The "Captcha" code is a Javascript based feature. I was not able to duplicate the problem, but if a browser doesn't understand Javascript then it wouldn't see it, and I'm guessing that's what the problem was.

I have changed the spambot filter to use a simple math question instead of the Captcha window. It should be viewable by any browser, and it's probably more effective anyway.
