As long as there's greasy stuff in the engine and you do not over stress it, you won't get much damage. Of course, the cleaner the oil, the longer the engine should last but you better drive with bad oil than no oil.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
QuoteJose Pinto Old airplane engines were lubricated with total loss, meaning the oil was used once and burned or spit to the air...That was nasty. That's why the pilots wore scarfs, to clean their goggles as they were oiled as wel.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
The E46 320d with 212.000 km on the clock is greased with BMW approved LongLife oil, 30.000 km intervals, hardly any oil consumption. 0W30 runs like water but doesn't seem to get into the cylinders or to get passed the turbo bearing. I do run longer distances (usually 112 km single drive). Oil filter is changed every interval. The E30 318iS I serviced when the indicator told me to (asby Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Here's a similar procedure, your DVM needs to be high impedance.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
It should be switching from low level (+/- 0.2 V) to high level (+/- 0.8 V) about once a second. On a slow meter you would see a reading of about 0.45 V. If low level isn't low enough, or if high level not high enough or if the switching takes longer, the sensor's on its way out. If the level remains either high or low (no switching), the engine is running lean or rich.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
Quotebam_loves_his_bmw_325i Racing stripe? Trick of the light? Or maybe that's where that extra 50 hp is coming from.... I meant the tape over the middle of the right rear light.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Being used to euro spec E30's, I didn't even notice the lack of side markers. Bam, you're living in Maine? Looks like a nice area!by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
I think they used the front bumper to make that fart can. And what's that racing stripe on the right rear light? How much extra hp does that bring?by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
That's what I wanted to suggest, check with a Volt meter, it should switch output level around lambda 1 (so if your car is running correctly, it should be switching constantly). If it is not switching, either the car is off or the sensor is shot.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
Check for the usual areas, wheel arches, jack positioning point, license plate area, moon roof, battery tray, trunk side pockets. Others might give some more hints.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
You'd need to make sure it is just surface rust, and not rot. You'll need to have a pretty close look at the car at all the known spots. Depends on what you want, a show car or a hobby car, if $3000 makes the difference between a rust free car and a rusty car, you either need to bargain on the rusty one or go for the rust free one.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
Have a good drive! Taking the ferry or are you driving all the way?by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Special island, special car, Belgian driver. Don't like the man's attitude, but hell he can drive a car!by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
They're there as they enlarge your field of view, but they distort your ability to judge distances. My E46 has flat inner parts (4/5th) and the outer part is convex. I doubt mirrors will be replaced by camera's soon on lower end vehicles, as is represents a considerable on-cost compared with regular mirrors. You'd need a camera and a screen for each mirror you'd need toby Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Every place in the world has its own specialties and charm but somehow the grass always looks greener elsewhere. There's millions of places in the world I'd like to live. That's a bit of a problem for me when travelling, I'd like to have seen it all, every little corner, curious of what could be hidden there.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
There's no differential, that makes them easier to slide. Last year I took part in a cart race on slicks, in the rain. Very hard to keep the cart on the track but oh so much fun, even though the setting sun was obstructing sight.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
I had seen videos of this challenge before, just watched this one and what did I see? One of the opening images was taken about a mile from where I grew up! (where the willow trees are on the inside of a left hand corner) How cool is that? The world is small Rick! 325i Challenge TAC Rally -> this entire vid is where taken in the surroundings where I grew up, those roads I learned to driby Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
That's cheap! When mine was my daily driver (no classic car insurance), I paid about € 500 yearly. My E46 is at € 550 if I'm not mistaking.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
He's got an eta, with i in injectors in there. Should turn out OK after a while, as long as the O2 sensor works fine.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
Congrats! Looks like you'll get the opportunity to get to know the vehicle in cleaning it up a bit, I'm sure it is mechanically sound (you bought it after all). Price seems pretty fair to me. What engine is it?by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Daniel drives (used to drive?) a E39 530i. Haven't seem him around much lately but he's active on Facebook.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
I must have joined around the same time, when I was looking to buy my first car, the 325iX Touring. Now I'm at my 4th BMW, first non-E30.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Welcome back! Most of us are still around, Peter is still posting like a madman, though he's sold his E30. Ove might wander around here, we can't really check it because he hasn't shown activity on the forum for years. Gus(tavo?) has gone too.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
They are great, just as the stories. If only they wouldn't make me lose so much time...by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
The E30's had a bit of memory loss when disconnecting the battery, which should be relearned after a bit of driving.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
I've said just the same about this one, if I like it (still need to get a chance to drive it) I might want one, in 7 years or so. I'll wear the E46 down to its last bolt first! It has near 200.000 km now and I'd like to at least double that. In my current job that will take me 4 more years.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
