My 84 didn't come with the flashlight but it did come with that tape casette cleaning kit with the casette that you put denatured alchohol on and then insert it into the tape deck. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
QuoteJose Pinto This forum has been busy! Good to know the problem was solved. I took my kids to the snow last Sunday, to the highest place in mainland Portugal. No need for snow tires, they plow the roads clean so people can use regular tires there. Just felt like sharing... Obviously, in Portugal they don't use E30's for snowplows!!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Coolness!!! Ugh, we were completely off base on this one. It was electrical not fuel system. Good ending though!!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Bam,, do yourself a favor, live large. and grab a test light while you are at it. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, the way I know there is a fusible link is I once blew mine when attempting to jump start another car. In my case, my car is a 1984 with battery in the trunk. I attempted to jump by connection jumper cables onto the front connectors. The fusible link is on a cable that splits off the main cable (which goes to the starter) and feeds all the other electrical systems on the car. Best bet isby alanrw - Technical Forum
fusible link in trunk (assuming your battery is in the trunk) if not, it might be pretty close to the battery on the main cable. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
If you think about it, if the injectors are leaking, then one would think there is fuel in the manifold although wouldn't it evaporate with a warm engine? You idea that it is firing faster at startup is consistent with excess fuel in the manifold except for the notion of fuel evaporating in a warm engine. I wonder what would happen if you simply pulled a couple of spark plugs and insertby alanrw - Technical Forum
A poorly fitting oil dipstick will cause havoc as well (ask me why I know this ) It will let unmetered air into the system. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Any possibility the new injectors are deficient? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Bob, what if the ECU is not getting the signal from the temp sensor? The ECU would think the engine is fine and no need for enrichment? Or possibly an issue with the ECU itself? Worth checking continuity and resistance values at the ECU connector? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Pffttt, all I was given for failed windows was an S shaped allenwrench in the glove box!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Actually, exterior doors are supposed to open in so that the hinge pins are on the inside of the house for security purposes. If they are on the outside of the house, they can be driven out and the door removed. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Isn't there a fuel subsystem that enriches the mixture when cold? There is a coolant temp sensor which feeds info to the ecu enabling the system? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Now you know how easy it is to break into your house. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Quotebam_loves_his_bmw_325i QuoteJose Pinto QuoteMichiel 318iS That's right, fuel leaks under the hood require an immediate fix. That's why my 318iS hasn't been started for almost 2 years now, it's got a fuel leak at the injector rail, leaking over the starter. Don't want to start it twice! What a waste of a perfectly good 318is! Get those O-rings and seals replaced aby alanrw - Technical Forum
That's great news. A bad fan is much easier than a warped or cracked head. Had the exact same problem in my wife's PT Cruiser. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Ugh, looks like one of those ones where you say a prayer and then unsnap it hoping nothing breaks. No screws. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Let's submit it to the annual Darwin awards!!!! alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Does anyone know how to test this thing? Is it simply turning on the ignition, disconnect the lead and the gauge goes to E, reconnect and it goes to F (assuming a full tank)? Couldn't find anything in Bentley. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
To the best bunch of guys on the web, a happy and healthy 2013!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
For a split second, I was gonna throw a few goldfish in and take a picture alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
QuoteMichiel 318iS Maybe through the ventilation system? Nah, sun roof models have a drain hose that runs into the trunk and out a side vent with a rubber flapper. Somehow the hose got disconnected from the side vent and was just draining into the left well. I did double check the gaskets around the tail lights but they were tight and dry. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
So I came home the other night and I noticed the back window of my trusty E30 was all fogged up on the inside. It had been somewhat rainy all week here. So I went out today and opened the trunk. The inside of the trunk felt really damp. Much to my surprise the left well where the jack is stowed was completely filled with water to the point it was overflowing into the well for the spare tire. On the E30, you just short the connector to get the fans going. Would guess it is the same on the 5? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
So you could rig up a vacuum system using a MityVac. Harbor Freight sells their version of the MityVac. They also sell an infared temp sensor. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
It seems curious that they would design an engine with obvious air traps which make bleeding the system not so easy, eh? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Wonder what they do at the factory or dealership, they can't keep having the car back to bleed the air. And what was that deal with drilling a hole in the thermostat to allow air to escape, why isn't the hole there in the first place? I wonder if they apply a vacuum to the cooling system as they fill it in order to pull the air out of the system as it is being filled? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
What is interesting here is when you turn on the heater, the temp drops. When you bled it a second time, was there more air in the system? Possible head gasket issue? But you said it does hold pressure over time, right? You can get the coolant tested for combustion product presence. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Is it leaking or just overheating? Plugged radiator? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
