QuoteDave_G Unstudded tires obviously slide more, and speeds are slower, but it's all still fun. Are your Sumitomos actual snow tires, or all seasons? If they're snow tires, you could still have fun. All-seasons, on the other hand, would have trouble even getting going on ice. They're all seasons. I decided to try them out as summer tires, and they're great but when it cby rkj - Community Forum
QuoteDave_G Quoterkj When the next race, and are you saying race my car? I could do that if it doesn't cost too much Absolutely! Most of the cars there are daily drivers. The date of the next event depends entirely on the condition of the ice. We try to have them every weekend, conditions permitting, but this latest big thaw really set us back. QuoteFerdinand $100 for a complete cylinder head is a heck of a good deal. It would almost certainly cost much more than that to buy new valves, potentially new valve guides, and have the valve seats machined, etc. Yes, that's an extremely good deal. Feel the hoses going in and out of the heater (through the firewall), at least you'll be able to tell what is going into the heater core but it could still be the valve by the core or the switch (its electrical you know)- happy huntingby rkj - Technical Forum
You'll know better what is needed once the heads off, very often the guides crack and take the head with it, and if the pistons are broken through....well...that means you're going deeper. How did it (timing belt) let go; at idle or at road speeds? Rickby rkj - Technical Forum

QuoteArcheo-peteriX Quotealanrw The goofy thing is, once the car is started, is it not running off the alternator? Kinda crazy, no? alan The car should never be running off the alternator. All electrical and electronics run off the battery. Actually, you should have three to cover everything but for you kelly, figure out what you want it for and buy one that will service your needs now. Later, if you need another for a different end of the scale buy another. The clicking kind are the best if they are treated nicely. This is one tool you don't want to drop or treat roughly. QuoteArcheo-peteriX Quotealanrw If you get voltage from the beefy terminals in the engine bay (for a trunk battery car), is there a test point to check on the fusible link? alan Unfortunately not...voltage can read good on both sides but id it's corroded, it won't carry current. I suppose you could look at the voltage while trying to start and it should drop drastically but youby rkj - Technical Forum
Hey Dave, I just did this on mine (1988 325is) when I put my new driveshaft in there. My last converter came from BAV for my 325es and fit very well, that was a good 10 years ago, the one I just got for the newer car fit awful and had to be bent into shape. The rear section was also a bad fit; especially where they join in the middle, the flare shaped center end were too large for the one sealingby rkj - Technical Forum

QuoteArcheo-peteriX Went out to take the iX to the library and the battery was dead; well dead enough that the starter doesn't have enough juice to crank the engine over :X I'm a little bit peeved because this was a new battery last spring. Quotewodcutr Dave - the idea here is to not give the motor an opportunity to knock. If your motor starts knocking then there is damage being done. Most people have their music turned up loud and would be totally oblivious as to whether or not the motor is knocking. I will admit that the higher the temp outside the greater the probability for knocking so winter is not totally necessarily premiuby rkj - Technical Forum
QuoteBob in Everett If you have and out of balance tire or bent wheel, at some speed the slight force generated by the rotating mass being off center. At some speed it will match the natural frequency of the spring/mass system that is the car and suspension system. You can demonstrate this by using a rubber band and hanging a weight on it.
