Have you replaced the thermostat at some point? If yes, are you sure it is in the right way (in case it has a hole, is it on top)?by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Do you think so? My VW Transporter was one air trap. I had to park it on a ramp nose up to get the air bled.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk

Quickly googled, you might have seen this earlier, could be it's no use for you either... Air lock at thermostat: How to read true coolant temp:by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Gusty winds and lots of rain here today. I just looked up your postal code and noticed the south side shoreline to be so straight. Is that a natural coincidence or has humanity a hand in this?by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Just keep in mind you will be reading surface temp, not inside water temp. Depends on the size and shape and material itself what the surface temperature will be. My 2003 E46 still has a true temp gauge, I can see it go up and down depending on load, weather, cooling etc...by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Happy festivities to all of you! It's been rainy here for days; soils saturated, floods here and there, 14°C, we're far from a white christmas...by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum

OK... Two minutes on Facebook (of which one minute replying to other shit) made me come up with this: Joost Buntinx (the 318iS owner) and his friend Johan Wauters, aka trobbelke. Sounds like reunion time!by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Hah... What's his name again... He was a friend of Joost, if I'm right... Johan...? Let me search for a minute. About the beers: hell yeah, we have the best in the world! Actually, going abroad isn't fun, as the beer over there isn't that good. The Kasteelbier you mention isn't bad (especially on cold days), but a bit to sweet for me. I like it bitter. 27.50 to have two tyres balanced? If I could get that much money, I'd get me a 2nd hand balancing machine and do it after hours. What have they balanced it with? Some silver alloy? Are you guys still using lead for balancing weights or have environmental reasons forced you to switch to something else (zinc on this side of the pond)?by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
I still check in every day. The E30 is doing very well, been standing under a cover forever, hasn't seen daylight in months and hasn't moved for over a year. Tyres still have pressure (and probably a flat spot from standing). Need to have a look at the fuel leak under the intake manifold and get the rear brakes to allow the wheels to rotate.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
That's a good one. Had about the same issue with the dash illumination, turned out the rear ashtray light wiring was touching ground somewhere below the central console.by Michiel 318iS - Technical Forum
Glad to hear from you! Have the house, the BMW's and the boat survived?by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Pfffff... Looks like Sandy struck hard at Long Island, just seen a couple of pictures. Hope Rick and his family are OK and his house is still standing.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
I guess Rick won't log in for some time, as far as I know he was closest to the heart of the storm. Power and utilities will be down for some time, I fear. Hope all the others are alright as well. Thumbs up! Hoping the damages are not that bad.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Did you spray it with the wheel laying down? Usually spray cans are made to be used upright, otherwise you might run out of gas before you run out of paint.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
I wish budget discussions ended up the same way here. Or at least the animation around the discussions.by Michiel 318iS - Community Forum
Nowadays most temperature gauges work this way, if the car has any at all. I really hate that. As long as the needle sits outside the cold and the hot zone, there's nothing to worry about, it is very natural to have a fluctuating temperature, depending on load, vehicle speed, ambient temp,... The electrically controlled thermostats on the other hand are clever. Keep temp high at lowerby Michiel 318iS - Car Talk

Don't agree. In everyday traffic, the high torque at low rpm makes the diesel more pleasant to drive, if you want a (turbo) petrol engine with the same feeling your fuel consumption will go north. As much as I like petrols, I'd prefer a diesel for the daily stuff.by Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
Are you sure water is being pumped around? Might be it is clogged somewhere. What height is your water pump located relative to the engine block/head? Usually there should be water to be found 'above' the pump level, I'd be surprised your had run out of water that much. If ever your engine was filled with anything else than good coolant, it might have got clogged. Last weekeby Michiel 318iS - Car Talk
