LOL, at Yosemite Park, they have a demo explaining the danger of leaving food in your car as bears will break into you car. To illustrate the point, they have a car door from a Nissan that was peeled off the car by a bear. A car door to a bear is like a beer can to a human from a "resistance to distortion" point of view. Now that is some special s$@!!!!. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
As romantic as the notion of camping in a van/motorhome is, I can't help but wonder if it isn't more convenient to use a regular car and then check into a motel at night for a hot shower and a good night's sleep? At least you don't have to fool around with unloading the honey tank every night........ alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Update: about 2 years ago, I replaced my dash pad. After I got everything back together, I noticed that the Range function on my onboard computer was off after reassembly but everything else worked. Ever since cleaning the contact on the brake light, the Range function is back to spec!!! I guess I will have to make a note every Jan 1., polish the contacts on the brake light bulb and mount!!by alanrw - Technical Forum
As much as you want the correct part, in the short term, isn't it just a metric threaded piece that can be made up with some washers and a nut? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
So the cruise control on my 325E goes out. Remembering the right brake lamp bulb trick, I open the trunk, pull the passenger side light assembly. The brake lamp bulb and socket look darn good but I go ahead and pull out the 400 grit sand paper and polish the bulb and socket. Sure enough, the cruise control is back. What is the deal with that, the brake lamps were working fine but I guess a miby alanrw - Technical Forum
Had th!e exact same thing happen to me except the pedal detached from the cable inside the car. I shoved the cable back in and promptly went to the autoparts store to buy a clip. Imagine my surprise when I got home and went on OEMBmw and discovered that no clip was ever used!!! It is a friction fit!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Hands down, the best car in the snow is a VW bug with tire chains. You can climb up the side of a building with that setup. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Well, it was 78 here in Southern California today. I would love to stop in for cookies, but the airports are all shut down!!!! alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Safest thing is lens paper. I have seen a product that is premoistened specifically for lens and the stuff dries really fast and won't streak. It comes in individual wrapped packets. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
LOL, I have an envelope like that at work with all that. It is sealed and says " I guess I didn't make it" alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Man, I keep getting scared that I am gonna have a brain fart one day and it will take out that portion of my brain where all the passwords are stored. Kinda the dark side of the web, no? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Did I dream it or was the site down yesterday? alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Hmm, not that I can think of. I know other cars have wiring looms that will run to a firewall/bulkhead connector. Relatively simple to take out the old harness and replace with a new one. I think on our cars, the wiring runs directly to the fuse box or to various components. But it sure sounds like your issue is connectivity as according to your symptoms, it tends to go south when the weather getby alanrw - Technical Forum
Rick, any chance you can assess the condition of the plug sockets the relays themselves plug into? I wonder if you are having corrosion issues at that point? Salt air by the sea? alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Great, great, great!!! I became concerned when you were talking about getting rid of the IX. Glad it all worked out. Now, onward to the next failed relay!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum

If you are talking about the tracks, you need to remove the sunroof ( 3 torx bolts per side) and then just unscrew the track assembly. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
I would think the sandpaper would make it worse over time due to the abrasion factor. Ductaipaso, yes, use the spacer full size, no one will see it because it is clear. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Thin plastic shims cut to fit. Just shove em in. The top clear spacer of a new stack of cd's comes to mind. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum

The ground for the cruise control is on the passenger side of the tail light housing. Look for a brown wire. You said that there was corrosion around the tail lights, that could figure into the problem. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
The cruise control issue is probably the ground on the rear tail light. Yes, the ground for the cruise control is on the rear tail light. If the connector is corroded and exibits any resistance, no cruise control . The clunk at shift could be the transmission mount gone bad. From what you have described, much of this is know and can be handled without too much hassle. Passenger window couldby alanrw - Technical Forum
They got it, you need it, put up your hands and pull out your wallet. Or buy an E30....they are showing up in the pick a part in droves. alanby alanrw - Community Forum
Well, you could always document the repair with a camera and then write a letter with photos to the local paper outing them. Don't get even, get ahead. alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
Oh, well in that case, it isn't an expense, it is an investment!!! alanby alanrw - Technical Forum
