Awesome! Have a great time, and I hope nothing important falls off the car. Anything else that falls off is just weight savings, right?by Cab Treadway - Community Forum
That seems consistent. I've heard that most lenses aren't at their best wide open and need to be stopped down a bit. So you need something like a f/1.4 to be able to get good shots at f/2. My f/1.8 lenses are okay wide open, but probably better up at f/2.8 or so.by Cab Treadway - Community Forum

I just happened to look on Ove's facebook page, and he is listed as "engaged!" I don't know when this event occurred, but just thought some of his old E30 buds would be interested to hear this.by Cab Treadway - Community Forum
QuoteDave_G Are there even any 4-passenger cars currently made that are under 3000 pounds? Yes, but not that compare to the E30, IMO. They're all FWD econoboxes. The Mazda3, Corolla, Civic (and Fit), Rabbit/Golf all are <3000 or just barely over it. Weight was one of the key factors when I chose my Mazda3 over an Impreza when I bought my car 3 years ago. Awesome! I really like a lot of those shots, especially the candid ones taken while cruising the paddock. You really captured how much fun (and hard work) those guys were having. And those mini-bikes are fantastic!by Cab Treadway - Community Forum
QuoteArcheo-peteriX First is when you are going on that skiing trip and you get to those step hills where other cars have stopped and can't get going; the AWD(at least the iX) will allow you to not only get safely started but give you the sure footedness to drive around the other immobile and/or sliding vehicles. QuoteEarendil What's the difference between the 'ix' and 'xi', besides that one is the newer badge? The E30 iX is a pure mechanical system (not sure if there is also LSD in front or rear or both) that splits torque 32/68 (or 38/62, I don't remember) F/R. Quotedaniel something tells me that a new 328xi would handle much, much better than an e30 325ix, regardless of how the AWD system is controlled. Not necessarily. The E30 iX uses, as Archie said, a pure mechanical system for apportioning torque. xDrive is totally different, and while it is advanced, it's not necessarily better all the time. Plus, the electronic controls are more proneby Cab Treadway - Community Forum
Quotedaniel obviously the xi setups are better than the ix setup, as well. Like Tyler said, don't be so free throwing around that "obviously." The newer versions are more technologically advanced, true, but that doesn't necessarily mean better. I'll get back to you in more detail tomorrow. Short answer: for winter driving, my ideal setup is snow tires with RWD and LSD. That gives you independent control over both ends of the car. In my experience, the AWD, at least the E46 version, gives you some advantage in some situations, but the combination of DSC and open differentials takes a lot of the control away from the driver, andby Cab Treadway - Community Forum
QuoteEarendil So Cab, when you say the E46 isn't the same to drive as the E30, is it a handling thing? Do you think the E46 handles better or worse than the E30? Perhaps it's nicer so you don't treat is as harshly around those corners as the old timer bimmer? I disagree on the E46 assessment. I think they're very nice cars, and from most reviews I've read over the last decade or so, they are all around better built and designed than the E36. As far as ours goes, we love it. I would very much prefer a 330iT (not brought to USA) or a 325iT (which we couldn't find when we needed to buy a car) over our 325XiT, but it is a great car and hby Cab Treadway - Community Forum

Yes, like Daniel said, there are different AF modes. I usually use AF-A, although that's probably not the best mode. There is also a setting where I can tell the camera to hold focus and exposure settings when I half-press the shutter, or different ways to use the AE-L/AF-L button, which locks the focus and exposure. I haven't played around too much with that as of yet. I was justby Cab Treadway - Community Forum
Fun! I can't really offer any criticism (constructive or otherwise), but I will say that from what I've read, most lenses tend to not be their sharpest wide open. So having a f/1.4 lens means that you should get really sharp shots by, oh, f/2 or so. When I'm trying to get shallow DoF with one of my f/1.8 lenses, I try to stay above f/2.2 or thereabouts, although I'll shootby Cab Treadway - Community Forum

I check out used inventory on B&H and Adorama from time to time. I'm a little leery of buying used, but those vendors warranty used stuff, so I guess it would be worth it. The problem is, usually the price delta between new and "good quality" used isn't all that much, and for the extra $100 or so, I'd rather have the peace of mind of buying new.by Cab Treadway - Community Forum

Oh yeah... forgot about that one. It's also on my list to check out. Since I've never actually used any of these, it's hard to keep them all straight. I decided to shoot RAW because memory is so cheap these days. We have a 30 MB/s 4 GB card in the camera, which is good for about 270 RAW images. I usually do a hard drive dump when there are about 100-150 pictures. Any more than that and it becomes unmanageable, at least for me while working, in school, and chasing a toddler. Yes, f/1.4 is 2/3 of a stop faster than 1.8, so you can shoot in lower light. From what I understand, Sigma lenses can be very good or very bad, sometimes you have to return them once or twice to get a good copy. The price of this Nikkor combined with the focal length sold it for me. So far we're quite happy with it.by Cab Treadway - Community Forum
Well, not totally non-car-related... you can see part of a car in two of the shots. Just received (finally) the new 35mm lens I ordered six weeks ago. Most residences where there is regularly ten feet of snow have very steeply pitched roofs because that much weight is much better off on the ground than on the structure.
