QuoteArcheo-peteriX I think that repair shops would do something like a dynaflux test to find any cracks. It doesn't involve pressurization. If you have access to the penetrants and dyes; you could do the test yourself. Google 'dynaflux crack check' for details. Hey Bob, I'm so sorry to hear this. I was ready for good news! Thanks Guys. Wow, what a holiday that was. Janet and I stayed at a working farm/Bed and Breakfast and had a great time. The graduation was inspiring and wonderful, and needless to say we were the biggest, proudest parents there! The countryside was stunning (as usual) and lulu, our new E39, ran perfect. QuoteBob in Everett After getting the engine back together I put a new muffler on it because of a inch diameter rusted hole in the middle of the bottom it. Took a leisurely drive for a scenic tour of back roads today. I nolticed that my gas mileage seemed to be unusually low. QuoteBob in Everett Does the warning light come on during the start cycle like the other lights on the dash? On my cars, 1987 325e and 1988is, neither of them show the low fuel lamp when the key is cycled. But I know they both work (I've seen them!). QuoteJose Pinto QuoteBob in Everett The water level seems to be holding. I plan to take it for a little shake down cruise on Saturday just to make sure before I head for Montana on the Independence day weekend. No evidence of water getting into the oil. Quotealanrw Rick, is that readily observable with a pressure test? alan Usually, yes... There was a fella here that pumped his cooling system with a low amount of air pressure (from a compressor) and he saw it weep right there. Our cars do have history of this. Rickby rkj - Technical Forum
QuoteBob in Everett After two weeks of work evenings and weekends, I got the car running again. The head gasket is changed. There was water in the low spots around the rocker arms when I took the valve cover off. Could not find any indication on the old head gasket as to where the water might have been leaking into the oil. Hope just changing the gasket solves the problem. Quotealanrw Right, if you load the wrong driver, nothing horrendous will happen, the device just won't work. Typically, the lheoading of drivers is the same, you just go into Device Manager, click on the device and then click on Update Driver. You will be asked where the driver is. I typically store them in a folder on my desktop. alan Wow, Alan!.... I know this and still I choose to maby rkj - Community Forum
Quotealanrw When you go into My Computor, the D drive will just show up along with the C drive if indeed the hard drive was partitioned. I wouldn't worry too much about drivers not being deleted. They pretty much just stay in a folder until they are assigned to a specific device. Quotealanrw Well, the problem with using a rescue disk from another machine is it will probably load drivers for the other machine so you then have a little cleaning up to do. There is also the possibility that the no sound situation is a hardware not software problem. Quotealanrw Rick, I re-read the thread and if I am reading correctly, you have several sorta similar laptops and you have been switching hard drives, right? If that is the case, I bet you have drivers on the hard drive for sound card A but you have sound card B hardware on the machine. Is this the case, because if so, we need to approach this slightly differently. alan Okay, I did switch harby rkj - Community Forum

Quotealanrw Rick, do you get sound when you plug headphones into the sound jack on the side of the laptop? alan No Alan, nothing anywhere, and when I go in to the sound folder it tells me there's no sound device. Hmm, interesting. Thanks Bob and Peter. I remember after a starter motor replacement a few years back the fella knocked off an air line going in to a valve (I forget the name of it but will look in the book the first chance I get) just in front and under, i think, of the starter motor. QuoteBob in Everett This problem has started in the past month. the coolant was a little low so I added to the full mark. About a week later, low again. Quotealanrw Rick, are you familiar with Device Manager? If you go in there, you will see all you devices listed. If there is a yellow exclamation point, usually that means there is a problem with the device.
