gus is not the owner of this forum. he let the old BEN die, so we all had to restart as noobies under new ownership. its a long story, but basically gus stopped administrating the forum and spammers were making lots of posts, and then one day the site just died completely after being hijacked by russians. but with that said, welcome!by daniel - Suggestions and questions
QuoteDave_G Quotedanieltwo sisters looking at each other, but as you can see, i accidentally caught the edge of the large hat as the focus point, and because the faces were an even distance away from the camera, they were both out of focus, even though the very front of the hat looks wonderful. I like this photo too, except for the focus issue that tripped you up! Auto-focus is a two-edged sby daniel - Community Forum
These photos are not to showcase my photographic talent (which I definitely do not showcase here), but rather to reflect on my first experience with a prime lens, and a lens that has a very shallow depth of field. Many of these photos I took just to test exactly how shallow the focus was, rather than because of interesting content. What I have learned: f/1.4 is only useful in certain situatiby daniel - Community Forum

Quotedaniel...but i am also tempted by the sigma 30mm f/1.4... well it was my birthday on thursday, and i received an amount close to half of the cost of this lens in amazon gift certificates, plus $100 that my friend gave me and said "you have to spend this on camera equipment". i couldn't NOT buy it. It will get here thursday, just in time to test it out on some fireworks thiby daniel - Community Forum
Quotesdp The steering rack on our 1990 is leaking pretty badly. I've looked around and prices are way up there for remanufactured units. Didn't see much online as far as replacing seals yourself (didn't look hard). I have a source locally for BMW salvaged parts. What are peoples opinions on this subject. for the record, i would never modify the paint of any car if said paint was in refurbishable condition. I would much rather have some heavy treatment done to it to fix it, but it is beyond repair. BUT, the car is keyed in about 3 places, each at least a couple feet long or spelling out an expletive, and the roof and hood practically didn't have any paint left on them (roof still doesnt).by daniel - Community Forum
Quoterkj Cant really say I care for it... i figure it's better than very faded paint!by daniel - Community Forum
QuoteDave_G Every time I see pictures of your car's hood I am more in awe. Like the bumper sticker says, that is just toadly ossum! thanks, Dave here are some daytime pics:by daniel - Community Forum
QuoteDave_G From my personal experience, you can run the A/C well below freezing with no ill effects. I would guess there is no lower limit. i tried it at absolute zero and it still worked, so you guess correctly, there is no lower limit.by daniel - Technical Forum
QuoteCab Treadway Yes, f/1.4 is 2/3 of a stop faster than 1.8, so you can shoot in lower light. From what I understand, Sigma lenses can be very good or very bad, sometimes you have to return them once or twice to get a good copy. The price of this Nikkor combined with the focal length sold it for me. So far we're quite happy with it. yes i have read about the quality control issues whiby daniel - Community Forum
tonight a friend and i came up with a weird idea for the hood. anyway, i like it and think its kinda funny. daytime pics tomorrow. she did most of the work. i thought this looked kind of coolby daniel - Community Forum
very cool. i want that lens, but i am also tempted by the sigma 30mm f/1.4, even though it is $440 compared to $200. doesnt sound like its worth the extra monies, but from what i have read, the f/1.4 is like 60% wider than the f/1.8. it'd be nice to take the camera to a kind of dark concert and not have to use flash.by daniel - Community Forum
yeah i just want to avoid taking out the cluster more than one time as it is 100 degrees here and the last thing i want to do is sit in my car in the sun and fiddle with stuff. maybe this is a good excuse to buy an m3 cluster...by daniel - Technical Forum
QuoteEarendil I went to repair my odometer 2 years ago. I was at that same site looking at gears. While there exists one gear in particular that usually breaks, you should definitely open up the entire thing and take a look at those gears. I made the mistake of opening up mine and only finding the gear with the broken tooth. I replaced that one gear and realized that ever gear in there was made oby daniel - Technical Forum
i realized it after my trip odometer was at 208.5 for about 20 miles. of course, it took me 20 miles to figure out that i had been looking at the same number the whole time. i went to odometergears.com and i see that there are four possibilities for what gears i may need. they suggest i look at the circuit board before ordering, but is there any way to tell which gear(s) i need without removby daniel - Technical Forum

QuoteEarendil Quotedaniel rear subframe bushings? Humm... I don't think I know where/what those are. Unsurprisingly it's not in the glossary of the Bentley. How might I visual inspect them? they are directly in front of the rear wheels, one on each side, and if they haven't been replaced on your car they are probably totally shot.by daniel - Technical Forum
