QuoteJohn Yust Still weird. I got home early enough to try it in daylight. It rained pretty hard while I was gone, just as predicted, and the %$^& car wouldn't start, at least not right away. Here are the details: I tried to start it and it cranked and cranked, but wouldn't start. It hit a couple of times but wouldn't keep going. The automatic transmission is designed to be left in gear...that is the whole point of the torque converter. Putting the car in neutral may save a little fuel but it isn't going to make much difference as far as wear goes.by Archeo-peteriX - Car Talk

Pull the resistor block out. You will find that the rivet on one of the pins is loose. I fixed mine with a centre punch and the flat spot on a vice.by Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
It could be a bad ground on the rear of the cluster. It could also be a bad connection from the Motronix unit above the glove box. I had a problem like that that was eventually identified as being the fault of the battery which had a shorted cell. If the battery voltage is too low you can expect all sorts of electronics problems.by Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
Sounds like there may be a problem with the switch or the connections to the switch. If there was a problem with the resistor block; you would get all four speeds or only 4th speed.by Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
Quotebam_loves_his_bmw_325i... Seriously? Maybe I confused myself but I thought the coolant pump was mounted on the exterior of the engine right below the expansion tank? Well then what is the thing I thought was the pump? I can't even find it in my bentley. Although, my pdf version is missing a chapter..... That would be the thermostatby Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
Quotebam_loves_his_bmw_325i UPDATE. My alt belt snapped off the other day, based on my drooling coolant leak. Wasn't the coolant pump. I've found it to be originating from just about the main engine fan. Also, my main engine fan is vibrating violently. To the point where I can hear it with the hood closed. Any thoughts? Experiences? QuoteJose Pinto QuoteBob in Everett Can you take the hard drive from the old computer and install in the new one? Make it the D or E drive and just copy the files from it to the C. Could be done, but being a laptop it may void the warranty by doing that. There are those external drive boxes, to mount the old hard drive inside and hook up to the USB port, may be a way. Akronis is a tool that lets you make a back up of a hard drive. It does a complete bit by bit copy so that you can just copy it back to a new disk and won't have to reinstall the apps. It's especially good if you have lost the COA for the OS and other apps. BTW...there are other apps available that will find your passwords and COA or registration numbers for apps that have themby Archeo-peteriX - Community Forum
Sure; you can back up anything but you will have to reinstall any programs no matter if they are backed up or not. Backups are only good for data, pictures and video stuff. There are programs that let you make an exact bit for bit copy of your hard drive that can then be simply transferred to a new fresh hard drive. But the original has to be in working order first. Check out a program calby Archeo-peteriX - Community Forum
Good one Bob. That is what happened to me. One of the cells in the battery shorted out leaving the voltage too low to run the electronics but with more than enough oomph to crank the engine over. This one does sound like the fusable link though.by Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum

The ECU uses input from several sources...engine RPM(slow at cranking speeds); temp sensor input; #1 plug wire sensor; the AFM; the TPS and the O2 sensor. With all of these sensor inputs being in a closed loop; any one of them can cause problems. The reason I'm suggesting the fuel starvation rather than flooding is because the ECU will ignore most of the other inputs when it sees the WOTby Archeo-peteriX - Technical Forum
Quoterkj I don't think the 02 sensor or the temp sensor will have those affects on the way Bobs car is running though, I've had both and from my experince (I hate this computer, spell check does not work on this site) those were not the simptoms. Rear wheel bearing! I had the exact same happen on the iX. It will eventually get louder to the point where you can almost not stand the howling it will make. Don't wait until it gets that bad because it can ruin the hub and axle. As a quick test; after you driven it for a while; stop and feel the center of the rear wheels. After I drive to work in the morning, I park in a single car garage with a roll-up door. After the car sits for 3 hours or so, the garage has a gas smell. There are no drips on the floor. If the bulb is the only problem with the brake light warning on the diagnostic panel then the warning light should go out when the bulb is replaced.
