Are the pumps (the old style transfer pump in the tank and the new style high pressure pump on later models ) the same shape for direct bolt in? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Peter, would you seriously consider a good E30? Every once in a while, I will see a nice rust free E30 for sale here in SoCal. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Just wait for the scab to fall off, don't pull on it. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
This sure seems like uncharted territory for us here on this website. Perhaps a Tuner BMW performance site would serve his needs better? Simply put, E30's aren't Mustangs or Camaros. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
.....but what about the shoe? Is it a goner? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
The scary part as stated is this can actually be fatal. I am surprised the police are taking such a laid back approach. I would think the minimum here is to setup cameras. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Thanks for the input John. I think I can get new hoses made up here. I don't think BMW has anything left for the E30. I will have to do an internet search. Is it not the case that the only hoses are at the compressor and everything else is hard tube lines? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Is the expansion valve right by the acumulator which is right behind the passenger headlight? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Why do the hoses and o-rings have to be replaced? Are they a different material for R12 compared to R134? What is the methodology for finding a leak in an A/C system? Just a tool that is used to sniff around and locate the leak? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Got into my baby and hit the A/C button. No joy. Is it the case that the clutch will not engage if the freon charge is below a certain pressure? Not sure if I have an electrical, mechanical or freon leak issue. Diagnostic pointers? And isn't it the case, when the a/c is switched on the electric fan should fire? If indeed I am leaking freon, has anyone seen an overhaul kit for the Eby alanrw - Technical Forum
Bought my E30 in April 1984, still my daily driver. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Hmmm then what's causing the gummy residues? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Must be the gas blend in your area. I haven't had that problem in SoCal but we have a decidely different blend out here and no ethanol. Have you checked with other car guys in your area? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Hi guys, my 84 325E still has it's original batteries in the SI board, but I think they are begginng to go south. You would think BMW could come up with a battery that lasts longer than 28 years, but I digress...... Question, in all this excitement, I have forgotten, are the SI leds supposed to be on all the time when the car is running or just at crank? thanks alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, when you are ready, let me know, there are some very nice cars here in SoCal. No Rust!!!! alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Peter, you could get one and keep it for many, many years and then designate it as your casket. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Mazda has ECU technology that can tell what you put in the crankcase? Now I am impressed!!! alanby alanrw - Car Talk
My understanding is you need to use a good DVM, not one of the cheap ones. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Got a new O2 sensor for my new cat pipe I will be installing this weekend. The sensor came with raw wire ends so I need to splice it onto the existing plug. Does it matter if it is a crimp or solder connection? I seem to recall something about crimps being better in this situation. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Well, there are no codes on an 84. But I did find a test using a high quality DVM. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Should I replace the o2 sensor as part of this? How do you test an o2 on a pre obd II car? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
2 years ago, I replaced the original cat on my 1984 BMW 325E. Immediately after installation, the car underwent a smog test and HC and NOX were within limits. Last week, I was driving when a sound like an angry beehive began to eminate from under my car. I got home, got under the car, tapped on the cat with my fist and it sounds like marbles loose in there. The cat I installed 2 years ago hasby alanrw - Technical Forum
Not to be glib, but have you considered buying a California or Arizona car? Rust is non-existant on those cars and every once in a while you can find a car that is in excellent shape. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Took mine out yesterday. Heard what sounded like a bee hive under the car. Tapped on my new catalytic converter, sounds like marbles in there. Sigh.....I guess I have to call Pelican Parts and see what they want to do about that, the part is just over a year old. Any danger to the engine driving it until the cat is replaced? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
OK, 8mm = .314" 5/16"= .310" close enough!!!!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Hey, does anyone know what the diameter spec is for rubber fuel line for an E 30? It's metric isn't it? Or is it 5/16"? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Rick, did it come with a silk ascot? congrats, enjoy it. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Yeah, but who wants to go to the dealership and pay $200 to have the ECU recognize your new brake pads that you just installed yourself? Or even worse, not reset because you didn't buy the BMW pads with the embedded computer chip. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
With the technological maturation of the auto manufacturing industry, is there any advantage to buying a BMW today compared to many of the other brands offered up? alanby alanrw - Car Talk
Or the output of the alt. itself requires a liquid jacket around the unit? A buddy of mine has a shop. The other day, a guy with a 7 series BMW comes in with a dead battery. He replaces the battery and then takes it to the dealer for an ECU relearn procedure (standard deal when replacing a battery now). Crazy, or what? I really really hate how complicated cars are now. alanby alanrw - Car Talk
