As far as paying for premium fuel I believe you should be putting that in anyway, especially in the summer and on a higher mileage engine. I think that for three extra dollars per fill up it is worth it...skip the coffee for a day and invest in something good for your car.
There is nothing inherently "good" about higher octane fuel. Higher octane fuel is neede

Not a bad looking car when it is clean! I have an 86 325es in white that I picked up from Cali. I like it a lot especially the front spoiler and M tek steering wheel. I put some weaves on it too from another is I have as a parts car. I thought it was kind of gutless until I chipped it and now that I put some Bilsteins on it I think it almost drives better than my 325is. Still not as quick, b

Well unless you've dyno'd your car I guess you don't know what your actual HP gain from a chip is, and I think it would be more fair to compare your car to a chipped 328iS, I would never do it because I don't want to pay for premium gasoline, or even gasoline additives to make it a higher octane. I wasn't trying to convince anyone that an E36 was better, but I

Kids! - 15 years ago
So my 19 yr old daughter comes to me yesterday and tells me she has had a little mishap with her E30. The story she told me was that she was in her apartment's parking garage and was in a hurry and did not turn properly into a parking stall and hit a cement column. She said that all she hit was the front plastic bumper that had scraped against the column, but now the cars steering wheel wa

QuotewodcutrI don't think my red E30 looks good with mud on it. It is a lot of work to keep a car clean and looking nice...why would you purposely thrash one?
A little dirt now and then won't hurt the car. My pressure washer took care of removing all the mud. Shovelling the mud out of the driveway though after the wash, that was a lot of work.

Aren't there 2 pumps, one in the tank and one external as previously mentioned? Is the one in the tank the transfer pump and the external pump the one that does the bulk of the work?
alan
It depends on the year of production. If you have an external pump then you have two pumps. Generally, the reason the external pump goes is because the one in the tank is not functioning

My guess is that it is the pump itself. It is the only thing that has the ability to buzz. The fuel line is just the conductor of the noise. Is the fuel line rubber or metal where the noise is coming from? If it is rubber I suggest replacing the old tired inflexible one with new. If it is the metal portion you may want to look and see if all the isolating hold down plastic is still intact.

Now, who's onboard?
Not me! I don't think my red E30 looks good with mud on it. It is a lot of work to keep a car clean and looking nice...why would you purposely thrash one? I guess if I had a few sponsors I might think about it. How about it Rick, you in for a few thousand to donate to

Kelly - I will check in the morning if I have a proper one to send. You should make sure that that is all you need. Check each piece thoroughly...there may be more damage than you think. I will PM you tomorrow.

Ya you're probably right. I wouldn't mind adding an X to my collection. I have actually looked for a nice one for some time, but they either have rust, high miles, or been in an accident. I must say I don't mind getting 25 mpg in the is though...apparently the x's suffer in that department.

No point the iX is vastly superior to the iS
Maybe in the snow and ice, but on dry pavement I think I would have the advantage. Your car is slightly heavier up front and I believe that with my 3.73 diff my top speed would be greater. Do you have a chip for the ix? This would be an interesting duel...I have the perfect l

Well, I just got my butt off the couch and pulled my Chilton's Toyota Manual. Wasn't I surprised when the front cover said 1998-2002! It has a 4 page description on swapping out the timing belt. I can scan the pages and email them to you. PM me if interested.
For openers, here is the pic I grabbed from the library data base.

On the old BEN there was a way of tracking how many people had read your specific post, not just the first one. It certainly isn't necessary, but I liked being able to see how many times that post had been read. Any one else notice this too?

Peter - thanks for the explanation. See what a person can learn by frequenting this forum. I have learned the difference between an argument and a discussion, and also that a gauntlet is a knights glove. B)

Ebay had a CD for sale, but it was not vehicle specific. They also had the factory manuals on CD but they were $115. I think I would just pay the mechanic to do it for that. I also looked for a Toyota forum and found one, but no real info on a timing belt change. I guess most van owners do not get into that kind of stuff.

Don't you find it somewhat cumbersome working on the E30 with gloves on?
I'll have to admit that one is way over my head but for the record I do have a heated shop...no need for gloves!

Sometimes justice needs to be handled on your own. Obviously the person that backed into your car did not care enough to admit it themselves, so confronting them would probably be futile. I would keep an eye out for the jeep perpetrator and at 3am throw a rock through the windshield. If you are unwilling to go to that extreme then maybe just chalk it up as another one of those things that real

Yes they do! We bought the wife's van brand new in 01 and it now has 160k on it. I think the timing belt needs done...spark plugs too! All we have ever really done to it is put brakes on it once and changed the transaxle fluid and regular oil changes. I did have to buy a new AC compressor last spring too. Other than the fact that we are on our fourth set of tires (the thing eats tires l

Does anybody know if I can purchase a decent repair manual for a 2001 Toyota Sienna? I need to do the timing belt, so I bought a Haynes and the detail is quite limited compared to the Bentley for our E30s. I know you can buy a three volume set of factory manuals, but they are more than I want to spend. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Andrew - To be "blown away" is obviously not a definable viewpoint based on an individuals personal biases. That being said to go head to head with another car that is supposed to be superior in every way to the one I am driving can be blown away if beaten by only a car length IMO. That was not the case with my so called race as I was at least five car lengths ahead when I reached 100

peter, and others,
I find that it helps to distinguish between an argument and a discussion. What is the difference between an arguement and a discussion? Peter, you know that I use the Socratic method for teaching, therefore I shan't give what my definitions are for discussion and arguement, until we have had some discussion on the subject, except to say that in my
