Agreed, possibly some coolant went down the exhaust pipe and killed the O2 sensor. As to the alternator, check the belt tension. If that is OK, possibly the belt got fouled during the major repair? It does sound like everything is OK, just a few details to sort out. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Pull the plugs and see what they look like. You might have fouled plugs. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, after 26 years, she hiccuped a little yesterday and today. When sitting at idle, I get a burble that causes the rpms to drop about 300 rpm and then it goes right back up. The car is a 1984 5 speed 325E. It is not all the time which tends to make me think it is not a vacuum leak as I would expect that to be constant. At this point do I take out the Idle Control Valve and hose it down with caby alanrw - Technical Forum
I really never understood why they put a spark plug wrench in the tool kit. It is kinda a crappy tool but I guess if you launch a spark plug on the road, it is better than nothing. Perhaps the engineers knew something we didn't which is why they included it? Never had a car before or since that came from the factory with an "emergency" spark plug wrench!!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I think my 84 325E was like $22-23K. Bought it in April 1984, still going strong!!! Worth every penny!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
LOL, wait till the Puxatony Phil finds out he's he's just been given his laidoff pink slip!! I tell you, this recession is hitting everyone!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Wow, strange!! Glad the hole wasn't stripped!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
You can buy undercoat in a rattle can at most auto parts stores. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, there's this; The only question is do you have the onboard computer on your car as the turn signal switch is tied into that system. When you depress the stalk towards the column, it cycles the OBC thru the various functions. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Hmm, just went thru this a couple of days ago. We just bought a used Corolla which only came with one transponder key. Had to go to the locksmith who takes the key, inserts it into a reader (box about half the size of a shoe box). The machine reads the code (the keys have chips like pet ID chips embedded that give off a code when excited by a magnetic field). The machine "remembers" theby alanrw - Community Forum
Were those cars constant 4wd or could you go to 2wd? Were the transfer cases and all that hardy components? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
LOL, why is it I have an image of you two putting a warm blanket around you car and a pan of warm milk in front of them? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Hmmm, I know on a small block Chevy, you merely pump the cylinder up to 60psi with a sparkplug air attachment, that holds the valve in place, use the valve spring removal tool to take off the cap, replace the spring and seal, replace the cap and you are done. Not sure if it can be done on an E30. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Wasn't there a lower end on the CFC program? Cars older than X were not redeemable? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Thanks Woodctr, I think I would want a 84-85 325 as gas milage is a consideration here but my guess is we will end up with a Civic or Corolla. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
A few years ago, there were a potload of them in Southern California. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
So my oldest son was in an accident (he's fine) but my Toyota van was administered last rights. So in the discussion about what the next car will be, he pipes up "what about you giving me the Beemer?" Children are full of flights of fantasy. I just looked at him and said nothing. But it was an interesting idea. So I went to the web and googled BMW E30 For Sale and came up empty. Eiby alanrw - Community Forum
I think Peter hit it correctly. The corporate culture of Toyota requires secrecy and no admission of fault in order to "save face". For myself, I have hated the ever increasing reliance on electronics in cars. The systems have become so complex, no one knows what to do when something goes wrong. It could be that the pedals stick, the driver applies the brakes, the car slows a bit anby alanrw - Community Forum
I've seen guys repair stripped cylinder head bolts with JB weld. It is pretty hardy stuff. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Are they making aftermarket body parts for these fine cars? I had a 2002, what great ride!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Yeah, most likely a camera setting. You will have to sleuth around in the menus on the camera. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
I'd be looking at the fan, perhaps the viscous coupling is going south. Pop the hood and rev her up. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Yep, just put the cd in the drive, go to my computer and right click on the cd drive and hit "explore". If the drive starts loading a program when you insert the disc, just cancel out of the install and explore the disc to see what apps are on it. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Well, as long as you are sure the programs start on disk 2. I would think they did. Nothing to loose by trying. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Well, I merely meant use the desktop as a test bed to see if you could get XP to install with the install key(s) you have. If you get to the point where you type in the key and it takes it, you know you have the right key. Now abort the install, reformat the desktop and install the OS you were going to install. The thing about "install disks" that come with the computer from Dell, Hby alanrw - Community Forum
Well, if you were able to downloand updates, then your copy of Windows is valid as far as Microsoft is concerned. So I would reload using the product key Jelly bean gave you. Even better, if you have a spare machine, try loading your copy of windows onto it, if it takes the install key, all is good. But since you installed service pack 3, might as well see how your computer performs, maybe re-insby alanrw - Community Forum
Rick, if I understand you correctly, you still don't have the install key, the series of numbers and letters you type in during the install of Windows? Keyfinder by Jelly Bean worked for me. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Check the cover page of Device Manager, many times the key is there. If not, try this: alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Hmmm, if you can, I would take the thing apart and make sure the heat sink and such are free of gunk. Overheating can cause all kinds of mayhem. Short of that, you could try reloading the hard drive. Some files might have gotten corrupted. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
I would put a lot of weight on that opinion. His mind is still pure and has yet to be polluted with meaningless opinions!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
