Try sticking a low amp battery charger on your battery with it still connected to the car. After eight hours of charging pop the hood open and feel the alternator. If it is warm then it needs replacing and that is where your draw is coming from. The alternator may still test good on all counts and be charging the system fine, but it is bad! Also, sometimes the car if it is usually driven for

If you put pressure via a jack under the ball joint it will cause the bolt to not be able to spin and allow the nut to come off. Also an impact wrench will help too as the nut can be spun much faster than the bolt.

Are you looking for a fixerupper or a garage queen? What is your budget? I am thinking about selling my toy for an e46 m3. I think an s54 would satisfy my hp needs very nicely!!
I will also have a 91 318i available FS in the near future, probably in the summer. That may be a bit too far out though!

I'd offer him $500 and see if he bites. To me it would be worth the gamble at that price as you could always get another motor for 3 or 4 hundred and slap it in if for some reason the head is cracked or the car has other issues. You could also part the car out and make at least three grand selling the parts on ebay. That may not be what you are looking for, but there sure are alot of guys

Glad to hear I can improvise a way around the special tool. I don't mind buying special tools if I have to, but if it's something I'll only need once a decade I'm all for improvising. Got a link for where I can find this M42 club? I'll do the usual google search, but a link would be nice. I'm going to look at the car tomorrow. The guy says the tim

You don't need to buy the special tools as you can improvise with two crescent wrenches and a vice grip for the cam and the flywheel can be held with the wheel alignment tool in your tool kit. You can read about the whole process on the M42 club. I would guess that you really won't know the full extent of the damage until you actually take the thing apart. My guess would be that the

After market rim manufacturers get a wider fitment of cars by making the center bore big enough to fit most makes. A hub centric spacer ring specific to your car is then purchased to ensure the fit. I believe if you go to tire rack you will be able to find the proper spacer and if you need to correct the offset too, they sell those as well.
IMO no E30 should have an out of balance ride, or w

You will need to get the proper size spacer for the E30. If you don't, you run the risk of the wheel being slightly off center even if the lug nuts are all in place, and the ride will be horrible. The only other thing I can think of that could be a problem for you would be the offset. Most wheels with the 4x100 lug pattern have a 35, and that will probably rub on your control arm. If the

Update - I spent most of the day out in the shop and took out the heater core and valve. Much to my surprise the valve seemed to be fully opened and water flowed through that pipe quite freely. The heater core was a different story. When I tried to flush it out the water did not go through it very well and even though it did have some flow it was not even close to the flow of the spare core I

What are you educated to do now?
B.A. in economics from lewis & clark college.
i'm not sure that means i'm actually educated to do anything specific, but i'd like to think i can apply what i've learned to something related to business/marketing.
I think you should start with congress...they need some advice about economics!

I have had an issue with my 86 325es for a couple of years now in that the heater output does not get hot even though the car if fully up to temp and the stat is functioning properly. It does get warm though, but not like my other cars. I think it is the mixing valve not opening all the way. Is there anything I can do other than replace the valve to fix this? Thanks!

Well, today was shoveling day and we did get a little more snow than I thought, 18-25 inches, which is rare around here and it looks like a white Christmas so far....cool. I've got drifts up to four feet or so and driving around today it looked so great; huge drifts, wind blown. I love this stuff!
I think its time for a four wheel device (atv?) to have fun on while the motorcycl

Yes, I've read Rich Dad Poor Dad and all the other books Robert Kiyosaki has written.
Up until recently and for the past 9 years, I was working for myself and truly enjoyed the autonomy. Alas, the work all went off short and what little remains is being forced on junior engineers along with a lot of other duties they never had to deal with before. It's the only wa

Ferd - getting beached sucks, but nothing like the roll over. I guess a good navigator is just as important as the driver. I am glad you have not been in a serious crash like the ones I saw the Finns do. I would like to attend a rally with my son like the one on the isle of Mann. Are there any like that one out here in the west? Maybe I need to look into building a rally car! B)

Sorry Ferd, no photos of the place yet! I think Santa is bringing me a new digital camera next week so I will see if I can take some and post them. I still have some decks to build on the exterior, but the only access to the site is by snowmobile now so that won't happen till spring.
By the way, I was curious if you have ever gotten in a serious accident while you have been rallying? I

Hi guys - I haven't been on here for a while as I have been very busy building a log home at 9,000 ft, but I am all finished now. My car has felt neglected as I rarely drove her due to the need to haul things in the truck, but now I can give her some lovin once again.

I once tried to put an airbag wheel (from a 91) in a non airbag car (an 89) and the splines were the same and would have worked except the steering column was too short in the 89 so the wheel would not have been able to have the nut all the way in place. I suppose you could put a non airbag wheel on too and it would work, you would just need a spacer to take up the slack!

The crank handle is a unit so to speak that is attached to a plastic piece that is screwed in place with two screws. There is a spring that puts pressure on the handle to keep it locked open or closed. If the handle is not staying in place then it is probably due to the metal fatiguing and not being able to handle the springs tension any more. New handle would fix that problem!

I thought all E36s had airbags so that wheel may very well fit the E30 or have been modified to fit the 36.

I know that there is a thermometer type device inside the control box that will turn the clutch on and off of the compressor. That is so the system doesn't freeze itself and stop working. It monitors the temp of the evaporator and if it gets to cold it shuts off the compressor until it gets warm enough to need to kick in again. That is why your compressor clicks on and off.

I don't know about the E30, but the AC can run in any temperature. In fact most vehicles use the AC system in defrost mode to dry out the air so it is not as humid ie less chance of fogging.

You guys don't seem to understand the problem with 10 feet of snow. The amount of energy it would take to keep the solar panels snow free would exceed the output of the panel. Green technology is only worth while if done under very favorable circumstances and those ideal parameters are not going to be found in the woods @ 9000 ft. I have built homes that use a solar panel for minimal elec

Building up as high as 9000 feet gives unique challenges. Solar panels are good when you have good exposure all day long. In the mountains that can be limited not only by mountains but by trees too. Also the temperature extremes can be huge at that elevation too. In the winter which lasts six months up there, you can expect to have ten feet of snow cover and temps down to 30 below. Solar wou

Well so far I have two bids each in excess of 100k for this type of system. A conventional propane forced air system for the same house would probably come in at 25k. Just finished having a nice dinner with the family. Personally, I am not much to celebrating most holidays and this one seems a bit useless as it doesn't really take a whole lot of effort to become a father. I guess the true accomplishment is when the next generation becomes self supporting and good contributing members of society, and most people attribute that to their mothers! Oh well
