just trying to re-time the sunroof, I don't think you even have to get in there. The timing mechanism is all contained within the motor. I believe you just havby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum

The three shown in that picture are (from left to right) the M3 version, the sedan/coupe version and the Convertible version. As I recall, the earlier ones that are all plastic and not covered with carpet come apart from the inside and the bulb is replaced. You just have to pull the plastic housing cover off to access it. I think just through the radiator. I know that on the later ones there is a metal pipe that crosses the front of the engine rather than that hose that passes by the side of the alternator.by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
Peter, what year and model e30 do you have? Before they reversed the flow of coolant ('90 I believe) the alternator fan/pully had a tendency to cut through the radiator hose when mounts got bad also. In any case, if the engine has moved (especially that much), you should take a look at EVERYTHING to make sure nothing has been stressed/stretched and that nothing has been chewed up or damageby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
I think the low beam has a black piece around the center ellipsoid focusing ball. I believe the lens is clear, with a donut shaped black plastic piece behind it that gives the effect. The light output is not effected because it is all being projected by the ellipsoid ball that does not have any tint or plastic in front of it. VDO and Motometer are the two manufacturers that I know of for the e20 clusters. I am not sure if they are interchangeable. The SI board is actually separate from the cluster, so if something does go awry, I would just buy a new one from the dealer and be done with it. It will be brand new, with new batteries and a warranty. I also am not sure if the SI boards are interchangeable between modeby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
It is in the head unit. Most head units have had this function for several years now. Generally there are two remote wires. Both are blue and one is always on (this one is for an amp) and the other is only powered with the radio function selected (this one is for the antenna). It might be worth checking your installation manual to see if there are two remote wires. If so, you may have connecby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
Actually, the smoked ellipsoids are the same as regular ellipsoids, but the have a black plastic + shaped divider inside them. By doing this, they are able to produce the look without reducing the light output. When you look at them, the silver part reflects the black part to your eye, giving the appearance that they are tinted. When the bulb lights, it reflects off the silver part and is projby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
Quotenomis3613 Hi, Yes like wodcutr says if it is wired to the stereo it'll only raise when the radio is turned on. And some head units are smart enough to lower the antenna when in CD/iPod mode, if you're ever looking to replace your stereo. But don't buy a Sony! They need a custom tool to install/remove and their customer service is terrible IMHO (sorry, just had to get thby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
HID's as they are called, stands for High Intensity Discharge. They use bulbs that do not have a filament, but rather are filled with Xenon gas. There is usually a ballast with a built-in ignitor. They work by exciting the Xenon gas in the bulbs, which produces the light. They are similar to florescent lights. HID's draw less power than Halogens, produce more light and have a consiby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
Supposedly the new BMW Diesel's exhaust is cleaner than the air going into the intake in LA. :embarrassed:by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
There are a number of ways around this. The best solution would be to replace your Xenon's with BiXenon's that will function as high and low beams. HID's don't have filaments, but the BiXenon's have a moving reflector that alters the light for high and low beams. You could also put Xenon High beams in, which would really brighten things up. My big problem with K&N is that I have to spend more money to inconvenience myself. To properly clean them you have to wash them, dry them and oil them. I prefer to just pop in a new filter rather than spend my time cleaning one and then have to wait for it to dry to reinstall it and drive my car.by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
Well, as I said, I took mine to NAPA and had them press them out/in in their machine shop, but I know there were several people on the old board who developed home-brewed methods of doing the job. One guy jacked up his car and lowered it down on it to get them out/in, but I think that using a car jack would be the best method. You can't do it in an arbor press, I can tell you that much. You guys are making way too much of this job. Getting the ball joints out is easy. If they start spinning, put a jack directly under it to keep it seated until the nut is off, then it will come right out. If it doesn't spin and is stuck in there, a few hammer hits to the side of the control arm where the ball joint is located will usually break it free. I think it is more likely to be a coincidence. Check your brake pads. Check all of them, but the sensor are located in the front left and rear right. If the pads are good, the sensor may have become dislodged, or the wire may have chafed and caused this. The light generally acts like that when the pads are just getting to the sensor. If the pads really are worn, the light will start coming oby Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum

I wouldn't trust any plug gap to be right out of the box. Always check the gap on every plug before installing it. You never know what klutz at the parts place may have dropped the box, or if the shipper Ace Ventura'd the box on its way to them. I think the reason is that if there is a fault, there is no way for the system to determine what it could cause. While it seems like you would want it to be operable if possible, on the other hand, you wouldn't want it going off at 80mph on the highway for no reason. My understanding is that the ABS and SRS systems always disable themselves if there is a fault present.by Andy 90 325i - Technical Forum
QuoteDave_G QuoteAndy 90 325i I don't think you have an airbag, but if you do, you may set a fault by pulling the wheel. Quotenomis3613 Thanks Chan and Tyler. From the pics, removing the wheel doesn't seem to be much extra work, but I'll have a go at getting the cluster out without removing it first. As nice as it would be to legalize it for the very reasons you have pointed out, it is problematic because the police have no way to quantify how high someone is when they pull them over like they can do with alcohol. With alcohol they can breathalyze the driver, but there is no currently feasible way to do this for marijuana. We have them here in Chicago too. Mostly in the suburbs actually, but there used to be one down town that was goofy. The light would be red with a green right turn arrow and the camera would get triggered and send you a ticket if you went through the green arrow right as the other lanes got their red. Dave, those are the old Craftsman Ratchets and yeah, they used to be good. Unfortunately, I don't believe they offer those any longer. I have heard that the professional series ones are pretty good, but I haven't used one. I have played with them a little and they don't feel as nice as the high ends, but as long as my knuckles remain intact I could deal with that for the savingsby Andy 90 325i - Community Forum
Yeah, Snap-On and Matco are expensive, but the quality is definitely higher. There are plenty of things that Craftsman are great for though. Their sockets and professional series wrenches are great and cost far less, but their ratchets are really for the birds. I broke a few of them myself, but they were so bad that the Sears had a bucket of them at the counter for warranty! Snap-On or Matcoby Andy 90 325i - Community Forum
