Thanks for asking. I have periodically suffered from a bad back in my life, but this one was weirder than most. Sunday night, sometime between putting the kids to bed and going to bed myself, I must have done something, because I leaned down to the floor to pick up Molly's water bowl to refill it, and felt a little tenderness really low down in my back, more like my tailbone. Quotejames Hey Man, Glad to hear you're doing well. At least you still have your e30, I bet you sneak a peak regularly. Oh sure, I gaze at it wistfully just about every day. I even have an engine crane sitting next to it so I can start the work of taking it apart. The crane has been sitting there for about two years, so you can tell how on top of this project I am. Hi James, welcome home! Major bummer on that touring. We still have ours (AWD, unfortunately), but it's a bit tight with the rear-facing car seat on the passenger side. Makes the front seat uninhabitable by humans, so for the next 3 months until our son can turn around front-facing, we're a two car family whenever we all go somewhere. Otherwise, life goes on. Ditto with the 5-series GT model that BMW NA has decided we'll get instead of the practical and fairly good looking wagon (ahem... touring). I hear/fear the same thing is going to happen with the 3er, we're not going to get the wagon anymore, replaced with the useless and ugly GT fastback thing. I will hold on to my E46 wagon as long as possible... I just wish it were RWD. Maybe in aby Cab Treadway - Community Forum
So. Manchester was brutal. What a trip! I had a great time right up until I was robbed at gunpoint. But after a quick detour through Nigeria, I'm now home safely again. Thanks everyone who got in touch with me. All is fine, no damage done, just annoyances. Ernest even told me that he found "me" online on Microsoft's IM client and chatted with "me." Quoterkj QuoteMichiel 318iS VW Touareg comes in diesel too here, up to a V10. If the current Mini is to small for you, check the original! Did you get E46 diesels in the US? And! Most important! Typically at or around 300 miles on the tank, unless I'm having a good mileage tank and am still at 1/4 tank at 300 mi. This morning I refueled at 320 mi, and I still had a while more that I could have gone. 1990 325i with various mods. Has been sitting neglected since August 2006. I miss it something fierce. My plan is to install a modified S52B32, but that is a very long term project, both in terms of available time and money. Kelly, I had a 1997 Jetta with the VR6 engine and a 5-speed. It had a few issues, but they were specific to the engine. I'm not sure if the 2001 GTI was a turbo I4 or the VR6. My issues were with the ignition system, in particular the coilpack had cracks and would arc to ground when the weather was wet and/or humid. I got around it by removing the coilpack and slathering it with non-cby Cab Treadway - Car Talk

Ove is still pretty active with his cars, I believe. I see his updates on Facebook. He is married now, and I wonder when he'll be procreating. ;-) Most of his updates are in some weird, non-English language, so for all I know maybe he already has kids. I know Tire Rack makes sure to tell people they need to match all 4 corners. Even if it's old news, I think that's a good plan. I had a friend who wanted to put snows on only the fronts of his FWD Acura. He found out (and Ove confirmed) that if you put only 2 snows on, they need to be on the back, even if the car is FWD. I believe the brake check light stays on until the car diagnostics has a chance to check if they're working. It can't check if the lights are working until the pedal is pressed and the lights turn on (or not).by Cab Treadway - Community Forum
The only other thing I thought of, but I'm sure you've checked this out, is to check all the caliper mounting bolts. I have had bolts go loose before and then the whole caliper shifts slightly when applying the brakes, resulting in that type of sound. And if you've done anything in the front of the car recently, I'd check the bolts on the front calipers as well. Sounds haveby Cab Treadway - Technical Forum
Ah, hell... I haven't darkened the door of the Tech Forum in forever... I had some clunking/rattling noises coming from the rear of the E30 that I never truly diagnosed to any real satisfaction. It wasn't necessarily only under braking, though. It would happen sometimes just when one side of the car (I think it was the right side) was unloaded over rough/frost-heaved roads. QuoteDave_G A minor point but a significant one: don't confuse the E46 Xi with the E30 iX -- they are very different technologies. They are both AWD, but that's about all they have in common. The older, primitive E30 iX system is mostly mechanical, and uses viscous couplings in the center and rear LSD diffs.
