QuoteFerdinand Here's a photo for ya. I'm thinking that the lock mechanism mounting holes will be behind the liner inside. That panel is difficult to remove or I would just take a picture and post it too.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum

The annual gathering of E-30 cars and owners is only 4 weeks away on June 26. Last year it was a blast. Even Satch Carlson, editor of Roundel magazine was there. It will be at the Marymount facility, 325 152nd Street East, Tacoma, Wa 98445. Lots of room to park your entry if it is an E-30. Lots of room to park if you just want to see a bunch of E-30 cars in one place. Discounts on museumby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
I do not know of any where that kind of detail might be. Best option might be to "borrow" a similar car from a friend or junkyard and just measure and photo the area you need details about.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
I almost started a project to build a Locost 7 from a 1985 318. Bought the distressed car for a few hundred to get the drive train and was planning to use the rear subframe for the rear of the project. A few months went by and the shop I was going to use at a friend's place never materialized so I realized that even if I completed the Locost I would not have a place to drive it without spby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum

Yes, I used the screw driver as a pry bar trick on the 740 on Saturday. There too the pads were pretty thick and had trouble getting them into the caliper. Once in there, not much trouble getting on the disk though. Should be done with the brakes for a few months.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
Yes, I used the block of wood and c-clamp method. Same as I usually do. Was tempted to sand off some but did not have a belt sander. Decided to just put one new part on each side until I have to put the winter tires on again. Then I can probably put the other new pad in place of the old one.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
When I bought my E30 about 7 years ago its belt had not been changed in about 80,000 miles. I changed it the first week I had the car and it was a good thing. The belt was loose and almost ready to skip a tooth. Ready for another belt soon. Probably this summer. I did not change it at the last water pump change so it will be right at 40,000 miles. It is not as much fun as it was the first coupby Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum

similar problem with the grass but here in the Northwest it is moss that is the bane of spring. Actually had to mow the first time in February as the winter was pretty mild. Ready for the third cutting now. Escaped for today as the F-1 was on Tivo and if I did not watch it, someone would have tipped me about the winner at work tomorrow. Maybe it will rain most of the week so I can mow next Sby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Interesting to see if that works. I had one get sticky in a Buick V-6 a few years ago and it caused the engine to backfire to the point it was not driveable. I changed all the lifters and went several more years. When I bought the car the former owner had not changed the oil in about 12,000 miles. I changed it a couple of times in quick succession but I guess the damage was done. It soonby Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk

I agree that it can happen. Probably some fuel went through before the ignition got it running and set it off. I have had similar explosions but just not enough to damage the muffler.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk

Might be mud they put on it to camouflage it. With as little water as there is in Libya, probably not rust.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
There is likely to be some secondary reinforcement once you start working on it. I always liked the looks of those little trucks. I used to think my El Camino handled fairly well until I started driving a BMW. The El Camino has been neglected for a while now and it has suffered for it. I really need to do some work on it.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Fantastic "milestone" for the E-30. I am at 205,000 today with my cabrio. It is a good thing that BMW built them so well as to get a great reputation for sturdy, reliable, and fun cars. From what I read in Roundel the new cars are a bit expensive to keep running. I have a 2001 740 and some dumb stuff has failed like the rear door window regulator. I have had a thermostat fail like that. It was pretty annoying too as it happened in January. The gas mileage went south too. The thermostat failed structurally on the bridge that supports the thermal pill. It consequently would not close completely. I was never able to find another that went to the 85C temp and my mileage has not been the same since.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Technical Forum
That is something I will have to try. there are other buried secrets on these cars and some of them are useful.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Hard to believe but have owned this car for 6 years and had not discovered that the lever controlling the seat back tilt also controls a height adjustment. D'oh, now I can get comfortable on either side of the car and also make my garage queen car match the DD. Thanks guys. Always something to learn. Probably could have learned this in the owners manual but have not looked in there fby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
I know there is a "tilt" lever that lets the front of the seat move up and down and the tilt of the seat back is adjustable, but the back of the seat bottom is what I want to raise about an inch. In one of my cars the seat height is just right and the other is about an inch lower. The seats look alike.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum
Peter, For one thing, I do not have to write as much since I have become more proficient and have already learned most of the ordinary repairs. I really like my E30 and got to drive over 100 miles today while being paid to do it. Even a few more after work just because I could. Was driving in a rainstorm Monday and my front roundel came apart. The blue and white part is gone and just the basby Bob in Lake Havasu - Community Forum

Since the filter is there, a lot of things that might be in the bottom of the pan could be in the filter. I find my oil is also clean and the pan also when I took that off too.by Bob in Lake Havasu - Car Talk
