Bob, no it should not be a dealer only part, any auto parts store, like autozone should have them, just ask for an electronic one. They are more than the standard ones, but not hellishly expensive.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
yes, my central locking is also inop, but not just the drivers door, the whole shebang, I know there is the problem with the contact on the pc board of the central locking control unit, when the locks and motors get full of crud and gunk with time, the motors have to pull a lot of amps to lock the doors, this high current draw obviously causes heat and unsolders one or other contact on the controby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Bob, mine played up with similar symptoms a year or two ago, in my case I dropped the lower steering column cover and replaced the flasher unit and it was good after that. But it has to be the electronic flasher unit, not the el cheapo ones that work off load.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Bob, yes, by turning the drivers door key to the double lock position, it also immobilises the car, a built in immobiliser, if you will. In fact the control unit, for it, (in my car anyhow) sits in the boot, right against the panel where the rear seat is, there is a second fuel tank behind a steel plate, and the control unit unit is hidden behind another smaller steel cover. These sometimesby Flyboy - Technical Forum
OK, SO I AM AN IDIOT..............LAMBASTE AND SCORN AT WILL We all know the story of how the drivers door lock wears out, and the little ball bearing in the tumbler wears a groove and when you lock the door with the key, it does not engage the lock. Well mine has been like this for a long time now, and has been on my "I will get to it" list, you know how that works out. So I haveby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Ok, so the dash is out and the contact side of the ignition switch is off, I want to test the ignition switch. There are a load of wires soldered onto the switch, any ideas as to which ones I need to bridge to bypass the switch and energise the starter, there is a thick red wire, I assume power in and a thick green wire, these two wires are thicker than the rest, obviously for load carrying, itby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Yeah, mine is not the BMW one, my car has no OBC, mine is an after market one, where you have a little fob with three contact points and pring it into contact with the three contact points on the unit fitted to the car. Had to get it for insurance.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Al, I do have a basic immobiliser, I will by pass it tonight and see what happens.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
QuoteWhen I have the hot start problem, I stop after about 6 seconds and press the accelerator all the way to the floor and crank for about 10 seconds or so and if it starts to catch, keep the starter on and pedal down until it starts but never more than about 15 seconds. Once it starts you need to be ready to get off the throttle as it will accelerate very fast. If it does not start in about 15by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Bob Yes, I suspect that I may have a faulty ignition switch, or contact on it. I have this little nagging thing in the back of my mind that a connection/contact/solder joint was damaged/overheated somewhere. As I said, with the hard starting problem, when hot, there are imes when I had to crank for extended periods to get the car to start, and pulling that many amps on the starter for an eby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi Guys Can anyone shed some light on a problem with my 318i that raised its ugly head this morning. Got in to start the car this morning, as soon as I turned the ignition on, the hooter started blaring, tried fiddling with the hooter buttons in case one was stuck, no joy, hooter still goes off as soon as I turn the ignition on. I got under the front bumper and just pulled a wire off each hoby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Please all the members on the Eastern seaboard, get out of harms way and batten down the hatches, looks like Sandy is going to be real ugly. Rick, I know you are out that way, please keep safe, and all the others in her path. Praying for minimal damage and no loss of life. Please let us know you are still ok.by Flyboy - Community Forum
Hi All Thought I would share this really cool video about a guy talking about his e30. It just says so well, what e30 owners already know, hope you enjoy it. http://vimeo.com/44666145by Flyboy - Community Forum
Al, the pump is indeed 12v, so he should be getting 12v at the pump wires under the back seat, you don't even want to know how I know that........... Bam, you need 12v there, any less and pump performance will be degraded and you are not going to get the required pressure, no matter what pump you put in the hole. Try putting 9v to your starter motor and see how well it spins the engine oby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Yep, the mesh bag on the end is to keep any gunk out of the pump, mine has it as well, sounds like the right pump. I am still inclined to have a niggling feeling about the low voltage, I really think tracing and rectifying that problem first is of more importance, once that is sorted, install away to your hearts content.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Bob you are right of course, before spending coin, you would want to check the part numbers, or at least take the old one with as a sample to check the fitting and length. Rick,.I reckon the pressure would not be too much of a problem, they all run around the 3 bar mark, give or take half a bar, therefore it would be logical that the pump would supply more pressure than that and the final injectby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Al. it looks like they may just be the same, I doubt BMW would re-invent the wheel. Looking at this diagram for the '84 325 with two pumps, the tank and the "pre supply" pump as they call it, look identical to the pump in my '91 318i that only has the one pump.by Flyboy - Technical Forum
Bob is right, it would involve more than simply removing the transfer pump. The way I would approach the task is to replace the in tank pump with the high pressure pump from one of the later models that only had the one pump, the high pressure pump in the tank. Thus doing away with the transfer pump and moving the high pressure pump into the tank. This would be the simpliest way to do it, of cby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi All Here is a Bosch Injector application chart, just sayin' Bosch Injector Application Chartby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi All. It seems a lot of posts are about lumpy/erratic idle and mixture problems, I see this coming up time and again. I have had my fair share of head scratching, you will remember the saga with my little 318i after the valve train overhaul. On the way to e30 happiness I have had to go through a lot of experiments. Now I guess most of the senior members here will know most of this stuff, tby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Quotealanrw Art, i am only making an assumption here. I believe the test is with a DVM (digital volt meter) set to Ohms. Pull off the connector, place the 2 meter probes on the 2 terminals and measure the Ohms. When cold you have one value, when the engine is warm, you have a second value. Not sure what the cold-hot values are, perhaps someone can help out? alan Hi Al, the values are 3000 oby Flyboy - Technical Forum
Hi All Been a while, sorry, life has just been getting in the way, I trust you are all well. I just want please ask all the folks out there, especially on the eastern seaboard to take care and batten down the hatches and keep safe. Irene looks like she is going to do some damage and then a bit. Rick, you are out that way, are you not? Please take care and be safe. Will be back for roll callby Flyboy - Community Forum
What Jose says is true on this side of the pond to, there are few old beaters left in e30 clothes, most get scooped up quickly if they are offered up for sale, and an e36 can be had for less than an e30, they are quite desirable here, unfortunately also makes them more vulnerable to theft and hijacking, also means the parts vendors want to start charging stupid prices for spares. I need a new raby Flyboy - Community Forum
Congratulations, nice buy there Rick. I am officially green with envy, the engineering that goes into the new bikes is something to behold. And to think that we used to think a 500lb litre bike, putting out 100hp was a monster.by Flyboy - Community Forum
Just saw this today, I am without words, damn Pete that sucks really big time, I don't know what to say. We all know about the state of the world economy and all that blah blah blah, but that is little consolation or help to you right now. I honestly do hope and pray that something comes your way soon. Hi all. It has been a while, but unfortunatly life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes. Well I just want to check in, and let you all know that since my starting/goofy running episode on my little 318i, she has settled down perfectly and rus like a top. Idle is dead stable at 750rpm, from ice cold to running temp, pulls smoothly from 1000rpm all the way through without missing a beat.by Flyboy - Community Forum
Hi Art, also late, but I find exploded veiws from the parts fisch also help a lot when trying to figure out the order of things, or where the "spare" parts go. Here is one for the BMW's, just click your way through the index to your car and you will find every expolded diagram you could wish for. realoem.comby Flyboy - Technical Forum
